コッポラ監督 構想40年！デ・ニーロも20年前に本読みに参加／映画『メガロポリス』特別映像
『ゴッドファーザー』シリーズ/『地獄の黙示録』すでに話題騒然！構想40年！私財186億円を投じ、人生をかけた一大叙事詩を作り上げた！ロバート・デ・ニーロやスパイク・リーが本作について語る『メガロポリス』特別映像が解禁！
フランシス・フォード・コッポラ監督が構想から40年をかけて完成させた渾身の最新作『メガロポリス』。その唯一無二の映像世界に、映画人や文化人たちからの熱烈なコメントが寄せられた。
監督と親交のある映画監督・スパイク・ジョーンズからは、「面白くて、生き生きとしていて、エレクトロニックで、世界観とアイデアが鮮やかだった。」とコメント。さらに『パンズ・ラビリンス』などで知られるギレルモ・デル・トロ監督は、「フランシスは20代の頃と変わらず、大胆で大胆不敵、独創的な映画監督だ。私は『メガロポリス』に打ちのめされた！」とその衝撃を語っている。
さらに『オーシャンズ』シリーズで知られるスティーブン・ソダーバーグ監督は、「私がこれまで見た中で最も純粋で持続的なイマジネーションの表現だと感じた。」と、本作に込められた創作力の凄みを称えた。
そしてロバート・デ・ニーロやスパイク・リー、そしてフランシス・フォード・コッポラ監督自身が本作について語る、貴重な特別映像が解禁された。
ロバート・デ・ニーロは、実は2001年にブルックリンで行われた本作の本読みに参加していたことを明かす。当時、ポール・ニューマンやユマ・サーマンら豪華キャストが顔をそろえていたが、同年に発生したアメリカ同時多発テロの影響により、制作は中止を余儀なくされたという。
またスパイク・リーは、「この映画をぜひ劇場で体感してほしい。家のワイドテレビとIMAXでの体験は比べものにならない」とコメント。本作が持つ圧倒的な映像美とスケール感は、劇場でこそ真価を発揮することを力強く語っている。そしてフランシス・フォード・コッポラ監督は「常に向上心を持った制作陣と素晴らしい役者たちと一緒に少しずつこの映画を完成させた。未来に対する議論が必要で、世界中の人に参加してもらいたい。これが映画を通じて伝えたいことだ」と語り、本作に込めた強い想いを明かしている。
数十年の情熱と創造力が結実した、映画史に残るであろう『メガロポリス』。その世界観とメッセージは、まさに“今”を生きる私たちに問いを投げかける。

i’ve been very lucky to to work with Francis Godfather too so I remember Francis uh I was aware of it at least 30 maybe 35 years ago maybe even longer he was always talking about it and then I I went to uh we had a reading somewhere in a studio in Brooklyn not a studio but a a loft studio type thing um with Paul Newman and Uma Thurman and forgetting who else but so he’s He was working on it for a long time i forget then how it changed from what I just saw today excuse me um but it it you know obviously it was something that Francis had been wanting to do working on for a long time in his head blah blah blah you know I hope they feel the experience of movie going because so many people I’m not [Music] watching movies on this look all right I’m old but there’s nothing replaces your wide screen TV in the basement ain’t replace seeing this film in IMAX this guy right here that’s my guy right there france for a cop francis I was at the first screening not not a the first regular screener of Apocalypse Now in LA i was doing an internship Columbia Pictures 12:00 noon the sin curorama dome 12:00 noon Apocalypse Now that was I mean them helicopters i’m like where the where the helic going like helicopters flying overhead with the the sound design it was amazing i’m back in New York where I was originally from and it’s in the it’s in a big show place in New York at an IMAX theater so it’s a thrill when you make a movie that’s unusual and has never quite been made before you tend to the movie tends to make itself and it makes itself through the collaborators through the actors all of you are asking well let’s do more of that no let’s do more of that and little by little it makes itself he says “We need a debate about the future and we want everyone in the world take part of that debate.” And that’s what this film is saying and that’s what it’s trying to do i was working on really just understanding what kind of style I might have and before I came to the idea to want to do an a Roman epic with America as modernday Rome [Music] we made it up enjoy the show time stop we’re in need of a great debate about the future but is there time go
