조구함, 9분35초 혈투 끝 日 울프에 연장 석패…은메달

Thursday was another action-packed day of sports at Tokyo 2020.
No gold medals for Korea, but one silver and quite a few other impressive achievements.
Han Seong-woo zooms in on how Team Korea’s been performing.
South Korea’s Cho Gu-ham on Thursday won his country’s first judo silver medal of Tokyo 2020.
In the men’s under 100 kilograms category, the world number six-ranked Cho went to extra time before losing to Japan’s Aaron Wolf, ranked number five in the world.
It was the first time in 17 years a Korean made it to the final of the weight class.
In badminton, both team “Lee So-hee, Shin Seung-chan” and team “Kim So-young, Kong Hee-yong” each defeated their opponents to advance to the women’s doubles semifinals… Kim and Kong, in particular, beating the world number two ranked pair from Japan.
The two victories mean Korea bags at least a bronze medal even if both pairs each lose against their semifinal opponents.
In which case, the pairs will face each other for third place.
Swimmer Hwang Sun-woo, after setting a new Asian record of 47-point-five-six in the semifinals, finished the men’s 100 meter freestyle final in fifth place Thursday morning.
That’s the best an Asian has ever performed in the event since 1952 when Japan’s Hiroshi Suzuki won silver at the Helsinki Olympics in Finland.
Caeleb Dressel of the U.S., who won the event, said in an interview after the semis on Wednesday that Hwang was faster than he was at eighteen.
Hwang still has a chance to win a medal though… in the 50 meter freestyle.
The heats begin Friday night with the final slated for Sunday morning.
Meanwhile, archer An-san, who’s already claimed two gold medals has advanced to the women’s individual round of 16 to keep her hopes of winning the triple crown… alive.
