================================================== I took the original video and used a neural network that is able to Upscale and reconstruct
low-resolution images, keeping most of their elements and details intact. Comparasion 03:29
Enhancements:
Resolution increased from 640×480 to 7680 x4320 pixel.
Framerate increased from 15 to 60 FPS.
Enhanced lighting effects.
Enhanced Colorization.

Dude, is it possible to switch this video with the video from the game ? So if i cut this video and put it inside the music folder , will it work ??
Maybe i must change the file extension, or convert it to another file, but generally it should work, right ??
Amazing. Praise where it is due.
Super!
60fps kinda ruins it.. it no longer feels like the original tho clear but the added motion ruins it.
dude the image warping is so glaring especially in the fight scene but the image quality is much better
Amazing
The orignal one on the PS on a new TV that does upscaling looks better… this version has too much wobling and strange deformations.

incredible
remake when squareenix??
I was one of the upscale runners for the ALOV LE project that was ran by Audemus – a titan in the ME modding community. After all the care an attention to the settings of the upscaler done there, this by comparison, no offence, looks a little like amateur hour. Getting this right takes a lot of time. This, while it looks better than other upscales done, it still seriously needs reworking. But at least it gives me a glimpse into what this cutscene could have been, at least. (: Sorry for the edit, but I was far too harsh the first time…
That "wavyness" in the first half of the video during the desert and floral sections looks awful. It's extremely distracting and not reflective of the original video. I don't know if that was intentionally added or an artifact of the AI upscaling, but it's not nice. Also, is it just me or does the upscaled fight scene feel awkwardly slower than the original video. I don't know what it is and I've seen this a lot in poorly "up-framed" videos (24fps->30fps->60fps) and interpolated videos. I'm sorry, but the pacing feels noticeably off. The texture upscaling is very nice though. Although, at the flower field scene, the flowers are blur together in a congealed mess way too close to the camera. Not at all reflective of the original video. Which makes me wonder, which video did you upscale. The original video, or the video from the re-release/remastered versions. The original CD-ROM versions of the game had much more pixelated and often argued, much more detailed versions of the original video. But when Square released FF8 on Steam for the first time (Not the current "Remastered" version), they so-called "remastered" FF8's videos, but all they did was apply a horrible blurring filter to hide the pixels that turned scenes like the moving flower field into horribly blurred and congealed mess. It was so bad, a lot of people, including myself popped in our old CD-ROM versions of the game, ripped the original videos off of them, and replaced the Steam version's awful remasters with the original versions. Yeah they were more pixelated, but they were also more detailed with better definition than the mush Square released. Actually, while I've been writing this, I pulled up this video from my backup files to compare the original to your upscale and here's what I can see:
1: There is in fact a "slight" waviness in the original. But it's nowhere near as pronounced as your AI upscale and actually only shows up in couple specific scenes, and is generally so muted, that you can't see it unless you're actually looking for it. Seems like the AI upscaled latched onto what was supposed to be a subtle effect, and blew it way out of proportion to where it negatively impacted your upscale in a big way.
2: The fight scene pacing in the upscale does feel completely different from the original video. I don't know if this is an artifact of Square's "remastering" or from the interpolation, but it's definitely not right.
3: I don't know what caused it, intentional or not, but the color balance has changed significantly from the original. Such as floral field. In the original, it's very green and lit with very light browns only present off in the distance. but in the upscale, the browns have now spread across the entire image completely changing the tone of the setting. When you compare the original CD-ROM version of the video to your upscale, the differences are striking, and not necessarily in a good way. But admittedly, some people might not notice. I didn't necessarily notice the first time I watched, I was mostly distracted by how bad the waviness felt. But as soon as I pulled up my original CD-ROM version of the video, I noticed it pretty quickly.
4: The audio. Again, I don't know if you did that intentionally or not, but the audio compression in your upscaled video is really bad and a lot worse than the original. The original video did have a little bit of compression (I mean it was a 90's PC game, you kind of have to expect it), but it was nowhere near as bad as the compression and distortion is in this video. Again, I would be curious to know what your source was for the upscale.
My versions of the videos, are the original CD-ROM versions of the videos I pulled off the discs, unpacked them from their pack files and then converted them to .avi files using RADTools because they were originally in a bink format and the Steam version used .avi files. Please don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to be harsh on you. I actually applaud the effort. But you know as well as I do that if Square had released that video as part of a paid purchase, the community would've torn it to shreds stating all of the same issues I just did and they probably would've gone into a lot more depth than I did. And they would've been a lot meaner about it than I'm trying to be. I'm just trying to point out where the problems are with the ai upscale, suggesting you try to find the actual original videos (either from the original PC or Playstation) and use those as your source for the upscaling because you'll probably get much better results because the actual originals have much better definition and details that the newer Square blurred messes are missing. And don't compress the audio so much on the output. I know we're talking about very old games and videos, but even my original conversions are using a 160bit bitrate and I didn't even set that. That was the bitrate RADTools automatically set for the conversions after detecting the videos. You're video sounds like it would be lucky to be even half that bitrate. As a first attempt though, your results are really interesting. I do hope you try again someday. I apologize if I sounded harsh in this post. It is not my intent to insult your work. Believe it or not, I was actually trying to be constructive in my feedback.
And then you start the game and realize that was just Squall and Seifer training. Not even an epic duel. Seifer is just an asshole.
This is incredible
For it's time, this may have been the most amazing intro for any game ever made
How big is the file size for this intro?
Good job,dude.
That's how you start a video game!
Thank you for making this. Even the "remaster" version cannot be compared with your works.
Shapes and colors are distorting all over the place. The increased framerate somehow makes it harder to follow. Soz mate, this doesn't look right at all.
Kokozinho Hah hah hah hah hah
Aside from those wack-ass eyes, this looks amazing.
in america our schools only have guns, not gun swords. japan seems like a wacky place.
But as ALWAYS! Like some regular Anime opening, this one Spoils some things right in your mouth…just chew it and swallow.
Its like see it under water sometimes, but good try. But lost original source is lost original source. Damn they Square, you can make FFVIII great again if you not lost that hardisk! 🙁
We need a remake of this
Picked this game up the day after my ninteenth bday in 1999, popped it into my chunk old PSX, and was blown away. The intro! The music! The story! I'll admit the teenage angst bothered me a bit, but I was just coming down from it myself. I finished it and loved it, then played it again after getting a few more years on my boots and loved it even more.
With all this talk of "this or that one is better" I choose to look at it this way: Every FF game brings something unique and lovely to the table.
Best intro to any game, best soundtrack to any game (except potentially Nier/Nier Automata)
God, I hope they remake FF8
A very good remake. The best intro in Final Fantasy history, the same game ranks second only to VII in the overall Final Fantasy series. God bless old Squaresoft team forever.
The increased frame rate is kinda dizzying
A lot of really cool upscaled moments, but some of the fast motion looks really strange. Flying over the ocean and the field look worse than the original.
Clickbait.
Fvxxxx your Neural AI
FF8 should and MUST get a remake !
2:58 blood detail is amazing
