Star Ocean: The Divine Force reviewed by George Yang on PlayStation 5. Also available on PS4, Xbox, and PC. Narration by Mark Medina.
The Divine Force isn’t necessarily a standout in this long-running series, but it is a much more successful effort to bring Star Ocean into the modern age than its predecessor. The revamped battle mechanics do wonders for its previously limited combat system, offering more freedom and flexibility than ever before. The main cast of characters is also charming, even if the world they are exploring and the animations that accompany them are far less captivating. I wish its interface issues were less obnoxious, but even so, The Divine Force at least proves that Square Enix’s sci-fi JRPG certainly deserved another shot.

Welch is for ____________.
great and all but what is up with Ray's run cycle?
Got the PS5 version on a price error BF sale, courtesy of Gamestop Canada. Thanks mates.
Just remake second story already!!!
This game deserves an 8 or 8.2 out of 10. A 7 is too low.
Finished it in 20 hours not even trying to be fast at all. Just something to think about.
what do you expect with the Porcelain looks…. that's just how these games are…
Seems a lot like xenoblade chronicles x
Meh
Yeah but we know they're all just a simulation of ai that thinks they're alive… Thanks so3
nice
Square enix is overrated. They put out the weakest games in the aaa space. I’ve given them to many chances
Just got it. Its a bit janky, the lip sync is hilariously bad but kind of funny. Combat IS REALLY fast. its sort of like a mixture of FF15 / MGS Rising / Nier In my opinion
Need this and final fantasy crisis core remake
Biggest complaints the menu has black boxes and small font. Honestly some of the most aesthetically pleasing parts of this whole video that alone makes me want this game
Definitely not the best game in the series possibly one of the top 3 worst
Game is fun so far, but whooo shout out to the developers for including the option to turn OFF the music when out in the fields…
Surprised he didn't mention the awful frame rate you get in performance mode – even in 1080p. It's horrible at times. Just very clunky.
The third best rpg of the year after Elden Ring and Chained Echoes, an amazing game, super fun, 172 hours to complete it 100% enjoying every second.

This video is just nitpicking. Game looks great, and a fun spin on a JRPG. Too bad the reviewer is such a baby
The biggest disappointment in this game is not being able to use duma to freely move around during battles .. would have been so much fun to be able to use duma to dash around while casting instead of just dashing towards the enemy
honestly I'm a bit disappointed. Their characters look & movements are like they're from ps3.
Is it as grindy as most Final Fantasy games?
Horrendous graphics and bad combat system (AP) . If I’m being nice I’d give it a 5 out 10.
Sighhh but will still try it out
The mix of fantasy & advanced tech, and characters from those different realms, is what makes Star Ocean so unique and enjoyable. And this one was really a return to form and tons of fun – game design itself deserving high praise. The backgrounds were especially breathtaking – they somehow did skyboxes better than FF7R despite the much lower budget. It's just unfortunate that Denuvo, apparently poorly optimized CPU usage made the performance lousy on PC (doubly on Linux) and Square seemingly in no hurry to patch detracted from an otherwise amazing world.
