Yeah….fire the head writer for sure 👌
I hate how all the men are either pussies or extremely over masculine. It’s stupid. Let’s be real. Aloy wouldn’t be able to kill any of these machines. Not even the smallest ones. A man probably couldn’t either.
I enjoyed the game, but I skipped everything and spent most of my time upgrading legendary weapons (almost all of which were obtained by doing the arena while changing the difficulty to “story”).
This game was incredible. It did take awhile for it to hook me, but once it did… That's a very compelling story. The combat.. bro! So in depth. It's so in depth that there's tons of things I kept forgetting that I could do in combat. I kept forgetting about valor surge, I also kept forgetting about all the more complex plasma moves. There's endless ways to experience combat. Btw those races were so fucking fun that you could almost make an entire game out of it(old game anyway). It almost reminded me of Mario Cart or something like that.
Ya man I fell asleep multiple times during dialogue. Granted I was playing right before I went to sleep anyway but it was boring as fuck. Still a fantastic game!
Picked this up on sale, and you can now skip exposition scenes by pressing X, which came of something of a relief 🙂
Finally finished the story. The game obviously is awesome but there are for sure some annoyances like guys were talking about.
Personally I like the world and characters the game has. I understand where Joe and guys are coming from when they are talking about cutscenes though. If you don't care about the world then it for sure will be a chore to go through. But as they said you don't need to listen any cutscenes. The game is always showing what cutscene options takes the mission forward. You can also just skip conversations while listening them.
Also guys are definitely right with the story spacing. The game starts really slow and the actual game and story start way later than you would expect. Also when comparing this story to the first one there weren't so much of those "omg wtf is happening moments". Pacing in the first game is better in a way, because new shit is revealed in a good pace and you are curious to know what happens next and what has happened in the past. In Forbidden West there for sure are some of those "wtf moments" but clearly not as much. Big reason for this is because we know now what has happened in the past, so that big mystery can't produce that much more juicy stuff. Story wise the one thing that was actually a big bummer to me was the ending. I don't like an ending which whole purpose is just to sequel bate. It kinda makes the whole game's story pointless. The first game had actually a solid ending. This didn't and it makes me a little bit sad.
As they said everything is improved from the first game. Guerrilla has really maxed out everything the old PS4 can do and it is really impressive (I played this on PS4 pro).
There are some glitches here and there but it definitely isn't something that happens constantly. There were two game breaking bugs that happened to me, but both of those were fixed with a quick reload. They have also added a lot of new cool features Aloy can do, for example diving and gliding, which enrich the gameplay a lot. From these features the last one literally made my jaw drop (I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't played the game, but I couldn't believe it at first that my old PS4 was handling that).
As guys said there are a lot of customization and weapons. The problem with this is just how the actual game works. Some of the weapons types are just pointless and I never used them at anything. Hunter and sniping bows are king. The first game had the same problem (though it was worse), so I was a little disappointed they couldn't "fix this". Same goes with the costumes. Yes, there are a shit ton of different ones to buy, but their stats and usefulness are based on the perks they give. If a costume gives for example perks that make using traps better and you don't use traps then that costume is totally pointless (unless you want to use it as a skin which is a great feature btw). Cool thing about costumes is that you can level them up and then activate their separate perks for other costumes, but that takes a shit ton of work and isn't worth it in the long run. Also what really pissed me off was costume coloring. Extra colors are just plain bad. Most of the time I just used the base colors, because other colors are just ugly.
The one problem I have with weapons, costumes and also special talents you activate from the skill tree is that you always have to pick and choose the best option. This makes it that you won't use even half of the weapons the game has, you use just couple costumes that suit your playstyle and you never use multiple skill tree skills, because you can have only one in use at a time. All of these areas would need more player agency so that choosing between different things weren't completely black and white. Like I don't understand why we can't pick multiple talents to use when you have activated them from the tree. It makes no sense to me. Finding and buying new gear is still awesome and fun, don't get me wrong. But it could be so much more interesting, which makes this feel to me like a wasted potential.
Gameplay wise everything is as good or better than the first game. It is just a pleasure to run around looking new environments and fighting new machines. When it comes to machines some are really cool and awesome to fight against and some other ones are extremely fucking annoying. Luckily there are only couple of annoying machines and you don't face those constantly. With some machines there are also some move sets that are really stupid. Usually these are charging or jumping at Aloy in some form. Generally you would expect that when an enemy charges or jumps at you they have a clear path they take, so you as a player can dodge. But nope, many of these moves track your movement, which makes dodging extremely hard or even impossible at times. Getting squashed like this isn't enjoyable at slightest when those moves usually make a shit ton of damage and either straight up kill you or drain a lot from your healing capabilities.
Only thing that really fucking pissed me off were fighting grounds. I played the game on very hard and struggled here and there sometimes with the overall game. But after dying you just try again and learn from your mistakes. Not with these fucking challenges. These fighting challenges were so fucking annoying that I actually just switched the game on easy and went through them that way. The way how enemy attacks so many times just insta lock to Aloy and there is nothing you can do to dodge or counter is infuriating. Would really like to slap those devs faces who actually thought these were fun at all.
There are definitely many annoyances I listed here but trust me, the game is definitely fun and worth playing. You will love this, especially if you played and like the first game or you just like good solid game play with a huge open world to run around.
I would personally give this 8.5 / 10. On a good day a 9.
I just got my PS5 with Horizon TFW and you guys were right. Amazing beautiful game, with enjoyable gameplay but cutscenes really are a fuckn drag that you can’t skip. And the bitch doesn’t stfu and keeps talking to herself. Haha
best game of the year
Aloy…
I have no strong opinion on making Girl-Boss protagonists – but do they have to make them fugly and remove any feminine aspects of her appearance? e.g. do they need to strap her breasts down so much she looks like she has had double mastectomies.
i can't believe you got the actual character from the game to perform in your skit.
why did they make her so ugly?
other joe just needs an entire fan club of his own for all the roles he plays xD
Horizon Dawn had great graphics, but the story sucked ass. I'd rather have a great story with meh graphics. This is why I won't waste my money on Forbidden West. I'll play it if it's free. Spend more time on story and character development. I'd rather play PS1 games than this Horizon garbage
This deserves 2m views JUST for the the Horizon Customer Service Bit!
I died at that skit and rewatched it a few times!
Am I wrong in assuming this game made for a specifically (attractive) female audience?
Great review. I love how you covered the fact that she knows everything and there is no discovery. I couldn’t put my finger on what was wrong with the story in this game but that is it. Also, you really should know how to pronounce the main protagonist. She isn’t a metal. Her name isn’t Alloy it is Aloy.
Disagree with Joe about 1st game vs. this game. I preferred the first game's story because of the charm of it being different. This one felt more like instead of building off the whole "starting over from scratch" type world, it wanted to add way more space fantasy elements to it.
It would be like Red Dead Redemption deciding to add a bunch of sci-fi elements to the story instead of focusing on the era the game is supposed to be set in.
Huge fan of Zero Dawn. Forbidden West is an equally amazing game, but I personally feel it’s a bit too much at times. A better polished story and more focus on the characters and this game would’ve been perfect. Also, Machine Strike is the worst mini-game ever. Horribly, abysmally bad. Gimme Gwent any day.
I can't wait for horizon 3 because a generation defining masterpiece will release a week later.
Do days gone next one of my fav ps4 games
its a good problem for them to have, everything is great except the story/dialogue. Getting gameplay/graphics 9/10 the next game if they focus on that story it'll be 9/10 overall. Dope.
Joe: "Alloy" and "Elizabeth"
Nuff said.
I only like the game because of the main character 😉😏
The problem with this game and the first one is there is no benefit from talking with the NPCs for 20 mins.
Its not like you gain favor with them by picking certain replies and doing side missions to gain rep then you get a mount or weapon.
Or you don't gain rep and have a relationship with certain NPCs like in Witcher 3.
Or you purposely choose options to fall out with the NPC and fight them.
There is a wheel of choices but with no variation of the outcome at the end….all roads lead to the same place…
So you just end up switching your mind off half way through the conversation.
I really want to play this game, but i do not want to play it on my pc. I want to play on console only pending my purchase of it of course.
I would play this if I only I could find a freaking PS5 to buy….. come on Sony!
I agree with most of the things they said dealing with the story because even though I found it interesting I wasn’t 100% invested in everything considering how many tribes there are. Graphics, voice acting, action/gameplay were top notch. I disagree with the music critique I thought it was nice, but too be honest When I play a game I don’t really care about that-/ much. Overall it’s an improvement over the first and I am looking forward to the third installment. If I had to nitpick over anything in this review it would be Joe constantly mispronouncing literally every character/tribe in the game 😂.
I highly enjoyed this game. Kinda disappointed with the final boss but the overall experience was excellent with the gameplay, graphics and activities within the quests
Havent finished it yet but I knew it'd hook me in once it got into the meat of the main storyline because thats how it was with the first one. I was playing HZD just because I paid for it but once the story starts to unravel I just want to know more and more. I actually dont care much about the tribes either. I want to know about the old world characters and their project to save the world and how it all the went sideways due to greedy lunatic
Joe couldn’t get invested in story because it was written for feminazis
Damn audio on all your videos is way too low. Can never watch on my phone.
Yeah, i agree with your opinion on Saints Row (2022) but I'm doing the same exact thing that you did with that game… to your angry game reviews in this bullshit format by calling them "Angry Review (Discussion)" to separate them from your classic format.
Also, SKIP!
3:57 Aloy looks a little like Paul Rudd. Maybe the next game will have some Tayne.
Hmm crazy, I would rate the first game an 8/10. All the knowledge about the old world and the new world I though was amazing and REALLY made me care. Besides the facial-animations, I thought it was a 10/10
The original is a million times better in every way except for the graphics of course
I remember playing this game when it was called tomb raider. These games need to die.
the third game should be a sequel but it's a first person shooter like KILL ZONE and you're battling the outbreak of the robots, it's great because a prequel can be rightfully futuristic
Thats the uncanny valley. Its such a girly thing. To buy A game just for the visuals
Cant wait for part three when all the strong independent wamen of the world unite against the evil straight white male Ted Faro….
…not🤮
I will happily never touch Elven Ring.
I'm really struggling to get through this game. It's so fucking boring to me.
This game is woke trash
So same issues as the first game, boring story and uninteresting side characters but a solid world with solid gameplay.
I love this game but I do agree with the critiques about the dialogue and the music not being memorable. They used the same opening as the first one with a little twist but that's about it. I did have some bugs like when I was fighting the sons of Prometheus with Erend he kept getting stuck in bridges and rocks and sometimes he'd fall in battle but wouldn't get up and he kept talking while down. I tried to restart the mission but even that didn't work I had to beat them alone and get a part with a cutscene to bring him back. There were other weird things with the trap mechanism we got that wasnt worth a damn. I love the skill trees but the grind for them was way too much. I also wish we could've got past a level 50. The one thing I hate about this game is the ruins activity were you have line up the images I couldn't seem to get even one correct.
My jaw dropped seeing the graphics for the first time
I dont get the issue with the dialogues; All of them have a symbol indicating which option you have to chose to progress the story and skip the others if you wish. Also all of them can be either fast forwarded or skipped.
