  1. Having now seen both streams this was a super close race. I how however feel though they got pretty much to the same point at the end, Fauna actually defeated the iron pig so that would almost declare her the winner. Two things. Gura literally was at a bonfire at this point but kept going up the stairs than down, and how the actual heck did Fauna make it this far without using the lock on feature? Nice making the game more difficult than it would have to be. Given no time restraint, and a little more finesse Fauna could actually get pretty far in this. Suffering aside this was a super fun, and entertaining stream Collab. Would love to see Gura and Fauna compete again.

  2. If they do a rematch, I hope they go DS3 or Sekiro. Both are a lot more intuitive in world design and gameplay. Though I suppose Sekiro in particular would be an issue with how long it might take them to learn the rhythm of it. I’d suggest Bloodborne, but idk if they have access to playstations and I don’t know how fussy they are about framerate. Elden Ring could work, but due to it’s openness they’d need a fair amount of backseating to make it a reasonable race in a 2 hour stream.

Also in defense of why people like these games, it’s like cycling. When you first start, it might be scare, you feel clumsy and exposed, you’re scared to fall and you might be fully focused on just maintaining balance. Once you learn it though, you’ll start noticing how fun it can be, how fast you can go, all the great scenery you’ll be able to see and when you do fall again you don’t blame the bike anymore.

Also Elden Ring removes the issue of having to fight enemies again after dying to a boss as most of them have respawn points right outside the arena

  3. "Should we let chat backseat us?"
    Chat: NO
Also Chat: Immediate and constant backseating

  4. It was a fun stream, but the Racing aspect made the stuff between the Bosses more painful. Try to take your time and yes farm a few levels if you want. One of the game's main mechanics is to find your optimal fun build 😀

  5. Ah, yes. Speedrunning a game you don't even understand or know where to go is definitely a good idea. Man, I Love Fauna

  6. My two favorite vtubers playing my favorite game franchise. Thanks for the stream! It was awesome and you two did really well for your first time!

  7. This was so much fun! Thank you for suffering for our entertainment

  8. Can’t believe my oshi lost to the blue one… Fauna really is washed, I’m devastated. This was a lot of fun, I hope more streams come of this, be it Dark Souls or otherwise.

And not to prove them right and be one of Those Commenters, but I do think Fauna would get into this pretty well in a normal playthrough. Or maybe I’m just hopeful and want more Holo mems to get into these games.

  9. cool stream, really hope you get a chance to play a souls game in a non blind speedrun context at some point aswell

  10. The challenge was fun, I hope it didn't lower the chance of luring Fauna into Fromsoft games. When first time playing DS, it gets much harder the faster you try to go. Until you familiarize with the area and can find shortcuts/rush/optimize.
It was my first controller game, and for how tough it was to get used to a new input device, it was very fun. DS rewards you for the attention and calm exploration more than almost any other series.

  11. this stream was really good I hope you keep playing souls likes

theses games, at the start, are frustrating by themselfs, but deciding too compete against someone definitely makes them worst

  12. Ideally your first run of a souls game should be the one where you take it slow and get into the rhythm of things, both of you did incredibly well considering the time pressure. (I'd expect ~5 hours to bell gargoyles for a new player typically)
Also don't worry about 'cheesing' things, the ways to kill things and get around problems that you see are intended, it takes looking stuff up and deeper game knowledge to actually cheese things.
Also also, Elden Ring is easier than Dark Souls most of the time, as it gives you more freedom to go around things and try different approaches.

  13. I hope fauna doesn't get discouraged from playing other souls like games, Ds1 is great but it doesn't make justice to the newer games.

  14. this is not something i ever expected to see…even if this is the only Fromsoftware gameplay we get, this was legendary

  15. It was really fun watching your first experience with a Souls game and I was really impressed by how you discovered and reasoned through all the game's baroque mechanics and cryptic hints. You have a really good sense for the combat; the "poke the posterior" tactic is a time-honored Souls tradition for large bosses like Asylum and Taurus Demon, and you were great at timing your heals in between attacks. For me Dark Souls 1 has a lot of frustrating parts that were improved in later Souls games, the long distance between bonfires and bosses being a big one. The later games are still tough but they feel a lot less punishing and unfair. To me the main appeal of Souls games is the feeling of accomplishment when you overcome a difficult challenge, like beating a hard boss or getting through a tough area. But there were definitely times in DS1 where that reward didn't feel sufficient because the process of getting there felt so frustrating and cheap. I think you have a lot of potential as a Souls player, so it would be fun to see more, but I understand the experience isn't for everyone. Either way, great job here, it was a really fun time!

  16. Ah, I remember playing Dark Souls for the first time, while having muscle memory for a completely different game. The control scheme kind of makes sense, but it's so very different from conventional setups.

  17. Thank you for the stream Fauna. I Hope you continue the Dark Souls playthrough. Sure it is a hard game, but the feeling when you overcome that struggle is surreal.

  18. This was so much fun, I’d love to see you play more or do another race! It was really fun to see you learn the game, and it was such a tight race!

  19. Thanks for the stream Fauna, it was so much fun. Your playthrough reminds me a lot of my first one haha. This really is a game where you have to take your time and explore everywhere.
I hope you and Gura do some more streams like this, it was a great time.

  20. I swear it's more fun once you figure out what you're doing.
I'll pray for that rematch to actually happen

  21. Fauna might be onto something about the masochist thing when it comes to anything Dark Souls related. Despite that I still want to try Elden Ring one day… maybe. But that aside, it's nice seeing you stream with Gura again, even if it meant a little bit of suffering on your's and Gura's and basically everyone else's end.

  22. omg this was hilarious to watch 😭 would love to see more forays into the souls world!

  23. i feel like a horrible person because i've always wanted to see Fauna play Dark Souls, but not like this

  24. for the love of souls player, please teach Fauna to use light attack+target locks! lmao

  25. Here's a idea to suggest… Elden Ring seamless co-op mod… With PVP enabled.
The challenge: Complete as many dungeons/caverns/subterran instances within 4 hours from the start of the race. Beating a area gives 1 point. Beating 'main story' bosses and 'optional bosses' gives bonus points (lets say bonus is 'recommended boss level to fight them effectively'). Killing the other player in PVP steals 10% points from them. So if you kill a boss that is worth 25 character levels, you get 25 points easily.

Better yet, do this with several HoloEN members. You may co-op and earn 1 point if you help the host player beat an area or a boss.

This is because of open world nature lets players go anywhere, and if you can go anywhere, then technically you can 'invade' one another exclusively using the PVP built into seamless co-op?

All these areas you complete gives goodies that helps you get stronger too.

  26. I would love to see Fauna play this or Elden Ring without a time limit. Souls games are all about exploration and taking it slow so I feel like a speedrun wasn't the best introduction to the series

  27. Fauna: "I couldn't imagine people playing this game for fun in their free time."
Me who platted all of them: "Hah! Right?! Imagine that…"

  28. maybe it's not a good idea to make your first playthough of dark souls a race since the game is about taking your time lmao
