Hello everyone, today I’ll be talking about using natural colours in cold process soap making. The clays I mostly use are Australian & Brazilian Clays. I recently got my hands on some new French clays which I have not used in CP yet. I will upload a video in future when I have enough bars to make a comparison with the two other clays. You can also use food additives to color soaps like organic cocoa powder, turmeric & paprika.

I hope you enjoy the video, happy colouring!

  1. Hi again. Have been watching Elly for a year now and saw the interview 2 days ago. Thanks again for sharing. Enjoyed the video, and you explain things well. Am looking forward to the next one. Have a great day, George, and stay safe.

  2. Amazing video. Found you yesterday through Elys Everyday. Packed full of great information and tips. A massive thank you for being so generous with your knowledge.

  3. Thanks for your videos! Another topic not often discussed, and probably difficult to document, are the soap qualities and fatty acids that result from different formulations. For example, in soapcalc. Appreciate your willingness to knowledge share. Good day.

  4. Ive just found you after watching your interview with Elly. Oh my gosh! I am so glad Ive found you! Thank you you Elly! My dream is making soap so much like you and I was having trouble finding anyone using all natural colours and fragrance. You are truely an inspiration!

  5. Loved that you decided to be brave and courageous, and step in FRONT of the camera!! Like Elly, you have a way with teaching. So knowledgeable and informative, but in a very laid back style!!!! Been following since back in the day when you and Elly traded soaps. Enabled notifications. Love when good things happen to good people. Hope your channel AND soap business soars!!! Best wishes. Keep on soaping!

  6. I made some soap adding carrot puree and another with cucumber puree to give an orange soap and a green soap both turned out well

  7. Amazing information! Thank you so much for taking the time to explain in such detail and easy to understand 🙏I'm learning a lot from you. Can't wait for the next "Soapy Tech Tutorial" 😊

  8. Awesomeness, yesI found you through Ely toooo,,, YES to Australian soap makers, Thankyou for your time for teaching us, from an East Coast Aussie,

  9. Hi George, thanks so much for sharing your abundant soap-making knowledge with us! I have a question about using cacao powder as a colorant. If I'm splitting the batch to swirl in the pot, do I calculate the 1.5% (or less) according to the total oil batch weight, or do I calculate it on half the oil batch weight? I don't want to get the run-off that you mentioned. Thanks again.

  10. Hi George, thank you for sharing this great information, I hope you can make more videos for beginners like me, I can't wait to make my first batch to share it with my family, greeting form USA

  11. Hello again, George. This video was very informative. It made me crave some gorgeous Australian clays. Unfortunately, I am having a very hard time finding these clays in Alberta, Canada. I am wondering if you know of any company in Australia that would ship to Canada? I looked up the "Australian Wholesale" brand with the black labels but they do not ship world-wide. Regardless, thank you for the informative video. You are getting great in front of the camera 🙂

  12. Thank youuuu! Have you ever tried infusing the oil with lavender? I was wondering if I can use sunflower oil instead of olive because it has a less intense smell? However, I am doubtful if the soap will come out good…Anyway I am going to give the lavender a try!

  13. Great tutorial as usual! I've also used brewed coffee and brewed teas as the water portion and gotten some nice colors. The coffee is obvious coffee color. The teas are interesting. I used an earl grey with a bit of charcoal infusion for a lovely swirl in one soap. Tried to achieve a bergamot scent in that one, but I guess I need to re-watch the aroma therapy video as it didn't stick. But it is a pretty soap. I think also that coffee and teas have their own skin benefits.
I have been using some micas, but have intentions of fully moving away from those this year. So this is a perfectly timed tutorial for me!

  14. Hi George, you're such a gem for sharing your knowledge with us. Just a question about clay. Do you know what the ratio of clay would be for face masks? Also just wondering if you could blend clays with a small amount of oil before adding rest of oil to mix just to prevent lumps.

  15. Hi George
Does clay accelerate trace.I made oat milk soap with 50% replacement of the water in the lye. And added yellow Brazilian clay.

  16. George, your videos are amazing!! I am loving watching them. Please write a book on soap making! You have so much amazing knowledge and creativity, and you are very good at expressing yourself. Thank you for sharing. You have really inspired me. Georgina
