  1. I have been trimming more often as well and loving it! Have you tried Carol's Daughter Cocoon Repairing Mask? I tried it recently and love the strengthening and extra clumping my curls did after.

  2. Absolutely love the final look. I only stand when I’m flat ironing my hair and that’s just because I have to. Whenever I do protective styles, I sit down and get comfy for sure! I don’t do too many protective styles though just because I’m a rebel without a cause. I think it’s because I’ve been natural all my life, so growing up all I wore were protective styles, so I feel they make me look childish, which I know isn’t true at all but that’s how I see myself. My husband actually prefers my hair in braids but I never do them but I’m thinking of switching things up this fall and getting more aggressive with my length retention.
I was thinking back to when I got to bra strap without realizing and wondering what I was doing (or not doing) to my hair at that time. And it clicked to me that at that time I was wearing a lot of head wraps and hats because I felt like I had no time to do my hair and I needed to look half-decent when I went out. Whereas now I’m wearing my hair out a lot and having to manipulate it daily. Even if I’m being super-gentle, it’s probably still too much for my fine hair and that’s why I’m getting a lot of breakage. So I’m thinking once the weather gets cooler I’ll eventually switch from silk pressed to protective styles and then come winter, I’ll find silk scarves or silk-lined hats and only wear my hair out for special occasions.
Do you wear silk presses all fall and winter?

  3. I did one set of box braids this summer (no hair addition). It took a long time but it was fun!

I've been mainly doing buns and french braids for my everyday protective styling. I used to stand up a lot while doing my hair, but that's too tiring these days if the style is going to take longer than 10 minutes.

I'm afraid that wearing the elastics on the ends of my hair will snap them off with the friction of everyday wear, so I just fingercoil the ends to seal them off in braids. 🙂

It's still too warm and humid here for presses—some people do them, sure, but they usually have "heat trained" hair—so I'll be waiting until the holidays.

Your braids look great, and the growth/length retention of your hair is absolutely amazing!! It looks so soft and shiny and healthy too. <3
