I love the smell of rose, in all its guises, so I made Jane talk for 10 minutes about the scent. She loves it really!

  1. In Arab culture rose is considered a masculine floral. I love the Korres and Rose & Co rose petal salve… thanks for the pointers.

If I may add a few rose fragrance suggestions. Noir de Noir by Tom Ford, which is a unisex, textured and dark oud rose – really fabulous, but not for the faint of heart. Also, Absolue Pour le Soir by Kurkdjian – saffron, rose, oud, honey, very animalic and carnal and 'eastern' (Persian).
The house Parfums de Rosine, only makes rose based scents, and has an excellent range: you're probably familiar with it. I particularly like Poussiere de Rose and Rose Kashmirie (another one with saffron). And Lutens, of course, one of his more recent releases is a superb unisex rose, a beautiful wine-colored juice – that has a wine-esque quality to it: clarity, depth and punch. (La Fille de Berlin). Could go on for a while but I should stop. So many roses, so little time. LOL.

  2. God this was good. A concise rundown of the beauty and variety of applications of rose. And I agree completely with the Unilever buying out REN sentiment. This sort of thing happens too often in the UK. Catch France or Germany allowing their industries to be hollowed out like this. Depressing.
