Control Ultimate Edition on PS5 brings out the full potential of the game with faster loading times, a new 60fps performance mode, and a ray tracing graphics mode.

Control: Ultimate Edition takes the already excellent storytelling of 2019’s Control and brings it to next-gen tech on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. And it just looks so good. But you don’t need to just take our word for it, you can check it out for yourself.

In the video above, we showcase how Control on PS4 compares with Control: Ultimate Edition on PS5. We first test the game’s loading speeds, putting Control on both base PS4 and PS4 Pro up against the Ultimate Edition on PS5. After that, we dive into some side-by-side gameplay comparisons. Don’t worry, if you’ve yet to play Control, you won’t find any major spoilers here. We just go through the first 20 minutes of the game’s campaign.

In GameSpot’s Control review, Peter Brown writes, “It’s not often that a game invades my thoughts the way Control has. I’m at the point where I want to consume every last thing it has to offer. And if I’m honest, it also makes me want to go back and replay Remedy’s past games, too. Sure, it’s a faulty metroidvania in some respects, but there are so many exceptional qualities afoot that Control handily deflects any momentary ire.”

On top of that, Phil Hornshaw adds that the Ultimate Edition, with “its graphical add-ons, the stability and performance enhancements, and the inclusion of all of Control’s DLC,” is “the best way to experience Control–and the PS5’s haptics really add an extra layer of intensity to a game that already feels great to play.”

Control is available for Xbox One, PS4, Luna, PC, and Switch, while the Ultimate Edition is available for Xbox Series X|S and PS5.

  1. Not everyone was running their ps4 with a stock hdd. I upgraded my ps4 pro to a 2tb ssd. So, I think you should of did it with the ssd as well.

  2. Control was an under appreciated gem In my opinion. It has gorgeous graphics and physics system, fun gameplay, intriguing story ( specially if you're into the SCP universe) and you feel powerful while playing. Great game.

  3. 60fps is the way forward. The glossy environments allready give off Lot of reflection anyway and once you play 60 you'll never want to touch 30fps again.

  4. There is so little difference. Just faster and a little more beter color rendering.

  5. I occasionally die in this game jus falling of edges… if I did that and had to wait a minute on the ps4 or xbox one to respond id just stop playing lol. Especially in some boss fights when it takes 2 or 3 plays to understand the mechanics. This game needs to be played on next gen or not at all lol

  6. Swap the HDD for SSD in the PS4 Pro and its no point in getting a PS5 right now, wait for the PS5 Pro because the difference is performance not really the graphics

  7. Other than the loading times, I don’t think it’s worth it to get the next gen version

  8. Not much difference to the PS4 Pro. Loading times faster and, wow, a little bit of ray tracing… PS5 still hasn't taken my breath away. Let's hope we get some games this year that show off what these new consoles are actually capable of.

  9. I want to play this game so bad now on ps4 but im just gonna wait even tho in my country restock can take until june

  10. How is the framerate on base PS4? I heard it was bad at launch, maybe better after all the patches?

  11. Gamespot sucking at shooting game rears it’s ugly head again!🤦‍♂️😖

  12. why not offer a middle ground type of setting where you get raytracing and 6fps like in the new spider man game. at this point in times with how powerful these systems are and supposed 8k compatibly if it cant handle doing 4k 60 how can it handle 8k 30.

  13. This game runs and plays million times better on next gen. No more clunky controls or slurpy frame drops. Just a constant 60 FPS and really smooth graffics

  14. Got this as I was looking for something to play on my PS5, what a game! I never understood the hype around 60fps until I played this in performance mode, that buttery smooth gameplay over the RT!

  15. The game is actually faster to boot than 7 secs on ps5. Only the first time you load the game it takes 7 secs and that is because it needs that time to show the necessary logos. If you close the game and boot it again it takes like 4 secs to load

  16. Ima play this game again from the beginning when i get my hands on a ps5.

  17. Is the graphics the same on both?. I can't tell because my mobile screen doesn't support higher then 1080p.

  18. It still looks good in old consoles but the frame rate and fidelity increase on ps5 is very noticeable

  19. It'd be asking for waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to fuckin much to have you speed up the playback time for loading, wouldn't it? Cause it artificially makes your video longer….no doubt that had nothing to do with it.

  20. 4:55 when she picks up the gun, I can’t Unhear the far cry new dawn outpost liberation sound, listen closely

  21. I don't care about better graphics but I do care about frame rates load times this game is a great game but the PS4 version makes it hard to play spent most my time dying and loading so much loading 😭😭😭

  22. Playing Control on PS5 is such a massive improvement over playing it on PS4, especially if you only had the base PS4 model like I did. I used to hate doing missions in the game that required me to travel to multiple places, because on PS4 that meant spending several minutes just staring at loading screens. On the PS5 however, it loads so quickly that I often don't even have time to check my phone.
And that's just the load times, the performance improvement when going from PS4 to PS5 is staggering. Whereas the game on PS4 was frequently dropping frames and stuttering during heavy combat and/or while destroying the environment, on PS5 these drops are gone and the game consistently runs at an incredibly smooth 60fps.

  23. Lowkey control was kinda unplayable at times on the PlayStation 4 mass frame drops when fast traveling to place but oh well imma replay it on the ps5 some day
