Bonjour, Guten Tag, Hola, Ciao, G’Day , Hello and Welcome to Ellie Smells.Today I’m going to be celebrating International Fragrance Day 21st March.
It’s International Fragrance Day! I’ ve been deliberating about what fragrances I will be reviewing for today and decided it would be a good way for you to find out a little bit about me and the fragrances I wear. So I have picked my top 5 go-to fragrances, just some that I may spray and wear more regularly than other favourites that I own.
In at number 5 is the Fleur Musc for Her from Narciso Rodriguez. This fragrance was a surprise for me when I first sprayed it on my skin. The essence of this fragrance is floral, with opening notes of Rose and Peony. In the heart notes of all the Narciso Rodriguez fragrances for Her contains Egyptian Musk. This is an essence that he loves as it was once gifted to him by his sisters and he uses it in most of his perfumes.
So with the heart notes comes the lovely warmth of the fragrance combined with the Amber and Spices. Altogether a phenomenal fresh floral with a wonderful warmth on the skin.
I receive so many compliments when I have worn this, customers have even bought it after smelling it on me. However, I don’t wear the fragrance just to obtain compliments, I genuinely believe if you love the way a fragrance smells on you, if it makes you feel good and you love it, then enjoy wearing it.
In at no 4 is Ma Griffe by Carven. Anyone that knows me knows I love fragrances with history and vintage. Unfortunately, this is not a vintage bottle this was created in 2013. The original Ma Griffe, however, was created in 1946 by Jean Carlos. A sad tale as Jean Carlos lost his sense of smell when he created this fragrance.
The House of Carven began in 1945 by Marie Louise Carven, who designed couturier items for petite ladies, she was also one of the first to start pret-a-porter and also patent the push-up bra!
Ma Griffe is a clean fragrance, with aldehydes and floral heart notes. It seems to be a bit of a thread that I tend to be drawn to green fresh fragrances. This has also exotic nuances and a warm, heavy base. I definitely can smell Lily of the Valley and the Aldehydes give it a real sparkle.
I’ll have a cheeky spray, so I’ll be wearing Ma Griffe which also means my claw as my selected fragrance for International Fragrance Day. I adore everything about this perfume and the bottle.
At my number 3 spot is the Honour by Amouage. This is a relatively new find for me.
The bottle is based on the Ruwi Palace, the fragrances are created in Oman. The Sultan of Oman wanted to create perfumes using Omani essences to reflect the Omani Culture. The Honour contains the Omani Rose and has a white floral heart note.
The inspiration for the Honour perfume was the tragic story of Madame Butterfly. The white floral bouquet heart, represent unrequited love. After spraying this the essence again is green and clean with an overwhelming fragrant Jasmine which is just delicious.
Again I receive lots of compliments on this fragrance. The Amouage fragrances are very unique. They contain forty percent essences, making them stronger than most Eau de Parfum and they are oil-based, so they last on the skin longer. I tend to layer with the body lotion and shower gel making it more intense and deep, I prefer to wear this in the evening. Again the Amouage fragrances are not available everywhere and are a considered purchase if you get the opportunity they are worth a try.
Onto my number two which is The Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche. This for me is again a crisp, clean fresh perfume. All of the Chance fragrances contain Iris and Cedar. The Eau Fraiche has added Citric top notes.
This is a fragrance I can spray every day that reminds me of freshly laundered linen and makes me feel energised. Chance in french means luck, the bottle is based on the wheel of fortune and the bottle top is the dice. So you roll the dice and take your chance!
I love this one for summer, you can spritz liberally on those hot days and just feel cool and crisp and fresh.
My Number One. Again from Chanel is the Coco Noir Parfum.
This is quite different from the others. This is warm and spicy, combining notes from the original Coco and also the fresh notes of Orange Blossom and Bergamot from the Coco Mademoiselle.
This to me is just compelling, like a hug in a bottle. I tend to wear this on cooler days or if I’m feeling under the weather. It’s like wrapping yourself in a fluffy blanket, drinking a hot chocolate or your favourite tipple, watching an old film. Heaven.
So these are my top five go-to fragrances. What are yours? I would love to see your comments on what you mostly wear.
Have a fantastic day and smell fabulous.
See you soon. Ellie x

Loved this video! I see we have similar tastes. I used to wear Ma Griffe in college and absolutely loved it. I thought it was discontinued! I'll have a look now. You sure have my curiosity going for the Honour to sample!! I just got (cha ching) Creed Asian Green Tea which actually lasts a long time! Citrus and green tea – just lovely. Someday Frederic Malle's Portrait of a Lady will be mine. Meanwhile I purchase little samples and swoon all day or all night with one spray…. Thank you for the Fun video! Susan
I just LOVE your videos!!! Always look forward to settling in and watching! My top 5 are: Chanel No 5 Eau Premiere, Clinique Aromatics Elixir, Ego Facto Poopoo Pidoo, Etat Libre d'Orange Fils de Dieu, and Estee Lauder Youth Dew!
Ellie, I’m so pleased to have found your channel. I love, love, love Fleur Musc and Carven fragrances. I’ve found my dream channel – you know so much. Thoroughly enjoyed 🌸💐
Original Coco is my all time favorite. Second is La Vie Est Belle…third is Ysatis by Givenchy…four is Amarige by Givenchy and my Fifth would be Coco Mademoiselle Intense. Honorable mentions would include the Modern Muse line from Estée Lauder and Dahlia Divin by Givenchy. In autumn I enjoy a beautiful Chypre like Magie Noire by Lancome and Knowing from Estée Lauder. Great videos by the way
Loved this! my number 1. Hanae Mori Butterfly- if you haven't tried it, please do because it is so beautiful and makes me feel the best out of all. 2. Givenchy Dahlia Divin EDT (flowery peach-amazing) 3. Miss Dior Cherie (the old one that seems to be no longer!) 4. Narciso Rodriguez for her (black bottle) 5. Gucci Rush
My husband bought me Juicy Couture Nior for christmas a few years ago and although it's not my favourite and is just too sweet- it is by far my most complimented by men! I've read and watched reviews on it and it seems that almost all men find it the sexiest most attractive perfume out there. Like you said though, it's not about compliments, it's what you like yourself and Butterfly makes me feel the most beautiful and that's the best feeling!
I love the way you present your perfumes. Straight to the point and I love the way you describe the notes and the whole composition. It’s usually hard to imagine without a sample.
My top 5 are:
-Chanel, Coco EDT,
-Mugler, Woodissime
– Tom Ford, Velvet Orchid
– Memo Paris, Lalibela
– Amouage, Lyric, Woman
I also have Narciso Rodriguez Fleur musc in my top 10 because I adore the perfume but the longevity of the fragrance is disappointing. Maybe it’s just my skin, 2 hours and it’s gone…
I had the Chanel Coco Noir EDP but I swapped it… on paper it’s amazing but on my skin, it just didn’t last long. I didn’t know there was a parfum out, I’ll try it again.
The scarf look beutiful on You
