I'm currently replaying it, and as a standalone game, it's amazing. The true crime committed here was selling this guy off as Dante. Had this been another devil hunter related to Sparda, it would've been more accepted.
I like this game but I don't associate it with anything related to DMC. What they did to Vergil still pisses me off because of how lame they made him but I love the soundtrack and the gameplay is easy to lay back and play

Ngl they could have 1. Had the game under a different name, and it would have been fire 2. Created new characters for the dmc series, like how people abroad deal with the demons, or mabey based on some other demon offspring. Or 3. Just not made dante emo engy engelord and not made vergin a weeaboo fedora no bitches dweeb.
They also had to change dante's original look when people complained about him looking too emo with his original hair design. The guy who owned ninja theory (a 50 something year old emo dude) originally had dante modeled after himself
oh i love this reboot game, good story, the same awesome gameplay and the only DMC with German Voiceactors…and the "Young Dante" is the Same Bad ass we know.
It was completely unnecessary, screwed up all the characters, and had awful designs.
Dante was cool and charming because of how goofy and ridiculous he was, not because he was a liquor crushing womanizer. Not even getting into his redesign.
Vergil was either incredibly boring, or incredibly cringey, and the plot twist was so obvious it wasn't even funny.
The villains were super stupid and poorly designed, with equally cringey dialogue.
I do LIKE THIS GAME A LOT! And I believe they should do a sequel. But people are mad at anything… imagine how great would be this SEQUEL COMPARED TO WHAT THE OG HAD!

The rebooted story suck. But the fighting system was pretty good aside from the devil trigger. I think some was even pass on to DMC5.

Didn't care for the characters or story but the gameplay was pretty fun and fluid and the soundtrack has some bangers

I honestly liked the game more for its gameplay. It was easy to ignore that it was a reboot because the developers weren't trying to hide it.
They should have made it a spinoff and called Donte and Vergin “David” and “Vincent”

Actually they planning a sequel to DmC: Devil May Cry. I guess Devil May Cry 5 proved it. But I still hate Nero in DMC4 and DMC5 with a fiery passion.
