The legendary fighters in the THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV have made their stateside debut thanks to a partnership between SNK PLAYMORE and Atlus U.S.A. The vaunted fighting game series, which first made its debut 1994, is entering a new evolution with THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV thanks to series-first 3D graphics and debuting exclusively on the PlayStation 4 console. THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV is now available.

THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV Feature Details:

• 3D Evolution: All 50 fighters, movesets and more are rendered in full 3D graphics that preserves the essence of KOF’s visual style but updates it with a whole new dimension.

• The Best Refinement since KOF ’98: Through extensive playtesting and balancing, the controls have been streamlined, and the Combo and Max Mode mechanics have been overhauled to create the most competitive fighter in SNK’s history.

• The KOF Saga Continues: There’s a robust single-player storyline where several years have passed since the previous KOF tournament. Now a worldwide business, the global KOF will decide who is the strongest as both individuals and companies with their own ambitions have come to compete. Players compete against CPU-controlled opponents to unlock the storyline.

• The Best Roster Yet: There are 50 fighters total, with 31 returning from previous entries into the KOF series, and 19 brand new characters. All 50 characters will be available at the game’s launch.

• Revamped Online Experience: THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIVhas devoted a lot of development time to improving the game’s netcode for vastly improved online gameplay. KOF XIV uses the PS4’s online architecture to have a whole host of online conveniences, from spectating to saving replay/battle data, and having a single online KOF XIV profile to connect with friends.

  1. Graphically, it seems like it downgrades just as much as it upgrades. Looks just as bad as before, but in a slightly different way.

  2. Ahora todos aquellos que criticaban al juego por sus gráficos pueden tragarse sus palabras… Bien hecho, SNK.

  3. expected one of the before/afters to show bigger breasts. disappointed 🙁

  4. Now just bring the game to PC with all these improvements and things will be all good.

  5. same good ol' gameplay, now with a little better graphics so you can stop your bitching now!!

  6. See? FU to who say "oh but graphics sucks" you see damn mortals?? Our support helped SNK for THIS! Remember it: SNK it's not Capcom!

  7. Wish they'd add custom colors again if it's not too difficult to implement, such a great part of old KoFs.

  8. New shader for the engine, probably some tweaks to the lighting of the characters. Still not perfect, but it makes it look a lot better and a lot less flat.

  9. Goody! Now they look even more like living plastic mannequins!

  10. I really hate those steelbooks…but actually there is not a standard version in my country.

  11. You REALLY have to give SNK the hand here. They actually hear the cries for improvement of this game and slowly but surely they are changing it! Thank you SNK.

  12. Atlus never lets us down

Another reason to get a PS4 now, I have Persona 5 preordered, I got enough time to save up.

  13. Somehow new version of King looks off. She is the only one in this trailer looking better pre-update

  14. Add Chris, Yashiro and Shermie, and Vanessa, Mary and Yamazaki and your are gold

  15. Oh hey a significant free update to a game with a shoestring budget that launched with tons of content already. SFV devs should be fucking ashamed.

  16. Yoooooooo, Sylvie looks vicious after the update.
    JANUARY HERE WE COME!

Not that I had any issues with the visuals, (aside from Kyos face vs the cover art/portait), seeing a company respond to their audience is a great thing to see. Props to SNK for this one.

  17. While I consider the graphics extra credit compared to the gameplay, this looks really cool for an update! However, there is still one major problem: This game is PS4 exclusive, not released for Xbox One AND PS4! Atlus USA and SNK knows that netplay in Xbox Live is superior to the Playstation Network, as demonstrated with KOF XIII. And if it's true that the controls and/or combo inputs are streamlined in KOFXIV, that would have been a HUGE opportunity to bring half, if not most, of the Xbox players casual towards the fighting game genre into the fold. Why then would Atlus USA squander such opportunity with a PS4 exclusive? That decision doesn't make sense…
