Soul memory removal is the best possible thing ds 2 could've hadngl. When i play, i try to almost never use souls for anything and each death without soul reclamation is like "ah yes, you permanerfed this character". Like, soul memory is the worst mechanic of dark souls 2. It was intended as a way to fight twink builds, but not only did it fail, it also made it so that if you use consumables often, die often, or use chime hexes, the game becomes harder and harder by putting you at a higher multiplayer level. So, skilled invaders would be higher level than you, the noob, who died a lot. Thankfully, soul memory is ignored in the arena. After playing online with soul memory, playing solo feels liberating.
As for hexes – while it can be seen as the cost of such hexes, i doubt it was the intended cost or is a good cost. Like, those hexes use up souls in addition to slots – that's it. Problem is that they are kinda OP and you can have a ton of souls to spam them. I think that such hexes should've inflicted some temporary status instead. Say, percantile max hp reduction, whuch quickly regenerates back to normal. So, if you cast two resonant souls, you are at 50% max hp, you effectively would take double damage and so, once your hp returns to normal, that 400 health dent would scale up to 800 health lost. This would've been a better trade-off. Maybe it could also do the same for stamina, making it so that your character is really using some dark magic with their lifeforce stuff to cast spells. Soul cost could've be kept there for the soul flavor, but i think that would already be a nice nerf.
Soul memory PVP is the best thing ever happened to DS. Use your souls wisely, equip agape ring and you got nothing to fear. Never cared about these low SM twink builds, since I became one. Got my share of getting rekt, ended up being kind of good. Figured a a way of making my invader experience slightly more easy. What's wrong with that?
Can I please just have an easier way to connect and play with my friends, almost like seamless co-op mod for elden ring. I love this game, unpopular opinion, it's my favorite soulsborne game. I've played through it 3 times now and I just want to help my friends with their playthrough.
I am a bit confused with the Soul Memory removal feature. When i was using it before servers went down, it already had an option to invade upwards infinite but i think we can't say this is soul memory removed. It still exists and matchmaking is still decided by the SM not SL. Unless this is a new feature i think SM still matters since if you keep invading, this will bloat your SM and cause less activity the more you invade. Regardless of any of this tho, it still an amazing mod for all the other features it has. Excited to use it again.
