Publisher lied about Control Ultimate Edition

Control and 505 Games are back in the news because as it turns out, giving everyone a free upgrade for pretty much the same game they already bought – isn’t that hard after all. That’s right, originally the publisher of Control, 505 Games, claimed that if you wanted the cool new updates for the game you would need to pony up another sixty bucks to make it happen. They sited that Control Ultimate Edition is more or a less completely new build so it would be too hard to just give everyone the improvements for free via something like Xbox’s smart delivery. However, someone flipped a switch and ended up giving tons of Control owners the Ultimate Edition for free anyway… Soooo chaos ensued and now we have a great story to report today, right here, on Inside Gaming Daily!

    Sometimes additional content does modify the base code significantly enough that it could effectively create a new product to maintain, that's certainly possible.
    That would leave out users who haven't updated the game to the current version, where that version includes paid DLC.
    However that would make everyone who owns all the content eligible for cross-gen, regardless of what SKU it was sold under.
    There's no technical "blocker" that would effect any complete version of the game. The stores certainly aren't going impose one.
    We can see it's possible upgrade PS4 users, and obviously Microsoft is friendly to Control being cross-gen, that's their party line.
    Yeah, fishy…
