米国を代表するドキュメンタリー作家のひとり、スティーヴ・ジェームズ監督(『フープ・ドリームス』『スティーヴィー』)による最新作。

「マンハッタン計画」に最年少の18歳でスカウトされた天才物理学者テッド・ホール。彼は国家機密をソ連へと流していた。

今回の予告編ではテッドの驚くべき人生の軌跡を辿ると同時に、冷戦へとつながる大国の思惑が浮かび上がるものになっている。キノコ雲を上げる長崎への原爆投下の記録映像や「わが国は革命的な破壊力向上を達成した」と語る当時のハリー・S・トルーマン米国大統領の映像から当時の社会状況が垣間見える。テッドは、「米国による原爆の独占は危険だ」と考え、ソ連との接触を決意。「思いやりかな」…のちにその動機を問われ、彼はそう答えている。

一方、中性子爆弾の開発者サミュエル・T・コーエンがテッドを「射殺すべきだ」と語るように彼の存在は米国ではタブーである。彼は「裁かれるべき」だったのか？18歳の行動が世界をどう変えたのか？大国の思惑と“個人の決断”が交錯する、知られざる真実が明らかになる。

戦後80年の今、知られざる事実を突きつける。
『原爆スパイ』は2025年8月1日より広島八丁座にて先行ロードショー、
8月2日より渋谷ユーロスペースにて公開、以後全国順次上映

This is a recording for archived purposes. The idea is to document Ted Hall’s activities in connection with his work on the atomic bomb. Ed Hall was a man with a remarkable mind. He was a senior at Harvard at the age of 18. A recruiter from Washington came up. His mission was to pick up a few very junior physicists to help in the research work at Los Alamos. Suddenly Ted went all serious and he said, “There’s something I have to tell you.” He was working on the implosion bomb. It was one of the major secrets of the war. We have now added a new and revolutionary increase in destruction. Something gruesome and horrible was being constructed. Knowled it should be shared. They had decided they wanted to get in touch with the Soviets. Ted had passed along the first information of this bomb that would blow up Nagasaki. This speeded up the Soviet development of the bomb by about 5 years. He did agree to continue. That was when the hunt resumed. The FBI started following us. The Rosenbergs were small fish compared to Ted Hall. The Wunder spy. It was very dangerous that the Americans had a monopoly of this weapon. Did you provide information to the Soviet Union? What should have been done with Ted Hall shut? The world has come extremely close to real actual total disaster. What made you do it? I guess a major factor would be compassion.
