「戦争中のサラエボにU2を呼びたい」一人のクレイジーなアイデアが不可能を現実に。
「過去を忘れて、未来にキスを、サラエボ万歳！」。U2が1997年9月23日、4万5千人を前にサラエボで行ったライブは、今も語り継がれている。
かつてサラエボの人々は民族・宗教に関係なく共存していたが、紛争は人々を引き裂いていた。このライブは、そんな人々を音楽の力で再び一つにするものだった。
本作は、U2がボスニア紛争終結後にサラエボでライブをする約束を果たすまでを追ったベン・アフレックとマット・デイモンがプロデュースしたドキュメンタリーだ。
銃弾が飛び交う危険なボスニア紛争中、若者たちは解放を求め夜な夜な地下で行われていたパンクロックライブに熱狂していた。そんな彼らにとって世界的アーティストで戦争や人権など社会的なメッセージを発信していたU2は憧れの存在だった。ある日、アメリカの援助活動家のビル・カーターはU2をサラエボに招くことを思いつく。U2はサラエボ行きを決意するが、安全面の観点から断念。であればと、ビルは衛星中継で戦火のサラエボからの様子をU2のZOOTVツアーに届けることに成功する。そして約束通り、戦後しばらくしてU2がボスニアで行った平和と民族の融和のためのライブは、人々に強烈な印象を残すことになる。世界各地で戦争が絶えない今、U2のメッセージは時代を超えて私たちの心を震わせる。

imagine a president of the United States taking the military he encircles New York City he terrorizes the population that’s what Milosovich did to Saro you can see on a hill a sniper shooting now the Yugoslav army supposed to protect you all of a sudden your protector becomes a monster journalists were purposefully targeted it was really made for trouble it was a very bright shining light svo and they needed to kill that light without electricity running water the urge for art amplified we had this wonderful scene having a disco in the middle of the war it’s the only thing that kept us going due to they represent the personification of our resistance i thought they were a force of good i went to Syria was trying to find my way into an aid organization i thought if I could get Bono talk to him about these people maybe we could have a conversation you there Bill yeah I hear you bono I want to say thanks to all you people we don’t feel alone [Music] poets writers filmmakers musicians can inspire people to find the strength and courage to resist somebody tells you “You got 5 minutes what would you do you do what you like the most somebody said courage is grace under pressure that’s a good definition of the people of Sieo the past kiss the future [Music]
