In today’s episode, the Metal Gear Marathon comes to its conclusion with the last entry in the series. With Outer Heaven created, what else awaits in the life of Big Boss? We got two games here, technically: Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain!

  1. I love how this series basically ends with Snake face planting on top of random soldiers while screaming "NOW GIVE ME A HUG!"

  2. This game either has a terrible, incomplete, barely there story chock full of fanservice or it’s all purposefully by Kojima made to be that way in order to make a commentary on how Konami would not let him just end the series

  3. I think Phantom Pain is a good game on its own but as a Metal Gear game it kind of sucks. By taking a more serious, the series loses its moments of humor and quirkiness. Venom Snake is easily the worst protagonist in the series. Due to the game’s open ended design and lack of codec calls, Snake has very little to say.

  4. Wait. Diamond dogs? That's the name of a group of creatures in My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.

  5. Johnny, why do you keep saying a military base in Cuba when it's clearly is Guantanamo Bay. Hell it even has the infamous camp X in it.

  6. A couple years late lol, but I'm getting the game now just to mess around in it and blow people up

  7. Man, I absolutely LOVED Ground Zeroes. It feels like a perfect mini MGS. Phantom Pain however feels like basically nothing. Probably because it has no story lol

  8. I despise the stealth mechanics in the phantom pain I prefer the more arkady stealth mechanics that was a fun sandbox this is just overly realistic to the point of tedium

  9. I guess u need to be a fan to know why that venom snake twist is important for the mgs series

  10. A better ending I’ve seen is in the fan novel metal gear solid 5 the silent war. In the end it’s revealed that big boss is still in a coma but has been seeing everything happen through venom (y’know cause the whole phantom stuff). It’s also revealed that Ishmael was solidus

  11. You know what would have been really fun, if the real big boss had been cameo voiced by David Hayter in Phantom Pain. I know that wouldn’t make much sense considering ground zeroes. But it just would have been nice to hear his voice again

  12. Been a long time MGS fan, but I just couldn't cope with this one; when I was 10 hours in I just dropped it due to the repeatability and the sitcom way it was presented; so in that regard thanks for summarizing the story, which feels kinda half baked compared with the rest (not only because of the missing 3rd chapter, but in the grand scheme)

Yes, I know this is a 6 year old video, but I just found your channel a couple of months ago

  13. I would seriously love to see a Silent Hill marathon, I think you'd really enjoy the games – although, I know you've already seen them played on both BSC and SGB

  14. This was essentially a way to tell how Venom Snake was actually the one who trained Solid Snake and died in the original Metal Gear on the MSX2. In Metal Gear 2 : Solid Snake you beat Naked Snake, the real Big Boss and not the doppelganger Big Boss like in Operation Intrude N313.

  15. Honestly, as someone who HATED the minutes long exposition dump codec calls, the tapes were a good change of pace. They’re there for anyone who wants that deeper lore, but it doesn’t force the player to sit through all of that crap.

  16. What a mediocre end for the series, not to mention it basically time loops back to the first Metal Gear MSX game where Snake/Big Boss suddenly decides instead peace and no nukes, he confusingly wants to create his own super power and then a world of endless wars for soldiers!!! Even if he wasn't that involved with MGS 5 before leaving, DO YOU PEOPLE SEE THE FUCKING PROBLEM WITH KOJIMA'S WRITING!!! Fuck Kojima, I feel bad for everyone else Konami treated like shit, they got it worse!!!

  17. I HATED this game. The story sucks, the gameplay is the exact opposite that I want from a mainline MGS game, and the twist kinda felt like nothing mattered. At least in MGS 2, the twist followed up with a reaction from the characters and an interesting resolution that challenged the nature of the twist. This was just "oh yeah you're not actually snake lol". This game is literally Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker 2 and it should've been branded as such. If the title on the box and the title on the start screen was that, this would be a 9.5/10 for me (some of the bosses were so painfully average for me to give a perfect score). But because this is Metal Gear Solid 5 this can't be anything higher than a 4/10 for me personally. And I'd call myself a huge fan of the series, this being my favorite video game series of all time. All the lore bits that were interesting was like you said, buried in optional side content. I am better off just reading a synopsis or going through the Wiki if I'm only going to be in this for it.

  18. I think Phantom Pain would’ve worked better as a chapter in Liquids story rather than Big Boss, at the very least how this Venom Snake affected Liquids viewpoint on war and the world in general, making him the villain he would become because he was following what he thought was Big Boss

  19. I had a freaking huge crush on Quiet. She is so hot. So hot, I wish she was real. One of the only times I was actually physically attracted to a videogame character. I mean I actually got a boner. So good job Kojima.

  20. Well isn't V the crazy version of Big Boss in Metal Gear MSX? So this would be the version of Big Boss we get to know later.

  21. Here from the future they are remaking MGS3 though Kojima won’t have anything to do with it

  22. Completely off topic, but I don’t mind Snake’s voice change in this entry. It makes sense that Big Boss wouldn’t sound exactly like his son, as iconic as David Hayter’s voice acting was

  23. man if u always have d waker or d horse due as buddies to get from base to base, you have severely missed out on getting a starting vehicle at the start of each mission
