“The Last of Us Part II is a 2020 action-adventure game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 4. Set five years after The Last of Us (2013), the game focuses on two playable characters in a post-apocalyptic United States whose lives intertwine: Ellie, who sets out in revenge for a murder, and Abby, a soldier who becomes involved in a conflict between her militia and a religious cult. The game uses a third-person perspective; the player must fight human enemies and cannibalistic zombie-like creatures with firearms, improvised weapons, and stealth.
Following some delays, The Last of Us Part II was released on June 19, 2020. It received critical acclaim, with praise for its gameplay, audio design, score, performances, characters, and visual fidelity, though its narrative and themes divided critics. It was the subject of review bombing on Metacritic, with some players criticizing the story and characters; discourse surrounding the game became adversarial. Part II is one of the best-selling PlayStation 4 games and the fastest-selling PlayStation 4 exclusive, with over four million units sold in its release weekend, and over ten million by 2022. It won more than 320 Game of the Year awards and received multiple other accolades from awards shows and gaming publications.” – Wikipedia/The Last of Us Part II

The portrayal of PTSD in this game feels so incredibly authentic, genuinely one of the best portrayals of PTSD I've seen in media, several people struggling with PTSD have said the same and also understand Ellie's desperation.
It makes sense why Ellie goes after Abby even if it's not the right thing to do. She suffered from severe trauma and PTSD, it progressively made her physical and mental health a lot worse over the course of those 1-2 years.
She tried to carry on with her life, but as we can see, she simply couldn't. Those thoughts never went away and in fact, only got worse and her health kept deteriorating.
Her decision to go after Abby is born of immense guilt. The PTSD coupled with the guilt has made her desperate to the point where the only thing she thinks that can help and free her is going after Abby. She's desperate for that closure, for release, she wants it to mean something, she wants the pain, the guilt, the trauma to stop and while this is not the right thing to do, this is what she thinks she needs for that release and closure, and it's so incredibly sad to see her this way, but I understand it
You apologise way to much. There´s no need. Love watching your playthrough. 🙂
Best wishes from Stockholm for your next episode, prolly the last one 🙂
Hello hanzelmi sorry I am late ⏰ it’s been one of those days you know what I mean when nothing goes right and you’re always in the wrong 😑 anyway enough about me how’s your day going well I hope.Another excellent episode of the last of us 2 with Abby and lev trying to find a boat 🛥️ to get back to the aquarium great episode hanzelmi thanks getting near the end now have a great weekend see you soon bye ❤
21:43 Your dodging in this fight was on point! 👌🏽
24:48 Lmao that realisation was great.
Poor Alice indeed.
Such good acting in this scene from Laura Bailey, and if you manage to empathise with Abby, you feel bad for her. I feel bad for Owen too, Owen was like the Jesse of the Salt Lake Crew in terms of morality and I grew to like him despite some of his flaws.
30:21 Yep, she does think it's Tommy, especially since she saw him at the Marina earlier that day
36:08 I completely understand how you feel, Tommy's "death" made me feel a mixed range of emotions as well, primarily anger. And then taking Ellie head on as Abby feels all kinds of wrong. I didn't want to fight Ellie at all, but players feeling conflicted was certainly an intentional choice, one that you'd hope would pay off narratively, and it does (I know you've already played the finale, but we'll discuss why in the finale).
But it's also understandable from Abby's perspective, same way as everyone's moral ambiguity is perfectly understandable in the game even if we may not like the choices because they feel like real people who make some bad (yet understandable) choices within the context of the narrative and it's what makes them exceptionally compelling characters.
In Abby's eyes, her and Owen let them live, and in return, Tommy shot Manny, and Ellie killed all the rest of her friends, including Owen and her pregnant friend (hence why she says "good" when Ellie says Dina's pregnant). It's this constant seemingly never-ending cycle, but she's ultimately able to break that cycle when Lev's presence knocks some sense into her and she lets them go again, even tho this time she had a reason to kill Ellie for killing her friends.
This story is hard to stomach because it makes you uncomfortable and constantly tests your emotional resolve and evokes all sorts of emotions, but it's also such an incredibly powerful narrative which incites your critical thinking and wants you to truly put yourself in the characters' shoes and understand their perspectives and perhaps even empathise with them
It's no wonder they are making a TV series out of the games it is just the perfect piece of storytelling that I have had the pleasure to play 🤘 your channel & talent shine through Hanna thank you for all the hard work and effort 🙏🫶🌺💜
I won't watch the video just yet, because I will play this game in the future BUT just wanted to drop a like and wish you all the best! ✨ Can't wait to binge watch your tlou playthroughs after my own. 🔥 Much love! 😘
Tommy's story is so tragic, arguably the most tragic out of all of them.
1:06:36 But you're absolutely right, it ultimately comes down to this. Tommy lost everything.
Initially, he wanted to move on and go back to Jackson. Whether he fully believed that himself, we don't know, but I'm sure he was also trying to protect Ellie's sanity.
Much like Ellie, Tommy is racked with immense guilt and trauma, since he's the one who first gave Joel's name away, and then was unable to protect him. He was also let go, so there's added survivor's guilt. I bet that guilt constantly haunted him.
But then something happens that further adds to his emotional turmoil and trauma; he loses Jesse, and we know Jesse looked up to both Tommy and Joel. He also lost an eye and he lost the ability to walk properly. Ultimately, he loses the ability to protect and serve his community like he always did. It was his new purpose, and now after losing Maria, he isn't left with anything.
So with all the guilt and trauma haunting him, he puts all of his desperation and hopes onto Ellie. It was totally unfair of him to unload that on Ellie and lash out at her, but it's understandable why he reacts the way he does. Much like Ellie, he's also desperate for closure and wants to be free of all the guilt and trauma.
It's heartbreaking to see Tommy's regression, but with all that we know about him, it's not hard to put the pieces together and see why he acts so differently in the farm scene. And it's been 1-2 years since the events of Seattle, so who knows what else he may have gone through in that time. I think that's some great subtle storytelling
Second time I have to say Bless you 29:18
You always sneeze at key moments in the game hahahahaha, that's so funny
53:40 Jesse Joel maybe?
Excellent episode as always, Hanna! Another incredibly heavy episode, but this entire game is incredibly heavy tbf. Emotional Damage Part II as you called it haha. And yes, this game really does toy with your emotions like no other, but it also hurts so good if it works on you as intended.
Also yes, that was Owen's boat, she managed to track it down when she got to Santa Barbara.
I'm sorry you've been sick, I hope you feel better now! As always, I loved hearing your insights at the end of the episode, and I absolutely cannot wait to hear your thoughts on the finale and the game as a whole, so I'm looking forward to it!
Absolute masterpiece of a confontation. That scene when Abby approaches the theater made me feel something I've never felt before, the anxiety of knowing she's going to face Ellie once inside. It legit changed me
Good choice of video cover. 😉
I will be very sad when you are done playing this game, it's my favorite game of all time and it's been great watching your play through and experiencing such conflicting emotions.
Eek the scene where u fight against Ellie 😬 intense! Your reaction tho😂 it’s a tricky scene! Love the scene with the house and sheep! Do you think the radio call was actually the ppl that kidnapped abby
Of course it was Owens boat that Abby and Lev were living on. After leaving the theater Abby had no place to go. All her friends were dead, most of the WLF were dead and the survivors would kill her on sight, and Owen had just gotten his boat done since he was talking to Mel about going to the island.
Seems like the ideal time and way to leave Seattle for a fresh start since there was nothing there for either of them any more anyway.
Did you forget about listen mode when you were fighting Ellie in the theater?🤔
I can't believe you are almost finished. I wish there were more games like these.
So now we see our dual narrative complete: Abby found her way back into the light, and Ellie plunged down into the dark abyss.
Just subscribed…👌
Levi wasn't hiding at the theater, the reason you didn't see him is because from Ellie's point of view he as irrelevant, as she was only focused on Abby
Why does nobody ever listen to the radio at the theater??? If they did they'd hear that clearly the WLF lost to the Seraphites after Isaac died. I'm like the only person on the planet who bothered to stay and listen to the WLF's crushing defeat over the radio.
Please stay healthy, Hanna! I love this game so much!🤘
Not gonna lie I was stoned when I first played the Abby vs Ellie part and it was probably the most intense video moment of my life. I’ve never felt such mixed emotions in a game. I hated having to fight Ellie but I wanted to progress the story. I loved every second of those feelings.
I really like this episode and am so happy that naughty dog's plan worked. They got me to hate Abby for most of the game and now I'm glad to see Abby actually happy while looking forward with Lev to a worthy and hopeful life with the fireflies on their nearly impossible but honorable mission to restore order. She stated multiple times that she only helped Lev and Yara for herself, to lighten the load of guilt, but after being with them she began to realize the senselessness of the choices she has made in the past. Now she has changed her path for good. Unfortunately, just like Joel, her actions have come back to haunt her and she is in the hands of monsters. Judgment, karma, life maintaining balance or whatever people want to call it, is random and sometimes deadly. Some never receive it in this realm, some get more than their share. The fact that she took another direction in her life cannot be undone. It will stand, no matter her end. Listen, I want to say some things about Ellie but I know I'm quite verbose and this is already long. I think I'll make a second comment so my remarks on each of them may at least have the appearance of being somewhat concise. I still love your tenderness throughout these events and also your courage and rational interpretations as you take this journey and share your thoughts along the way.
No need to worry about your plays…. Or sneezes 😅
You did great fighting the brute after that burned house!
Waaaaay better than your fight against that brute girl who stole our backpack, few chapters back.
Our journey is almost reaching the end now and I'll probably be gone when it does.
So… thanks for sharing your experience.
I really hope that you achieve your goals in life, whatever they are
Waiting impatiently for the next part!
