I appreciate the information! One counterargument I have to avoiding flavored oils like peppermint is that for me, a very sensory seeking person, the peppermint is pleasant to put on and when I notice the tingling is not there anymore, it reminds me to put it on, something I often forget to do. I don't lick my lips so I don't find that to be a problem that I've had to account for, but regardless the information is appreciated and I'll keep it in mind the next time I go to buy lip balm.
Honestly, I could be wrong, but from the research I've done, vaseline is not the best lip balm. Vaseline is pure petroleum jelly. Petroleum jelly was found at the bottom of petroleum barrels, meaning vaseline has toxins and chemicals are potentially cancerous. I've gotten rid of all of my vaseline products, including the ones that are meant for your lips. Once again I am not a professional.
I tend to get seasonally bad (and I mean really bad, like almost bleeding bad) cheilitis, and this leads me to have a constant supply of chapstick and other lip balms around me out of fear of it going downhill. I've found that I can tell when it's starting up, and only takes a day or two to go full blown horrible. The only thing that works in actually fixing the problem, and not just making it bearable, is Triamcinalone Acetonide applied around the lips (not on the lips, its a steroid and not meant for such usage in the first place, my doctor hates prescribing it for this reason). Just in case anybody needs this info
I am dealing with very bad chapped, peeling cracked bleeding lips for thr past 4 months. I am waiting for my Dr appt to be further autoimmune tested.. with taking extra vits, electrolytes, D ect and lip balm, it isn't helping. What else can I do. I haven't tried O'Keefe yet.
