The term &#8220;7-star hotel&#8221; is said to have been coined by a British journalist who toured the hotel before its official opening. The journalist described the Burj Al Arab as &#8220;the best thing he&#8217;d ever seen&#8221; and called it a 7-star hotel. A Jumeirah Group spokesperson stated, &#8220;There&#8217;s not much we can do to stop this. We don&#8217;t encourage the use of the term, and we&#8217;ve never used it in our advertising.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; The hotel is built on an artificial island 280 meters (920 feet) off Jumeirah Beach and is connected to the mainland by a dedicated curved bridge.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Construction of the island began in 1994, and at its peak, up to 2,000 construction workers were involved.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; The hotel&#8217;s exterior is designed to resemble the sails of a dhow.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; There is a helipad 210 meters (689 feet) above ground level.
