For the first segment of this week’s show; I tuck into a few juicy jobs on my Outspan Orange car. On its last few outings, it has been pithing me around somewhat, so now is as good a time as any to concentrate on the orange and get under the skin of this fruit-loopy jalopy. I had great fun peeling back the issues and getting stuck into some orange fixes!…

Part four of the World’s Fastest Electric Ice Cream Van project; having removed the diesel engine, chosen the electric motor, 3D scanned the mating faces and settled on a new ‘old’ solid flywheel, Stephen and I set to work in the machine shop creating a coupling to join the gearbox shaft to the motor shaft…

Thanks as always to my production pixies and their late nights, for capturing the magic and stringing it all together in a plausible fashion.

  1. I saw this in my cue and thought it might just be too light-minded, but Edd does an awesome work in approaching this project in such an intriguing manner, I couldn't help enjoying the whole podcast and learned something to boot. Great content and engaging intelligent forward approach to maintenance and repair. Serious fun. Thanks for taking the time!

  2. Great vid Ed. I'm sure someone has already mentioned it that 9.23 minutes in just a little correction on the thou to millimetre conversion. 30 thou = 0.762mm not 7.5mm and 25 thou = 0.635mm. You would need a huge coil to jump 7.5mil. Maybe you could do another vid showing that 😉

  3. Edd, please dont use those glass cleanable filters. The rubber seals are not ethanol proof and they eventually leak. The cheap plastic ones arent ethanol proof either but when they fail they fall apart internally and block the fuel flow which reminds you to change them! I had a glass one once and opened the garage one day to find 20 litres of unleaded on the floor.

  4. 24:04 – This is why I could NEVER be Edd China (sadly for me).
He looks upon this as a challenge…and finds an original solution.
I would just say 'fuck it'.

  5. The orange ball remembered me about a television series in my childhood it was could "Roby Toby und das Fliewatüt".

  6. Hi Edd you mentioned using a second-hand electromotor, it looks like a three-phase AC, but what brand is it.

  7. I always love when he uses something I swear by to replace a part!

Like when he used a clear glass/acrylic fuel filter on the Outspan – it just makes me fanboy a little, because, I never used anything else on my motorcycle engines!

    Love it!

I mean, if Edd China uses it….

Well… It is like a nice little thump on the shoulder and an "atta boy, you made good decisions and have good instincts!"

  8. Mr China is the kind of eccentric fruitloop we need on TV,very informative, doesn't box himself in,has a laugh,a natural born talent he is,oh by the way I'm 60 and never owned a car in my life but I have always found him fascinating.

  9. Having had a ride in an Outspan Orange as a kid, seeing Edd work on his must be the highlight of the series! Have also loved the Electric Ice Cream van jobs as I would love to convert my car to an EV in the future. #MilwaukeeChristmas

  10. "Grab an Outspan, cos small ones are more juicy naturally"…am I remembering that advert right? Xxx

  11. Brilliant. Like everyone says ,Wheeler Dealers just wasn't anything like as good without the big fella Ed. I came about this quite by accident looking for info on whatever happened to the outspan orangemobiles. Glad I did. The show is easily as good as WDs was. All the best. Ps. Don't age much do ya?
