This is a step by step product review of Shea Moistures Tahitian Noni & Monoi Hair Smooth & Repair System that I purchased from Target for $22. The product is said to “smoothe the surface of the hair without permanently breaking bonds, so your natural texture gradually returns.” The system can be used for two purposes: for curly girls who want more manageable curls and less frizz or for the purpose of straightening curly hair with ease (with a flat iron).

This is MY personal experience with the products that the system includes. I am in NO WAY trying to put down the product or discourage others from trying it. There are pros and cons to this system that I will discuss later in another video, as it has been a month since Ive done it. Let me add that I absolutely LOVED the maintenance products that came along with the system and highly recommend them for natural who’s hair needs repairing.

NOTE: I am aware that my hair was previously bleached and colored. The system can be used on bleached or colored hair.

*****Stay Tuned for more on how my hair is currently after a month later. ******

  1. Have you tried the gloss spray? If yes, was it used on blow dry/flat iron hair? Interested to know if the Noni Gloss Spray eliminates frizz and has a high shine.

  2. It tried it! I have mixed emotions. I'm a 4A/B (very defined coils with a LOT of shrinkage). I didn't leave it in for the full 30 minutes nor applied heat. I gained length but my coils are more like waves now. My signature high puff isn't as cute (to me) anymore. It looks kinda 'wilted'. I'm still satisfied. I'll just have to go with a new look.

  3. Thanks for the video and demo. While my daughter and I were watching I kept saying how familiar you look. But was it a real life person or a TV person? Then it came to me! Julia Roberts. Beautiful!

  4. Omg! I thought it was just me. I tried this system and immediately noticed how str8 my hair had gotten. I tried this one because I felt the organix one was more harsh since you have to wear gloves. Clearly I was wrong because it treated my hair better. I still had my texture. After this one, my hair looked heat damaged. I love Shea Moisture, but this was a miss for me.

  5. I'm thinking of using this system so thank you for the video. Did you like the results? Did you curl pattern return to normal in 4 weeks? Please let me know. Thx.

  6. I am so glad I watched this because I have contemplated on buying..I think I'll pass..

  7. So, I used just the conditioner, I thought the conditioner would just make my hair shine. Before this I had no heat damage, and no color in my hair and the end results were almost the same as yours. I ended up cutting my mid back length hair to a twa because my hair looked so fried. I didn't even straighten after using thr conditioner.

  8. Thanks for sharing this.  Do you know how long this treatment will last for? Is there a way to wash it out like with a clarifying shampoo?  I currently use Chi Enviro and really like shea moisture.  I prefer bone straight hair for myself.

  9. Ok I dont understand. You did a straightening treatment. But u didnt want your hair straight? It appeared to me the product was doing its job….IJS

  10. I tried it and it pretty much did what it said: got rid of frizz, defined my curl and it also reduced the bulk at my crown which allowed me to easily pony tail my hair without using a mound of gel 🙂 My hair is a lot tighter than yours…more like Naptural85. So far I'm liking this product but the smell to me smells like burnt hair…weird. I'm going to continue to experiment with it and maybe shoot a video or two.

  11. I wanted to try the TMS system. I bought it but after reading the leaflet, I realized it was not for permanently color treated hair ( my hair is bleached and dyed blonde). It said it could not guarantee reversion in color treated hair. I watched a blogger with blond hair use it and at 5 months post treatment her curls started to return. I was scared sufficiently. Then I saw this shea moisture treatment, and it said it was ok for chemically treated hair, so I am shocked at your results!!!!! I will not be trying. I am sorry about your experience. Oh the noni fruit can smell terrible, but if it had something with sulphur that would be the chemical responsible for the rotten egg smell. All the best!

  12. Same issue here. Ive been natural for 3 and a half years. I dont get into curl patterns categories but i have fine strands. I saw that shea moisture had a new addition to their line and decided to get it. I've never been disappointed with this brand so without hesitation I bought and applied it that same day. My excitement turned into freight once I noticed the smell of the treatment. I saw my curls change almost instantly. Somewhere between 5-10 mins, I was already washing the product out of my hair. Wow. Powerful stuff. I didn't like it one bit. I actually cried. It's been 2 months now and my hair looks a mess. The product won't come out. My hair is breaking and thinning. PLS PLS PLS, READ THIS PRODUCT AND REVIEWS IF YOU HAVE ANY INTENTIONS ON KEEPING YOUR NATURAL CURL PATTERN. Very disappointed in myself. I usually do research on anything I put into my hair. Lesson learned.

  13. This was an awesome video.  I was looking for something I could use withOUT adding heat and this looks like it could work.

My beautician used texturizer on me about two years ago during one of my "experimental" phases because I simply wanted to loosen my curl pattern a bit and it seems like the trick is in how long these types of products are left in. I am still debating but your video and accompanying commentary were not only totally helpful but insightful as well. Your time and attention were VERY much appreciated. 🙂

  14. P.S. I really thought your hair looked cute before and after but I remember feeling something similar when my curls were first elongated two years.  I am johnny-come-lately to the convo so things could be totally different now. LOL!

  15. She is pretty and has nice hair but that was a complete waste of time since she didn't straighten her hair 🙁

  16. I am a little lost as to what you were trying to achieve..i thought the point of the product is to make your hair straight and not curly still.

  17. im really not understanding all the negative comments– of course a leave in prodect isnt going to fully straighten hair! it looks absolutely gorgeous and radiant– just like your face hehe 😀

  18. Thank you for posting this video. It was very informative! I know you weren’t thrilled with the results, but I’m still thinking of trying this because I’m looking for a different end result. I color my hair on a regular basis (going gray early…uggh), and my hair texture is exactly like yours. I blow dry and flat-iron it regularly, but I want to loosen my curl dramatically so I can wash and wear. I’ve used a thio-based gel perm years ago for the results I wanted, but the product is no longer available. I’ve been looking for a replacement. Would you recommend this product for that?
