Join Andrew Gordon & Roxy Striar as they burn rubber in the late, great Tony Scott’s 1990 NASCAR epic, Days of Thunder. Tom Cruise stars as hot-shot rookie Cole Trickle (Top Gun: Maverick, Jack Reacher), whose harrowing debut crash at Phoenix sets his career—and his life—on a high-stakes trajectory. Veteran crew chief Harry Hogge (Robert Duvall, The Godfather, Apocalypse Now) comes out of retirement to mentor him, while neurosurgeon Dr. Claire Lewicki (Nicole Kidman, Moulin Rouge!, The Hours) brings both medical help and romance to the pit. Cole’s fierce rivalry with champion Rowdy Burns (Michael Rooker, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Walking Dead) ignites on-track drama, and his teammate Russ Wheeler (Cary Elwes, The Princess Bride, Saw) pushes the tension even further.
Rounding out the crew is team owner Tim Daland (Randy Quaid, Independence Day, The Last Starfighter) and car chief Buck Bretherton (John C. Reilly, Step Brothers, Chicago). Andrew & Roxy break down every unforgettable scene—from the slingshot pass at Darlington and the fiery crash into the Texas oil tank, to the emotional, high-velocity finale at Daytona where Cole risks everything to pull a friend from a burning wreck. Tune in for an in-depth reaction to the film’s gravity-defying stunts, behind-the-scenes Bruckheimer flair, and Hans Zimmer’s thunderous score!

  1. Love Andrew,he is my favourite reactor on the Rejects team, but it was a little bit delusional of him to think and assume Cruise was just simply able and qualified to that easily do all his own driving and stunts in this movie,NASCAR driver Greg Sacks did the majority of it

  2. FUN FACT: Apparently Hans Zimmer stated that this was his worst score that he ever created, so that’s why you hear music from this movie in some of his concerts. He also stated that Crimson Tide is his favorite score that he ever created.
Two other Zimmer friends contributed to the score: Shirley Walker (who conducted some of his earlier scores and also some early scores by Danny Elfman) and Mark Mancina (before doing his score for the Jan de Bont movie “Speed)

  3. Before this, Nicole Kidman did the Australian movie BMX Bandits! One of my favorite childhood movies.

  4. Why are you kids not reacting to Jurassic World 4 as opposed to this obscure film?

  5. 48:30 another error.

Again, they’re supposed to be in Darlington, but they’re in Florida. The hotel is the Shores Resort and Spa in Daytona Beach Shores. In the background a few times you get a flash of a round building. That’s Top of Daytona where the rental car scene ended.

    More useless trivia:

The cab driver is played by Gary McLarty, a former stunt man with a long list of big time credits. He also plays the Toys R Us customer in Blues Brothers who asks if the have the Miss Piggy.

  6. You should review Dead Calm. Nicole Kidman is great in that. A rare gem of of a thriller that deserves more love.

  7. I think the box office was 2 separate figures so $158 million from a $60 million budget. So did make money although wasn't a blockbuster

  8. 56:38 Neil Bonnet (died in a practice crash at Daytona in thec90’s), Don Simpson (and no, the Simpson on the driving suits and gloves are the brand name, no relation). Then Rusty Wallace was in there. I saw a little Rusty in Wheeler.

  9. Most likely contribute the black on the faces could be contributed to tire rubber. Racing slicks wear quickly and the rougher the racing surface, the more prevalent it becomes.

  10. So basically Talladega Nights was a parody of this movie, they just re used John C Riley lol.

  11. I was told something about Tom Cruise I'll never forget and have found it to be very true. Tom Cruise is not an AMAZING actor but he is the best Re-Actor

  12. Cole Trickle might be a wild movie name, but Dick Trickle is a real NASCAR driver's name. Equally as wild.

  13. as a Nascar fan from birth since my dad was a massive fan, this movie is probably the favorite movie of a lot of nascar fans and also nascar drivers. Ive heard Dale Earnhardt Jr talk about this movie and stories relating to it dozens of times. I hope Cruise does make that days of thunder sequel cause Id love to see a more serious type of nascar movie that would hopefully bring some more respect to the sport from average people and be a great representation of what the sport really is and the skill it takes to do what these drivers do even though the majority of average people just view it as turning left.

  14. According to several of the players on the 80 US hockey team, variations on the "monkey humping a football" line were a favorite of Coach Herb Brooks (they started writing down his sayings like that, and called them Herbisms. Another popular one was "the legs feed the wolf"). They peppered his sayings in throughout the movie Miracle, including that one relatively early on. "That look like hockey to you, Craig? Looks like monkeys trying to hump a football to me, I dont know."

  15. Days of Thunder brought a lot of people into NASCAR. But, on the flip, so many existing fans and even those associated with NASCAR couldn’t stand it, mostly due to the Hollywood creative licenses they took that detracted from the realism.

I don’t think the cocaine and hooker money was part of the working budget.

  16. The crud on their faces is from the rubber particles from the tires, dust, exhaust, and aerosolized oil sticking to the sweat.

  17. Sorry for both your teams not getting past the second and first rounds 😅
