Customers in the United States will be able to choose from five different 5-series variants, all of which will feature automatic gearboxes. The 530i will be the least costly, with a 255-hp 2.0-liter turbo four and the option of all-wheel drive. The six-cylinder 540i xDrive is at the top of the gas-powered lineup, producing 375 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque. The i5 e-Drive40 is the entry-level E V, with a rear-drive layout with a rear motor producing 335 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque (a Sport Boost feature increases torque to 317 pound-feet).<\/p>\n<p>The BMW i5 M60 xDrive is a two-motor, 590-hp electric variant that replaces the previous-generation V-8-powered M550i. It has a starting price of $67,795, which is more than the $55,000 level for Inflation Reduction Act tax credits. An optional M Sport package includes blacked-out metal trim, new wheels, a more aggressive front and rear end, and a retuned suspension. Prices begin at $85,095. Other notable figures include a reported 3.7-second speed to 60 mph and an estimated curb weight of 5,300 pounds.<\/p>\n<p>BMW further assures that the power will not diminish as speeds climb, all the way up to the 143-mph peak speed with summer tires or the 130-mph top speed with winter tires. The M60 has a 256-mile range and is powered by the same 84.3 kWh battery as the i5 e Drive40. The BMW i5 EVs offer a MAX Range mode that restricts peak speed to 56 mph and turns off climate control, heated and cooled seats, and the heated steering wheel. The 400-volt design supports up to 205 kilo Watt DC fast charging and 11 kW charging through a Level 2 connection. The new platform has a double-wishbone front suspension with coil springs and an air spring multilink rear suspension.<\/p>\n<p>Four-wheel steering, as well as active anti-roll bars and adjustable dampers, are options. BMW refers to its driver-assist technology as Driving Assistant Professional, which includes Active Lane Change Assistant.
