My full analysis of King Vendrick: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Sbg2in8trU
What I noticed is that when you fight Gwyn his healthbar reads "Gwyn, Lord of Cinders" because while he is no longer the Lord of Sunlight he is still a Lord, a King, a God. His title just changed in his hollow-like state, charred in body and mind, but he still stands tall and mighty enough to deserve to be called a Lord and to be feared as such.
Vendrick… is Vendrick. Despite still wearing his crown and wielding his sword, despite his kingdom still existing and his servants still recalling his name and deeds (all of this just like with Gwyn) he has no title to accompany his name. He is been deprived (or he renounced) of his higher status and he's just introduced to you as a man.
Meh, just a repeat of Gwyn, but more in your face. Subtlety, whats that?
What is that build tho😂
When I saw him, I had to take a short break. His wandering around reminded me too much of how it feels to be truly depressed.
Personal opinion is that the "hollowing curse" only became a thing because the gods (like gwyn and his family, think all the bosses who are fucking massive yet not quite giants) fought against the natural order, desperate to maintain their own power; the flame. They burned out the core of their world in their hubris and selfishness, their fear of losing their power has lead to the hollow plague, they have none but themselves to blame.
Usher in the age of man. Cast down the gods who have stagnated our world
Like Macbeth
he does give you the cure for the hollow curse, when you get his crown and the 3 dlc crowns. he then gives you the cure in his memory
The queen and her sisters are the real reason the kingdom fell they were the reason they went to war the reason for everything evil in the end ds2 really told us Bros before evil life sapping hoes
Somebody better talk to my girlfriend then, because I'm all hollowed out from being unfulfilled….
You know what I learned? The giants did nothing wrong. He doesn’t just get to go hollow and limp around like he didn’t start that war. So I collected their souls and killed him with them.
I remember feeling so bad for Vendrick when I found him.
Imposter Syndrome incarnate
The most recent RWBY episode
I always thought hollowing was losing one’s purpose , it’s why Andre is ok in ds3, he constantly has the purpose of smithing , and that’s what keeps him going
I think we all have had that person in our lives that is Nashandra to our Vendrick. Making us lose ourselves until we are not but a husk of ourselves worrying about our self-worth until we are just as hollow as the undead in Dark Souls or at least feel like we are.
I loved the moment where you find the king for the very first time…
Dark souls 2 is my favorite
the definition of essence is something that all things share. So, what do every soul share, no matter how they are, big, small, corrupted or not, they all have the same essence, their origins. Where did all souls come from, how did life itself came to be?
The First Flame.
The First Flame is the essence that all souls have, so, when he peered into the Essence of the Soul, he peered into the First Flame, or rather, its access point, the Throne of Want, the same throne that Gwyn used to reach the Kiln, shown by the Folorn Hope trailer, Vendrick, still young, found the Throne of Want thanks to Nashandra's counsel, then after this, built Drangleic Castle with his prize, the soul of the Giants
Out of the trilogy, seeing Vendrick for the first time shook me. He's easily the most tragic of the 3 "kings" of the trilogy, the other 2 being Gwyn and Oceiros. Oceiros wasn't too tragic, he simply lost himself thanks to Seath's teachings and somehow got turned into a Dragon after also trying to learn the path of the dragons iirc.
Gwyn was sad, but if you look back at what he has done, it feels fitting that he became such a husk after denying humanity the chance of even living and dying thanks to the darksign and the curse. And speaking of, that's exactly what happened to Vendrick.
He became hollow, nothing but a husk and only barely draging around his sword as he wanders aimlessly. He researched for years to find a cure to the curse, and after figuring out there was none, he gave up and let himself be consumed as he knew he could do nothing. So tragic…
Vendrick has the most hp and dmg but was one of the easiest and the music makes you feel sad for him. Fighting him didn't feel like a victory
I still remember stumbling into this area, blind, on my first run of any souls game. 😢
seeker of fire. coveter of the throne.
If they just stumbled on one another and decided to throw hands, Gojo wins.
If they both get prep, then I bet on Makima, since she seems to be the significantly better planner and would come after him with with indirect tactics and abilities/servants designed to seal him out bypass his defenses, especially since Limitless doesn't block effects that don't need to travel to you (like that instant crush ritual she used against the Yakuza). Also, I'm not sure if Gojo's Domain Expansion would do anything to her, of only because it's basically the off-brand version of the Cosmos Devil's ability to actually shove all the knowledge in the universe into your head and while she was portrayed as being able to instantly take out a powerful enemy who had contracted with a Primal Fear, her entire crew was absolutely terrified of the idea of even being in Makima's presence.
I wish I could get more info on which decisions were his and which were influenced by Nashandra.
He startled me entering this crypt. I wasnt afraid just felt so much sorrow. Like a dark ocean
If this wandering hollow is Vendrick then what's the thing behind him?
Vendricks story is sad because Nashandra changed him form being a strong and caring king into someone like Gwyn and heartless and selfish leader
What’s scary is how powerful he is hollowed … we saw Gwyn hallowed and we’re able to to defeat him . Vendricks hollowed she’ll is still so powerful had you shown up without Gaint souls … that dude was probably so damn powerful before Nashandra found him
Yet fighting him is as satisfying as a wet fart.
He just like me frfr
One thing i love about the whole "inability to look oneself in the eyes" point is that in ds3, the player has no reflection while hollow. They can't reflect on themselves, and it connects back really nicely
I think its haunting seeing him, especially when you go into his memories and see him just sitting in the corner with no hope
He could of oh I don’t know, maybe fought back against the giants and not let them bring his land to ruin?
I’ll never forget the buildup towards trying to find king Vendrick, arriving at the castle feeling hype, getting to the room, feeling my heart sink, thinking… “that can’t be him.. right?” Utter disbelief.
Then you realize he went Hollow because in the past he gave the Bearer of the Curse the magnificent soul he used to keep the Hollowing at bay.
lol this is all wrong the lore is all wrong. where is his wife mentioned??
This is whats left of the once great and mighty Monarch Vendrick
Gwyn: Attempts to kill you by jumping at you.
Vendrick: Walks around doing nothing until you attack him several times.
DS 2 is a great game amongst nearly perfect games. Change my mind
Aldia & Vendrick – best lore elements in whole Dark Souls triology
I love you all, who sought wisdom enough to watch this video.
Even if the curse cant be broken. Lets treat eachother well until the end.
Maybe that's the real trick?
Who do you become when you know the inevitable end cant be stopped? Not that it can be cured, but who will you be after touching the abyss of knowing it cant?
