  1. What about avast, 7zip, malwarebytes,virustotal?
I was desperate to try remove my weird virus/malware. Idk if i have downloaded the legit version or not. Anyways i have deleted both AV. But i got a feeling that avast(or whatever that was, planted itself in boot?

I clicked on the first result…am i screwed?

  2. Google should abandon the url hijacking practice in favor of security. Other major search engines don't practice this.

  3. This is EXTREMELY common in non english speaking countries where mallicious actors make websites for software in that language, with e.g. a .es .at .nl .de etc. that then get shown before the actual real websites in the search results in those countries where they then distribute malware through that

  4. RuneScape has had this problem for the last decade with fake download links for an open source client being in sponsored listings. I don’t believe the Google dev saying they’re going to fix this. They won’t.

  5. This is a Google problem but also we need to get away from having people pasting curls to scripts to install things. Just a terrible security practice

  6. I'm glad I always scroll further down and skip the ads. But my parents don't and it felt like watching someone pickup dog shit without a glove.

  7. I had no idea what “home brew” was and I thought it was a program helping you home brew malware 😅😂

  8. John, PLEASE raise the threshold on the compressor for your voice! I love your channel, but it's extremely sensory intense to listen to and basically feels like being yelled at. This combined with your talking speed and very few pauses, literally makes it hard for me to finish a video in a single sitting. Sincerely, a neurodivergent sound designer.

  9. 18:25 Bro, don't connect to that via your browser.
The server can filter by the User-Agent. Just use curl (if you really want it downloaded) or better yet, only connect via telnet and close the connection.

  10. And if you look up “best anti-malware for MacOS” the top recommendation is COMMON SENSE” … SMH.. accidents happen! And clearly this isn’t your typical big green button “click to go to your download!”

  11. The last time I was scammed was through an ad link. Luckily that was sorted out and it was just a dispute with my card. But damn, getting a rat or worse from an ad link is a new level lol

  12. well f….. i downloaded that in the last few weeks and ive been really tired lately. i would have checked if it showed the right site but not afterwards…… ironically afterwards i installed a pi-hole alternative that would have prevented this….. not sure what to do now…

  13. they have to pay for the malvertising somehow, why can't law enforcement track down the criminals through the payment network? it's not like google accepts crypto for payments

edit: i guess they can just use stolen credit cards though

  14. Thank goodness, I was freaking out for a second, because I just did it the day before you made this video. Thanks for checking the terminal command I was about to wipe my computer.

  15. 17:00 the first one of those was a crypto wallet, so it's probably the same for most of them. there might also be some password managers in that list, but I haven't checked
