“If you require rest, now is the time. That is, after all, what the bonfire is for.”
The atmosphere of Dark Souls parallels that of life’s perfectly: horrendous here, yet beautiful there. Thus, I took to writing a poem on what I hear the bonfire whisper to me as I rest beside its flame.

The Bonfire

Thou art chosen, yet thy choice remains
To save thy losses or gamble thy gains,
For in these lands that brim with death,
None shall guard thy hearth nor breath.

Hast thou fondness of thy days’ past,
Or hath a horror fueled thy wrath?
Indeed, our toils sow many a seed
Deeply in soils that smile and weep.

Thy kin of undead are wary and frail
Such that rubble be far more hale.
Pray, which purpose windeth thy sail?
Pray, which fate weaveth thy tale?

Ah, save thy resolve for paths ahead
Lest sanity truly abandon thy head.
If thou return from lands ne’er tamed,
Seek me anew in a warmth e’er flamed.

  1. I now have an extended 10-hour version of this video after reading a few comments that desired one ✨
Enjoy the musical comfort here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQj0kT_X6D4

I'm glad to see the recent activity on this video inviting and fostering support. We are all living intricate and complex stories and it's easy to forget that, when simplified to our primal nature, we merely wish to survive as a minimal objective. However, humanity's potential would be wasted if we do not also live while we survive, but life happens and the joys of living are often obfuscated along our travels. From video games to churches, we all seek our personal sanctuaries, and I'm glad to see more vulnerability being communicated in healthy ways rather than suppressed and resurfaced as needless animosity. The world is slow to change only when we are, for we are as much a part of the world as the world takes a part in us. Smile during the good days, rest during the challenging ones, and breathe during all of them.

  2. Isn't this all one needs in a dark world? A bone fire, a place of rest, that reminds one of his humanity. Be mindful, to never forget your light, because that is who you are. Good luck, for nothing is granted in this life. I hope to see you again. Stay strong, knight.

  3. This particular Firelink shrine is special to me, I like ds3, I love Majula and Nexus, but I prefer to come back here as my comfortable place. I know DS1 like my own city and I always came here when I was feeling melancholy

  4. Honestly, Majula’s theme is great and all but it gets old after a while. The same can’t be said about this one.

  5. The music itself brings that sensation.
Its beatiful, sad, gloomy and mystical, all that DS Games are.
Thank you, you, strange bard from internet

  6. Самое теплое место для меня с 2013 года. Спасибо, Миядзяки.

  7. I'm tired. 3am here. And i'm going to sleep after another rough day of being a failure. Good night everyone <3

  8. Ahh rest now hollow one your battles may not be over yet but peace you can enjoy if you seek it like warmth from this fire in the cold wretched world we walk

  9. elden ring was good and all, but it could never make me feel as emotional as dark souls does. dark souls taught me that whether the goal is meaningless or not, whether there is hope or hopelessness, there are still the others that you meet along the way and who will be there for you. even though almost all of the characters in the game canonically die or go hollow, all that matters is that you were there for them, at least once, and that they were there for you too.

  10. Hey everyone I just got dumped by my girlfriend for apparently ni reason just got cut off thought I'd rest here fir a while if that would be alright.

  11. POV: You just found the elevator shortcut with 20% HP and no estus or humanity

  12. In my loniness in losing so much in my divorce I sometimes come back and listen before going out into the world again. I have to keep trying…

  13. This music captures the hardship, the hope and the pain of the games journey so wonderfully that it actually makes you reflect on your own struggles… and provides you with strength and peace.

Its achingly beautiful. It is life.
