Never understood why people are mad at Maria when she’s the only person who’s trying to keep the entire town safe.
Bro the opening / intro scenes are pretty much immediately after Ellie and Joel have arrived and settled back in Jackson. A few days, maybe a couple of weeks most. Joel just looks older because they gave him more detail. As for the awkwardness between them, I put that down to their being in a new and unfamiliar situation together – relatively safe and comfortable environment, nowhere to go, no immediate threats, they are finally able to just live and be 'normal' – so the dynamic has changed. They are adjusting to a new relationship.
It's not split 50/50.
Probably more like 30/70, it's just that that 30% is so fucking LOUD about not liking it.

The entire point of Joel’s death is that all actions have consequences. It’s a perfect way to up the stakes and I didn’t use to feel that way but here we are.

I fully understand why you would hate this game but if you take your time to understand and I mean really understand it, it is not only a masterpiece but THE best not only game but piece of literature I have had the pleasure of perceive in my entire life. And I know that’s controversial but this game imho is just so absolutely perfectly executed. I have played it over 4 times fully now, have all trophy’s and platinum the full soundtrack on vinyl INCLUDING the mondoshop released covers and rarities all to emphasize how much I truly love this thing.

I love watching people play this game. I've lived this story so many times over the years and taken in the phenomenal analysis by people like TLOU Explained, it truly makes you appreciate the power of stories and how expertly ND manipulates the audience. In a good way, mind. Reflecting on the story after the fact is an eye opening experience. Seeing where people start and end up feeling with this game is fascinating and I cannot get enough.

Unpopular opinion: Joel was never a protagonist to begin with. No one in TLoU universe is a protagonist. This was emphasized even further in the TV show. Can't wait for season 2.

Joel didn’t take away Ellie’s choice tho. The fireflies prepped her for surgery before she could consent to it or not. The fireflies took away her choice.
i saw a video a few days ago of troy baker himself (joel’s voice actor) saying that this death makes sense in this world. it’s a survivor game and as much as a sacrifice would’ve been cool for such a notable character, this death shows the reality of this world. it’s brutal and cold and i’ve seen many game plays of this game since 2020 so i’ve always thought it was a masterpiece but that made it make sense even more
This game beats you into submission. It leverages every gamers impulse to complete a game and uses it against you. By the end you just want to be done. You don't want to do this anymore. You want Ellie to lose. But God dammit if you want to finish the game you WILL keep going.

Best game ive ever played, once u get over the rage and anger at joels death. You'll appreciate this game a lot more. The story had to go this way for it to make sense, and to make us feel all these emotions

This Game Is Literally Torture Ellie The Video Game Especially With How It Ends
People saying people didn’t like that Joel didn’t get a hero’s death… no, the death was so badly written and timed. They didn’t let us bond with abbey or anything it was just “here’s this random person, they violently take out a beloved character, now you must love her” stuff that idea…
TLOU2 defenders are so die hard for this game, and you know what, it’s good, you care about something. But, please do realise that behind your love there is terrible writing in this game, it’s just “subvert your expectations” writing. Joel and Tommy, walk right on in to the middle of a room full of armed STRANGERS without a care in the world, tell them everything about themselves and guess what happens next? You all know what happened next. Joel for 1 wouldn’t even want to go inside and would probably just debate staying outside. If he did go in, he’d stick by his horse with Tommy and with their weapons. He wouldn’t talk to them unless he felt he had to. This dudes survived 20 long years in the apocalypse, before the first game even really kicks off, you don’t find out everything but everything you find out about what Joel and Tommy did, is mind blowing stuff and you see that Joel especially is very capable in survival. Basic survivalist will tell you, stranger danger… don’t we all find this out when we are like what 3? Abbey taking out Joel is not what I have a problem with, it’s when it’s done and how it’s done. Look at GOT for example and the death of Rob Stark, then look at the death of Little finger. Rob’s (though heartbreaking) made so much sense, but little fingers was horribly written and made exactly zero sense.
