1955 sees the birth of extremely important creations: the 2.55 bag, Chanel’s Pour Monsieur masterpiece perfume and also Walt Disney’s Disneyland opens its doors for the first time ever! 1955 was a year of dreams and hope. The second World War was a decade in the past and people were celebrating La Dolce Vita!
Coco just returned to the fashion scene in 1954 to heavy French criticism but by 1955 American socialites and fashion magazines named her the Ford of Fashion! After that, France could no longer look away and could no longer snob her!
In this new spring, Coco launched the legendary 2.55 bag! Adding metal chains as shoulder straps to free the wearer’s hands in a fast paced new world!
The chains were in metal so nobody could speed by the wearer on a motorcycle or vespa, cutting leather or fabric straps with scissors and stealing the bags! Coco solved that issue elegantly and with class.
The 2.55 bag sits on a special throne surrounded by the best of World times in modern history. 1955 was a year of hope and positive outlooks towards the future! Despite all the odds, the 2.55 bag is still to this date (in my humble opinion) the biggest fashion and style symbol of hope and positive returns! Its a true testament to Coco’s brilliance, survival skills, design genius and love of beautifully practical stylish objects made to aid us through our busy everyday lives!
In other words, The 2.55 is not just the past and present! The 2.55 is the Future!

Chanel and LV with their aggressive price gouging will soon learn that many people will not have the excess money to buy their stuff anymore. No more free pandemic money and student loan repayments starting in a few months.
When it comes time to choose a new bag or a roof over their head people will pick the latter.

Dacob you should call yourself a fashion historian because that's what you are. As a buyer I dig into style and quality, but you dig way way deeper than that. And in the light of your movie promotion and channel growth you may consider creating a Wiki page for yourself. You are at this level already, no need to be humble.
Some people think handbags are just fluff and ignore the fact that you can learn so much about designers as well as the time they lived in just from the colors and materials. Loved learning this.❤

Also, have you ever thought of visiting the Dallas Museum of Art where they have a replica of the interior rooms from Coco Chanel's La Pausa villa? I guess the owners that purchased the villa after her, decided to make a replica for the museum.

I bought exactly the same bag last year and it is very easy to use. But my jewelries are all gold, and I am considering to buy a new 226 with goldware, it is also suggest by the sales when I bought the 226.
The goldware seems more bright, make me look more shiny, but the combination of the leather and ruthenium hardware is truly amazing and harmonic. I want to save my money and time, but I can't stop thinking about it. 😖

I have been owning this back since 2010. Love reissue 2.55 227 is my size. I had to let my classic medium flap go after this bag and that’s my biggest regret ever in my life 😢!!!

Sorry, I am so late ! Listening to your very interesting story about the 2.55 I have just discovered that I ordered a preloved 2.55 mini reissue bag from the 50th anniversary collection! In fact from pictures I can see the 2.55 and 2005 written on the interior flap!! What a lovely discovery. I have been looking for a preloved Chanel bag to gift to my daughter who graduated this year (but it is secret), I have been looking for a special one since months, just this week I saw this mini 2.55 as new entry in a preloved bag website and immediately I realized it was the right one, it should arrive in a few days.
