作品について / Program notes:
ジュゼッペ・ヴェルディ(1813―1901)による、1857―58年にかけて作られたオペラ作品です。
実在のスウェーデン王族を題材としていたため当時の検閲にひっかかり、ヴェルディによる音楽以外の要素（作品の舞台や登場人物など）にいくつかの変更がなされました。
こうして1859年にようやく初演され、人々に熱狂的に受け入れられました。
非常に完成度が高く美しい音楽の中から、第2幕の前奏曲・第1幕より占い師ウルリカが水夫の手相を見ている場面・第1幕終盤の合唱部分の3か所を取り上げて、クラリネット四重奏のために編曲しました。
適切なテンポを守り、4人の間で音量や音色のイメージを共有し合って演奏しましょう。
埼玉県立川越南高等学校吹奏楽部のメンバーにより、2016年度アンサンブル・コンテスト予選で初演されました。

This is from an opera made between 1857 and 1858 by Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901).
Since its story was about actual Swedish royalty, it was initially censored, and other than the music by Verdi, changes were made to setting and characters.
It finally premiered in 1859, and was enthusiastically accepted.
From this high quality, beautiful music we chose three sections: prelude to the second act, the scene where the fortuneteller Ullika is reading the palms of the sailor, and the chorus part from the first act. Thus arranged into a clarinet quartet.
