How do you feel about NieR: Automata Dad?
Automata would be a 10/10 for me if 9s was literally anything else. He genuinely ruins this entire game for me I hate him more than any character I've ever seen in a video game.
Why are all Automata videos like "Yoko Taro is such a genius. He placed this ball hair in this specific part of this obscure location and he knew players wouldn't find it and when you find it, it reminds you of how as humans we are meant to fail but we get up again and again. This ball hair fills us with hope and reminds us of our humanity and makes us question our existence. When I first saw this ball hair my world view changed, it changed me as a person. Automata is such a masterpiece."

Honestly seeing the acclaim Nier Automata gets is always cathartic to me. When I said that Nier was one of my favorite games of all time, Automata is one of the only games I will say is better, in some way I will definitely say that if you look through out Taro's career from Drakengard to this game, then Nier Automata is the official payoff for him. The game is Yoko Taro's magnum opus, intentional or not. And the shocking thing is that Nier Automata is a game that realistically shouldn't exist given how it is a sequel to a game that is a spin off of another game based on its joke ending and those two games were admittedly not very successful, hell I would actually even say that Nier might have bankrupted Cavia given how shortly after they had no choice but to be bought out by a whole other company shortly after. Like I am just glad that some higher up at Square Enix seems to have a lot of faith in Taro because otherwise this masterpiece wouldn't have been released.
typing this at the soundtrack section but i remember going back and listening to the ost after I finished the game and in the Japanese version of weight of the world, they vocalist starts crying. that shit broke me. it was a beautiful song the first time I heard it during the credits but after paying attention, the fact that they chose to keep the take is truly incredible.

While i will agree automata is TECHNICALLY a better game… i like the original more. It just resonated with me more. I just loved the characters and wanted to know them and hang out with them. While i enjoyed the characters in Automata, i just couldn't care about them as much.
I just live the grimdark setting. Nier Automata is a prime example of grimdark done right in my opinion

I really dislike playing as 9s. I don't like his gameplay, combat or anything like that and not as big of a fan of his character either. Also I think calling it a masterpiece is abit of a stretch 🤷

my personal comment is what you said about the novel sections really stuck with me. because i do think you’re right. and i also went out of my way to pull up the VODs for 9S’ voice actor playing this game because i wanted to hear the novel. but somehow i don’t know if i would have appreciated hearing it voiced as much if i didn’t have to go out of my way for it. does that make sense?

Am i the only one who thinks this gane is overrated? Ive read things like masterpiece being used, and the only thing that pops in my head is that some is having a laugh at my expense. Could be one of those situations that im in the tiny minority, but i found this shit. Nice set pieces, but this looks and feels like it belongs in the PS2 era, controls and character movement in all.
at the end of the day why couldnt the pods explain to 9s what happened to 2b so that 9s would like chill towards a2. the pods had communication and it was logical to explain the situation since they are programmed to help their host. they even mentioon their tries to keep a2 and 9s apart

Every time I see videos about Automata, I'm confronted with the fact that, apparently, everyone except me destroys the tank in the Amusement park despite the fact that it's not even hostile in the first place
I love your explanations but as someone that completed the whole game (with the awards and all that stuff) on the hardest difficulty, watching you not perma shoting with the pod gave me an anxiety attack
No mention of jnique nicole?? She also lent vocals to the soundtrack!! And she sang weight of the world in english. She did a magnificent job. Disappointed. 😢
You skipped over way way way too many details. It was good and I get it’s a retrospective but damn you left out all the good shit. Nothing about zianna or the original no. 2 or no. 9 units either.

The real gameplay is to listen to the essential dialogues that explains the story of the game while the player is fending for their lives. I don't know what I heard, i had to watch videos to understand the story.
36:05 "A2 attacks us …" She actually doesn't. Like with the Amusement Park tank, if you don't actually initiate an attack she'll just stand there, which is pretty amusing to see.
Oof, you messed up the sound. The voice is very quiet, but when bits of the game play, i almost died. 🙁

I found myself thinking a lot about Soma while watching this. Never was able to fully decide where I stood on the continuity theory aspect of that game, but in this world it seems to be assumed as the truth. But can we assume that? Or can it apply here but not there? If so, what makes android memories different from human memories? Could an android's memories be uploaded into a new body without the old one dying?

9S is easily the most boring to play with lol you only get one attack and no combos to use.
I actually put the game down for a few months during my route B playthrough. Came back and Route C and D I couldn't put it down
