If you are a landlord or live in a college dorm you will likely experience a super nasty shower or tub floor at some point. Floors this dirty looking are no match for normal cleaning solutions and may seem like a complete loss. Hopefully this video showing how I cleaned a “non-cleanable” shower floor with oven cleaner will help salvage some nasty shower floors out there.

Surprisingly oven cleaner works surprisingly well to make dirty black shower floors clean and white again. In this video I show how I spray an entire can of oven cleaner on a dirty shower floor and let it soak for several hours. I then scrub the floor with an abrasive pad and brush and the shower cleans to an almost new appearance.

Note: This shower floor is fiberglass base. Oven cleaner is potent stuff (strongly alkaline) that may react differently with other materials. It is wise to wear skin and eye protection and make sure the area is vented extremely well.

  1. This works!!!!! Omg!!! I tried it because I was going to put in a new shower floor anyways…. The best!!!!!!

  2. Oh my gosh! I'm so thankful that I came across this video. I used an off-brand because that's all I could find. I sprayed it and let it set for about 2.5 hours. I tried the hot water like another commenter suggested. As soon as I poured the hot water over it, the gunk and grime started to come off. I did that about 3 more times before I actually had to scrub very lightly. I must admit I was a little skeptical about whether this would really work but I'm glad I gave it a try.

  3. I wait like 15 minutes or 30 minutes to marinate thee stain in the tub and after that I use green scrubber and it workedy

  4. I'm glad I don't own rental properties with tenants running oven cleaner down the drains. I'm going to try this at home though. But I'll wipe the oven cleaner off with a rag instead of washing it down the drain.

  5. I use "The Pink Stuff" and a round scrub brush drill bit. I can clean one in 10 minutes.

  6. Barkeepers friend. Sprinkle it on, mist it with some water, use a plastic scrubby sponge like 30 seconds later: its amazing. Not very noxious IMO. Works Incredibly well & easily on So many things.

  7. The “no fumes” blue can doesn’t work, so don’t bother. Going to try the old school full strength formula.

  8. I'm usually skeptical of these supposedly incredible methods of cleaning. But, having tried many other methods before to clean the shower floor with no luck, I went ahead and gave it a try. It really did work. While my floor was not as bad as the one featured, it was bad. I followed the directions for oven cleaning on the can of Easy-Off Fume Free Oven Cleaner, covering the area and waiting a minimum of two hours. Using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, I rubbed the shower floor and rinsed. What a difference!. I didn't get it all off on the first try, probably not rubbing evenly, but doing it again a second time it now has that almost brand new look. This worked.

  9. Safety tip, open the bathroom window, put a towel under the door in case you have pets that put their nose under the door. Use a good breathing mask for yourself.

  10. Does not work. Too weak. Will try the Easy off that requires gloves to use.

  11. Finally a solution to the problem I have had for years. I had tried even Comet cleaner without any luck. I sprayed it on just like said to do. The only problem I had was unexpected. My wife in her despiration to clean the stain had pour peroxide over the area. The gas coming off the Oven Cleaner and the Peroxide was dangerous and took my breath that I had to leave the room to breath.. Anyway. I left all it on over night to allow it to work and the gas from the peroxide vented out. Thanks again. I shared it to others on Facebook.

  12. Well I tried it and it really didn't work for me. I still have a shadow around the tub base. I've tried all kinds of things here on YT and nothing has worked.

  13. This worked great. Another cause of this is poor drainage. The water doesn’t get out quick enough and it stains the tub. Grab some drain-no or something to clear the drain.

  14. So disappointed but this was not the magic bullet I hoped it would be. It will take some plain ol’ elbow grease and a good scouring pad and brush. What I did find helpful from another vid is smearing Vaseline on the shower walls. It makes removing the grime easier. Let it sit for few hours or apply it in the beginning of the week before your routine weekend cleanup

  15. The blue can of oven cleaner means that it is the "fume free" version of Easy Off, that is, the version that does not contain sodium hydroxide aka lye. If it doesn't work, you might tyr the yellow can, which contains lye. Careful. Try some on a small spot first and use gloves. If it gets on your fingers, it feels slippery. That's because it's dissolving the outer layer of your skin.

  16. I wish I knew this years ago. I bought a house with a rubber shower mat in it. I ended up sanding it and reglazing the tub. 😂
