We compare the visuals and performance of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana for the Nintendo Switch to the PS4 version. Which version looks and performs best in your opinion?

  1. look at the palm shadows at the end at 6:05 for example.. the switch is much more blurred in the shadows.
and just the frame rates on the ps4 are much better

  2. The only difference is that PS4 runs at 60fps and Switch at 30fps.
The graphics look identical, just in some little details PS4 is sharper, but those are minimal.
Uh! And the shadowing. 3:07 Switch has no shadowing nor perspective focusing.
Wait, the Switch version is 720p 4:35 you can definitely tell in the grass. PS4 is 1080p
I’m watching this on my cellphone, that’s why I didn’t tell before.

  3. I dont see much of a difference , Im getting this game today 🙂 Im currently playing FFX HD (trying for the platinum -120h )

  4. best game i ever played, but i dont understand Falcom at this Point. For the PS4 they ported this psvita game to 1080p at 60fps, and for the Switch they scaled down to 720p at 30fps with some texture issues.

  5. I don’t care what system it’s on, it’s an immediate purchase if you like JRPGs. Best in a while. Ys is such a painfully underrated series.

  6. To any hater and salt spreader… Even if… "if" PS4 looks better (and yeah graphics dsnt matter to ppl wo grew up with 8bits)… The Switch has one enormous advantage compared to the ps4… It can be played on the go, on the train, bus, toilet… It can be played anywhere… So who cares about graphics? True gamers don't.

  7. looks pretty much the same… the main difference is 30fps on the switch vs 60fps on the ps4.

  8. Game looks good but it doesn't look like it should be demanding at all. The ps4 version looks like what the Switch version could have handelled at 1080p 60fps and the ps4 version looks like it could have done more with the hardware. Bad engine or bad ports? I dunno, still a great game though.

  9. The aliasing looks terrible on Switch, and I'm playing on a 720p TV, which is close to the resolution of the game.

  10. the ps4 version is so much better.; too bad i quit team sony and joined up with nintendo due to the censorship stuff. i wish the switch port looked better but oh well

  11. I'm glad I'm not missing any real graphical fidelity by going to Switch. But I would've liked 60fps

  12. If you cannot see the differences in these versions then you are a really lucky person who can just sit and enjoy games in there purist form. FUN. Regardless of how it runs.

  13. If you get the Switch version, you're still getting a great game. I played the Switch version and had nothing that made me complain or want to stop playing.

The Switch version does come with some exclusive free DLC clothes and it does have Dual Audio

  14. I have a ps4 and switch. So could have got either version. Opted for the switch because given the choice, I often do as nothing beats being able to play a game on the bog.

I realised the graphics were bad but didn't let it ruin it, as it's a great game regardless. Seeing how buttery smooth the PS4 looks though has marred my experience with the game a little.

  15. I have no qualms about the switch version but I would of liked to see what the ruins looked like on the ps4. I'm at the ruins now on the switch and the scenery looks pixelated as do the dinosaurs.

  16. Thank you for making this video!!! I wanted to see the comparison since the switch has it on sale lowest its been…and really I'm impressed with how similar the details look on both consoles. That said, I can see the slight frame rate difference and the stutters of the switch. It wouldn't make that a deal breaker for me 🙂 but I do think I will wait for the ps4 version to go on sale instead. Hobestly it's just impressive that the switch can run things like this, skyrim and the witcher with such nice graphics 🙂 even if it takes a small dive with the frames

  17. The only reason I'm picking Switch is because the Included DLC costumes
    Help justify the $80 price
I could give a crap about FPS
As long as it doesn't look like 16 or 32 bit retro games I'll be fine
And Current gen or not it's still meant to have portable as it's main point so obviously it won't match or outperform a home console
Unless we get pso2 Aether network in the future that's simply the reality

  18. awesome game but it gave me motion sickness on switch in both handheld and docked because the background textures not great and mixed with the speed of the character movement and camera, makes me want to throw up.

  19. So the frame rate is a bit lower and shadow effects aren’t as good on the Switch. That’s pretty negligible once you start playing and get into it.

  20. Looks like crap on both. I'm glad I'm not missong much by owning it on the switch lol

  21. I've been playing it in handheld on the switch OLED with the HORI split full controller. Sure the framerate is lower than the PS4 but being able to play this on the go, or in the breakroom at work is great!

  22. Funny enough, the anti-aliasing (or lack of) on the Switch version make the graphics look crispier, and that's great in my book!

  23. Switch looks better than PS4 to me, PS4 looks to be adding WAY too much TAA, makes the image look blurred.

  24. It’s my first ys game, and I got it on the switch because it was not available on the PlayStation 4 when I got it ^..^

  25. After 6 months I'm back where I finally got around to playing Ys 8 on Switch and I can say without a doubt this comparison is massively misleading. Walkrun around any outside area on the island that is even slightly open and the whole image has a horrendous shimmering, grainy appearance caused by either no TAA or mipmaps being removed from the diffuse textures to save space on the Switch cartridge. Absolutely horrible appearance that will start to hurt your eyes (literally) very quickly. Buy on PS4 instead.

  26. hope switch 2 is backwards compatible and it has Xbox Series X type perfomance boost.

I dont mind Switch port visuals but gameplay/perfomance/framerate boost would be sweet.
If Switch 2 has perfomance boost i stay with Switch port but if not im goona get PS5 port when PS5 Zpro comes out

  27. The last Ys I played was Ys4, but wow they outdid the music on this one.
In my 40s, I should be working, but I'm going to get this.
