Lyrics:
I ain’t gonna work on Maggie’s farm no more
No, I ain’t gonna work on Maggie’s farm no more
Well, I wake up in the morning, fold my hands and pray for rain
I got a head full of ideas that are drivin’ me insane
It’s a shame the way she makes me scrub the floor
I ain’t gonna work on Maggie’s farm no more
I ain’t gonna work for Maggie’s brother no more
No, I ain’t gonna work for Maggie’s brother no more
Well, he hands you a nickel, he hands you a dime
He asks you with a grin if you’re havin’ a good time
Then he fines you every time you slam the door
I ain’t gonna work for Maggie’s brother no more
I ain’t gonna work for Maggie’s pa no more
No, I ain’t gonna work for Maggie’s pa no more
Well, he puts his cigar out in your face just for kicks
His bedroom window, it is made out of bricks
The national guard stands around his door
Ah, I ain’t gonna work for Maggie’s pa no more
I ain’t gonna work for Maggie’s ma no more
No, I ain’t gonna work for Maggie’s ma no more
Well, she talks to all the servants about man and God and law
Everybody says, she’s the brains behind pa
She’s sixty-eight but she says she’s fifty-four
I ain’t gonna work for Maggie’s ma no more
I ain’t gonna work on Maggie’s farm no more
I ain’t gonna work on Maggie’s farm no more
Well, I try my best to be just like I am
But everybody wants you to be just like them
They say sing while you slave and I just get bored
Ah, I ain’t gonna work on Maggie’s farm no more

Today on my way to work i started my morning with "Meet me in the morning" playing in the car, right after that spotify started playing this masterpiece. I arive at my work place only to meet boss and he tells me that im fired.
What a coincidence
I know the feeling, you have no idea. Niaishe Bob, Father of Creation, Jesus Christ, Holy Spirit Maheo, and fellowship of the saints.
I prefer the Rage Against the Machine version
The disgruntled employee's theme song.🦴
Was he quiet quitting?
Your gramp has a lot to learn …
My five year old son just told me to play that song, adding it was the best song he ever heard. 😄
I have to add we are from germany, so he doesnt understand the text..
Rage Against the Machine
"They say sing when you slave, and I just get bored"
While the direct message can be interpreted differently due to the era and times, this is still pretty much how minimum wage labor works in our capitalist society. Sing their songs and march to their drum, and maybe you'll survive.
this sounds like some jewish boy whining lol
As a musician I am just STUNNED at the transformation Rage Against the Machine did to this tune when covering it. I've been listening to RATM's version for 20 years and today is the first time I heard Dylan's original. Hell, I didn't even think RATM was doing a cover! Spectacular song with either style!
Im only 63
Lovely looking woman in the picture.
Good
the legends are true
I aint gonna work on Rishi's farm no more
My all time favorite Dylan song!
I think it means he's not going to conform to the demands of the folk purists who didn't like him going electric. He's going to be who he is not just like them.
This is my favorite Bob Dylan son. Truely great.
🇨🇦 Love,
Bonnie.

Golly at age 73 I still recall the words😮
I like the electric version better
Just deal with it dudes (and ladies)- unless you win the Lottery. If not, that's it, then- in the words of another great, Jim Morrison, after a life of sweating and saving, head for that "shallow grave" (from The Soft Parade)…
Love this.
She's 68 but she says she's 54 😁. Love that.
I can hear this song playing in a film about the Alex Murdaugh Murders if someone ever writes it.
The Maestro!

How did he get into this situation in the first place?
I thought he was saying ain't gonna work on Maggie's CAR no more
The Tin Machine live version is still my fave. What a good song.
Getting ready to go work in the warehouse.
Este álbum junto con el Highway 61 Revisited me gustan mucho más que el Blonde on Blonde.
I'm here because of cover RATM
Special thanks to Barack Obama for saying he loves this song. It’s my first time hearing it and I love it too
Lyrics are usually secondary in popular music, but not when its Dylan. He's a poet as well as a songwriter.
