Only a year after Pokemon X and Y propelled the series into the third dimension, the core generation 3 games were finally given the remake treatment by Game Freak to mostly positive reviews.

Despite taking an entirely new approach to various story elements and many of its iconic characters, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire did a stellar job of translating many of the original’s best features onto a brand new adventure for the Nintendo 3DS.

However, despite being the best selling remakes in the franchise many feel like the new direction taken by the series as well as a much easier difficulty setting resulted in shallow impostors that couldn’t overcome the brilliance of Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald’s adventure.

So why are ORAS the most polarizing remakes in the series? Is is just old nostalgia refusing to die? And is there too much water? Well enjoy this review of Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire to find out!

  1. This actually came out on time for once?! Thanks to everyone who watches these and I’m excited to keep putting out content consistently again!

While I have your beautiful eyeballs reading this rotund comment, I have an important question for you. When it comes to reviews of the Generation 7 games do you think I should combine Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon into Sun and Moon for one giant Gen 7 video, or give USUM their own treatment similar to how I did ORAS? I’m curious to know how you guys feel about USUM and if you think they stand out enough on their own!

  2. 13:00 I'M HERE AFTER BDSP. People wanted faithful remakes? you got them.
its almost like the "hardcore" pokemon fans got what they asked for and still got angry in the end. actually insane

  3. I honestly would rather have these remakes than the bland, lazy Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl remakes. It makes you appreciate the slight differences and innovations from R/OR and S/AS. Fuck giving me a "faithful remake", give me new with mostly familiar elements. And National Dex, and post-game Legendaries. This game is fucking awesome!

  4. Amazing video, wish you were right about the gen 4 remakes lol. As someone who was the perfect age for gen 3 releases i love the points you made about changing story plots. All things considered tho i do love these remakes and am currently playing thro them for the 3rd time in my downtime. Thanks for helping me pass some time this morning loved the video

  5. big ORAS mistakes: no Battle Frontier, again way too easy Exp Curve with Exp Share ON (+free Mega Latios/-as)
otherwise it has many positives – Soaring, Dex Nav, Mauville City/Sea Mauville, Delta Episode, Mirage Spots…
not HGSS and BW2 level but a pretty solid remake

  6. Personally, I think ORAS is the best 3ds mainline Pokémon game. It isn’t as linear and controlling as SM/USUm and more pleasing look compared to the washed out colors of X and Y.

  7. Love these games & loved how they expanded the story & expanded the dex to include all of the pre evolutions & evolutions of mons that were in the og dex. To me it would feel very wrong for them to have roselia without having access to budew or roserade till post game & the fact that they gave wally gallade makes a lot of sense

  8. Sadly, BDSP ended up being soulless remakes that added nothing to Sinnoh. I would’ve loved a retelling of Sinnoh, with fleshed out characters and modern amenities.

  9. personally, i think ORAS incorporated mega evolution the wrong way, and SM/USUM did it right. relagating it to the post game was definitly the right call, and i think ORAS would have been more welcomed had it done that.

  10. Gen 3 was definitely some of the best games if not the best, definitely up there with black/white 1 and 2.

  11. Oh look, a video game reviewer with a solidly large viewer base defining a remake of a game as having the same overall narrative and themes in the plot as the original.

Perhaps the diehard defenders of the ending of a certain video game featuring a spiky blonde guy with a big ass sword could take a step back and realize that never putting in the comically meta dementor time ghosts in the first place would maybe NOT have made it a simple remaster as they’ve been claiming. HMMMMM.

…….sorry ‘bout that. Thanks for letting me vent lol. At least ORAS’ reimagining of the original games executed the evil teams better, as you pointed out. Although I will say… Wally’s battle theme is… extremely underwhelming. That may be an unpopular opinion, but the loop is incredibly short and repetitive. Wally deserved better.

  12. Its funny because this game felt close to the manga. Not close enough but satisfactory for what we had at the time. Ruby(Brendan), and Sapphire (May) were actually romantically involved in the manga just one example.

  13. I will say in my opinion oras doesn't capture that nostalgia that hgss and frlg captured about their origional counterparts, but at the same time they are really good. I still prefer the gen 3 games simply because I like the older aesthetic that I played as a kid, but I like oral for other reasons
