From hyaluronic acid to vitamin c, niacinamide, BHAs, AHAs and many many more, there are seemingly endless ‘active ingredients’ being touted around at the moment and you could end up buying and applying serum after serum after serum.
So in this video I look at some of the skincare products that we could pretty much glaze over and just focus on effective ingredients, drawing thoughts from consultant dermatologist Dr Natalia Spierings shared in her book Skintelligent.

Just turned it on and must say first, quickly, what a lovely Christmas Cheer Video and scene. Will listen to it now. Merry Christmas everyone…..
I enjoyed this video, thank you. Always too many facial beauty products to wade through! I noticed that hyaluronic acid was the first product mentioned that is over hyped, generally more drying, and one to avoid. Yet upon investigating some of your favourite products, I noticed they do contain it – the CeraVie facial cleanser (which I use and also like) and the Patchology lip treatment. But, like you said, do what works for you! I wish I didn't live in Canada – some of your recommendations are so incredibly pricey with our lousy Canadian dollar. Sadly, they're out of my budget. But thanks again for all the information.
So glad I discovered your channel a while back Clare. Love all the info you put out, and your common-sense approach, thank you.
It would be good if you did an interview with Dr. John Lyke Dr. John Layke is a practicing plastic surgeon with the Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery Group. He received his training at the Long Island Plastic Surgery Group, the largest and oldest private practice group in America. Dr. Layke is board certified by the American College of Surgeons in General Surgery. He along with a partner have created a great product called Dermal Repair Complex, it's capsules. I've only been taking 2 capsules daily for 3 days and I've noticed a good change. And I also use the ADIPEAU face cream which is great too. These two products are the only ones I use, I clean my makeup only with organic olive oil. Regarding using sunscreen, I prefer it vegan (without benzene, which is a carcinogenic ingredient) because many sunscreens contain it, also dry shampoo. It is very important to read the ingredients of what one wears and eats as well. Thanks for all the great information you share. Also Happy Hollidays ✨ Regards
Eye creams…I have to differ, I have to be so careful what I put near my over sensitive eyes. Regular moisturizer usually causes me eye irritation. Also Estee Lauder advanced night repair I can see a visible difference in fine lines when I use it. We are all different, but I agree I need to cut back. I have way too much.
I follow a lot of korean methods and actually see improvements to my dehydrated skin.
Happy Christmas Clare, to you and your family!! You are a breath of fresh air!! xx
Happy Holidays, and thanks for the video!
I am just starting to try a retinal eye cream, which if it works out will be a way to use a retinoid near my eyes, but other than that I concur the eye creams are superfluous. I look forward to your coming videos. Glad to find you in 2022. Cheers.
I hope you do a video on studies of tret fat atrophy or skin thinning long term!
Thanks 🙏
Merry Christmas!! 🎄 🎅 🇦🇺
I always love your way of presenting and you should be on daytime tv 😃 Enjoy Christmas🎅🏻🥂
I agree with most except serums totally disagree with that serums with actives have hugely benefitted my mature skin, moisturiser just seals it in so any will do, I use The Ordinary Serums and moisturiser, plus Iunik Beta Glucan serum that's a game changer if you have dehydrated 72 yr old skin, you don't have to spend a fortune save that for the devices 😆
Fantastic Clare 🙂 Loving your hairstyle today. I actually stopped my regular skincare to use the Adipeau but recently went back to my serums. I use vitamin C and also Q&A peptide serum (which has HA) I mist my skin before using anything with HA and follow with moisturiser. It seems to help me and does not dry out my skin (although having said that, there's always humidity/rain here in Ireland). I can see how it might draw moisture from the skin in drier climates. Wishing you and family a very happy Christmas and every good wish for 2023. xoxo
I started my 70 year old mother on an intensive am and pm routine for a month now. She has never ever had a routine before all her life until now. She has melasma and other sun induced pigmentations. Within two weeks her skin softened and became brighter. I took her for a simple laser treatment as well and that helped with the sun induced pigmentation spots. Once she healed from the laser, I started her on 5% HQ… her skin has improved tremendously. Her melasma lightened up. The before and after photos are so amazing even our family members were shocked when we showed them. Though the sagging and static wrinkles are still existent, but her skin looks so much better, even the deep wrinkles have softened. She is so much happier now. Merry Xmas and a happy New Year, Clare! Looking forward to the debate format thingy you mentioned. That would be so interesting!!! xo
Thank you for your videos, I find them very helpful. Can you tell me about the sweater you were wearing in this one? It looks very pretty. Have a lovely Christmas!
You look amazing. I can tell how the Adipeau has really optimized the face volume. I will order it today 😊
You look amazing! The adipeau is working. It would be awesome if you spoke about dermarolling, face massage/gua sha etc. Perhaps different opinions on facial exercises 🙂
I really like this channel, its informative and balanced, and I find your voice calming 😄. Well done & God bless.
Loved this video Clare, I’m guilty of wanting to jump on the wagon of THE NEXT BIG THING but of late I too have been simplifying my routine. Using Adipeau started the process as I wanted to pare down to the bare essentials to see how the product worked for me and my skin has definitely been happier and that makes ME HAPPIER ❤️
Loved that I found your channel this year and wishing you the very best for 2023 ⭐️
MERRY CHRISTMAS, Clare! I too am starting to dwindle down all my lotions & potions & save my money & time for the active serums that truly do work for me. Living in Arizona where it is dry, I was always reluctant in using hyaluronic acid because there is no moisture in the air out here. But Adipeau lotion has definitely made a difference for me & for you too. I have also been using Calecim cream at night & liking it. I've also used Emepelle cream at night too but am on the fence on it. . I love using my Droplette with collagen capsules which truly hydrates my skin.& am going to try the Azelaic acid ones too. I also use microcurrent, & RF & LED. I absolutely love you & your honest reviews & would love to see Dr. Spierings on your channel Thank you & may GOD richly bless you in the NEW YEAR!
love this video !!! but i love using a pampering face mask! might not make my skin look better, but relaxes me and makes my skin feel better temporarily!
wish i didn't just but those 2 hyaluronic acid serums!!!! maybe i'll gift them to my sister 🤔🙃
Thank you for your honesty. 🙂 x
Hi Clare, over the last couple of years, I've found myself buying the latest new lotions and potions without even finishing my existing ones, and they have never been that great, in fact, they have reversed all the good work my original ones worked so hard to achieve and my skin even started to sag.
I've now gone back to my original routine, of cleansing with any cheap non-irritant cleanser, followed by a Salicylic Acid Toner, No.7 Lift & Illuminate Serum, followed by Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream,
My evening routine is similar, using Glycolic Acid, Toner, No.7 Lift & Illuminate Serum, followed by the Elemis Marine Cream. Once a week I use No.7 Retinol serum.
I microneedle once every month at 0.5 depth with The Ordinary Buffet & Copper Peptide.
Every now and then I will use a face mask (usually part of a gift pack) and I do exfoliate once a week.
After 6 months of going back to my original routine, my skin is glowing and it has bounced back to what it was 3 years ago, and the sagging has lessened.
Everyone's skin is different and we all want a different outcome. If something works for you, stick with it and don't follow the trend. Hyaluronic Acid was one of the trends I jumped onto, and it did dry my skin out, no matter what I mixed it with. I've also tried tons of high-end Eye Creams, and not one has delivered what it promised.
Thank you for this video Clare, and thank you for all of the hours of research, testing, and advice you have offered us all this last year, it's very much appreciated. I wish you and your family a very Happy Christmas and a brilliant New Year. xx
This last year I've streamlined my skincare routine to a "less is more" approach. There are too many superfluous products these days.
Thank you, Clare. Love your channel. I purchased Adipeau through your link but still waiting for it to arrive – Christmas backlogs understandably. Btw, I wondered whether you have used the Oralift devices at all. If so I'm curious to know your thoughts on this.
Best wishes for a Happy New Year from Gill in New Zealand.
Happy New Year and may your results be astonishing!
yes on HA. i'm veering away from it but they put it in everything now! red light is my new interest too 🙂
Bravo Claire! Finally someone such as yourself cuts through all the hype of skincare and over-consumption of products. It seems we're all coming full circle from excessive steps in skincare regimes to minimal yet effective treatments. There are some people (both famous and not so famous) who don't over-treat their skin (even those who only wash their face once per day) and yet have the nicest complexions. Glad you raised this topic as it seems we need to rethink our approach to skincare.

Hi Claire
I just stared watching your videos recently. Question, have you always had this glowing skin or you got it after following your skin care routine?
EFGs can't tell the difference between healthy and unhealthy cells. Before starting with such products, it would be wise to visit a dermatologist just to make sure there are no 'suspicious' birthmarks or lesions on the skin. I personally would stay away from products that incite accelerated (abnormal) multiplication of the cells. **As for the (cheap) products that work, a few months ago I tried using fish oil on my face. I was amazed by the results. But, the smell was so pungent that I had to stop with it (or isolate myself completely from the rest of the world 🙂 ). I might try it again though, but this time with Cod liver oil (due to high doses of vitamin A in it). **
I would really like an indepth debate on the different derivatives of Vit-C. I cannot use L-Ascorbic Acid on my face, but have been hearing good things about the derivative Hexyldeccyl (spelling probably wrong) I was going to try that.
However, a beauty vloggers In highly trust, Penn-Smith, just did a video on Astaxanthin, & how it rivals Vit-C for skin brightening & Antioxidant protection, w/ out the same risks of irritation, & w/ superior antioxidant capabilities.
She also highly speaks of Copper peptides for moisturizing & skin plumping, which I just bought, but haven't tried yet.
And Dr. Rajani, (beauty expert & plastic surgeon) recommends niacinamide in conjunction w/ using Tretinoin, or retinaldhyde, or retinol.
I HAVE BEEN WONDERING ABOUT THE SAME THING. EXSPECIALLY EYE CREAM. MY MOISTURIZER SERVES THE SAME PURPOSE
Hi Claire! Love your channel and content! Just subscribed!! I was not sure about hyaleronic acid either, but I found one that has made a noticeable difference. I have been using a red light mask for a few years, and I always get a red dent on my face from the mask, taking over a half hour minimum to go away. The product I found hydrates so well that my skin barely dents with the mask now, and goes away much more quickly. Skin dents on my body easily also, and I have been told this is a symptom of dehydration. But I am just built like that! Even when I drink a ton of water, my skin dents when I wear shorts and sit on the wrong chair, etc. so annoying! And amazed to have found a product that has proven to hold hydration in my face.
Hi Claire! I love your channel, please Explore more interesting skincare stuff 😊 i would be very interested in growth factor video – i work for beauty retailer Notino and got serum from Sesderma with plant growth factors in it. i’ve seen some sceptical videos from dermatologists about this skincare ingredient but i find this serum really nice and looks like it is doing something? so, i am really glad you will look into it! have a nice day!
Do you stil use the geek and gorgeous retinal?
