Life is Strange 2 is Soulless

Life is Strange 2 makes me appreciate that other games exist.

  1. Hey man, you missed a few bits of info that explain the plot decisions a bit better but i really dont blame you with how bland and boring this game is. Overall great video and you hit the nail on the head most of the time.

Also why do you look like Harrier Du Bois?

  2. The only thing that I did like about this game was how your actions/ relationship with Daniel affected how he used his power. I did think that was an interesting dynamic. Probably what I disliked the most was the politics- I’m liberal AF and I got annoyed with how over-the-top it was. It was very apparent that it came out during the Trump years. French developers, we know we have our issues over here. You don’t have to stick your nose in it.

  3. Nice commentary. Yeah I couldn't connect with these characters either. The story was too on-the-nose political, with a severe lack of nuance, and Daniel was a nightmare. I get they were trying to do something different, but the story was so erratic and unbelievable that it just didn't stick for me. I cared more about Chris than I did Sean and Daniel and he was barely shown, which says a lot. You'd think that after the build-up of 'Captain Spirit' prior to LiS2's release Chris would have been a much more central figure, but no. The game had bad writing, bad execution of ideas, and very little charisma. Why people defend it so is beyond me.

  4. For me, fundamentally, this doesn’t make sense. This story was written extremely well. Having a story that has a much darker plot was a great decision made by the developers because it them to create something that’s new and exciting and make their players feel emotions being a filmmaker myself this would be a perfect movie. If it was, it’s a game. And on my top five list of best games played right under firewatch.

  5. Lmao this guy says he’s giving an objective analysis when he clearly just hates this game, most likely because he’s comparing it to LiS1. There are sooo many issues with LiS but somehow he just ignores them because it’s one of his favorite games but every small detail bugs him from LiS2 because he just doesn’t like it. Stop trying to come off as “objective” when you clearly are not

A lot of these complaints are addressed in the game. For example the game explains why the cop shot the dad. He was inexperienced and jumpy and his partner was absent so he felt threatened without backup.

Chloe is a one dimensional character. Her entire personality is that her father died and best friend moved away so she’s angry at the world. She shows zero character development. She’s an angry, rebellious teen at the beginning and all the way through the end. She also got Max in difficult situations a lot, sneaking into Wells office and stealing money or getting into a potentially violent confrontation with Frank

This is one of the worst analysis videos I’ve ever seen of LiS.

  6. I love this video. In college I wrote a paper on the flawed use of race in Life is Strange 2 and it was so nice to see so many of the points I discussed in the paper echoed here. In short, as a Latino, this game pisses me the fuck off. The depiction of Latinos verges on Dark Continent levels of stereotypical. The forced drug dealer storyline, the omnipresence of “needing to return to Mexico for safety,” the Latino protag that is degraded at every turn by white people, and the most obvious — story about Latinos being fugitives of the law…like what the fuck??? I’d understand if all these narrative beats existed in a vaccume, but the game is actively trying to to comment on racism and using Latino characters as vehicles for that commentary, so the inclusion of such stereotypical depictions is made so much worse— almost as if the game writers were trying to create what in their mind represented the most common version of what a Latino American is: a fugitive, in one way or another forced to deal drugs, completely helpless, and in a cosmic spiral toward eventual return to Mexico…. I’ll end by saying this: despite being one of the biggest minorities in the US, Latinos have yet to receive any good or empowering representation in popular media, and its games like this that show why…because the country still views Latinos as this semi-criminal/completely-hopeless monolith— and it makes me sick.

  7. It’s terrible how much children are so disregarded. It makes my stomach hurt. A lot of people just say that Daniel is so annoying during episode 3. Yes the father of BOTH of you is dead. Sean no longer has someone older to hold onto but he has the people at the camp. Who are older. Older than Daniel. They smoke and do things Daniel can’t. It may seem annoying how Daniel is mad Sean doesn’t talk to him and doesn’t let him smoke. Daniel does have someone to hold onto, but is disregarded. Of course Sean also needs some form of therapy and help, but Daniel with Sean, doesn’t now. He sits alone at the lake. There is a TERRIFYING feeling of abandonment. It feels terrifying cause I’ve been there to. No one loves you or your simply too annoying or to much to be dealt with. Of course Daniel wants to smoke, of course he wants to be with the older kids. It’s so simple why, simply because there’s a want of acceptance. A feeling to prove himself that’s he’s worthy to be cared for. That maybe if he smokes, Sean will like him better. If he tries to get along with the older people, he might be accepted. There’s just a want to be taken. To be known as an equal because if you aren’t, there’s no use existing. The thing is with the hole heist thing, is that Daniel wasn’t doing it just for pleasure. He actually wants to do it for a type of good. A good for Sean, and himself. It’s not in a bad way, in his eyes. Even if someone hasn’t stole, that doesn’t stop someone from wanting to do “good”. Though that good May not be good, it’s still a good. Maybe only for them, but it’s still a good in their eyes. Daniel doesn’t care wether it’s bad to or for other people, people for Daniel is Sean. Also blaming Daniel for wanting to explore a room of a MOTHER he NEVER MET? ya that will cause problems but you cant blame him for wanting to know about a guardian. Especially an absent one. For the part about racism, ya it doesn’t make sense. They don’t explain why it’s bad. They don’t explain why people are racist. Because you can’t. Racism is so weird. As a Hispanic Person who has been oppressed, the racism is VERY REALISTIC in how the people are portrayed. You don’t get a reason for why these white people are racist because there is no reason, they have no reason, yet they feel the need to justify their racism. You see racist stupid idiot people through correct eyes. That they are wrong. Racism is very weird. There is no logic behind thinking that one race is evil simply because they are that race. It doesn’t make sense. (Also for the voice acting max’s voice acting is pretty terrible to. When sacrificing Arcadia bay when max hugs Chloe she just “iM GOnnA MIss YOU SO mUch.” Don’t even sound like she’s crying.) Sean isn’t strong. Agreed. But what’s so significant about his character is that even though he’s not physically strong, he still pushes to get what he wants. He comes back with bruises. He wins because he doesn’t run. Ya he may have fought the guy in the first episode at the beginning, but that was a HIGH SCHOOLER. For pacing, okay? What are you supposed to do when sitting out in a forest while cops look for you and no access to technology. Nothing really.

  8. That was the best game I ever played yk games like this I love Sean and Daniel and I cried so hard when all that story ended that’s was the most beautiful game I can’t describe it it change my perspective on life

  9. You must be clout chasing to think LIS2 is bad 😂. You’re probably white and never understood the struggle of being an immigrant or homeless. Being forced into an environment where you have nothing and everyone’s against you.

Every man who actually struggled and made mistakes in life will relate to Sean in some way. Which as a man myself for me the themes hit harder in LIS2 than in LIS1. Can’t really relate to girl drama but to each his own 😂

  10. It’s my first time playing it I’m on episode 2 and I’m just finding it slow and boring and long

  11. I could not agree with you less. Life is Strange 2 is my favorite in the series, EASILY.

  12. as much as i think the first LIS was perfect, i enjoyed the second one more. idk if im biased but i got way more attached to daniel and sean then i did towards chole and max

  13. I really wish instead of this story

We went to the party, something bad happened(idk what) he gained a power (idk what), and then we got a similar story like life is strange.

I know I clearly don’t have a lot of details, but maybe they can expand on an idea like this.

  14. I absolutely love LiS 1 and before the storm. True colors was super mid, but LiS 2 disappointed me so much. Literally infinitely worse than lis1 is every conceivable way.

  15. The church episode was so bad. Completely artificial drama, instead of asking Daniel how he's been and sitting down to talk he goes DANIEL WE ARE LEAVING RIGHT NOW COME HERE.
And the most moustache twirling willing ever, though all the bad people were so laughable.

  16. The mental gymnastics fans of this game come up with to justify the bad story is mindboggling dude.
