Dark Souls 2 is a good game guys, c’mon. Really though, give it a shot. It’s definitely different, but that’s okay. This game shouldn’t be ignored.

Dark Souls 2 ate my son

For the love of god play Vanilla Ds2, do NOT buy Scholar of the First Sin, it’s a night and day difference in terms of enjoyment
My first souls game was ds1, but I played less than 2 hours. After that I played and beaten ds2, it was quite good, but sotfs ruined ds2 for me, sotfs is the worst game ever made. Not that long ago I replayed ds2 sotfs (before ER release) to see if I still hate it and yes, it is trash. ds2 has great characters, zones might not be as intertwined as in ds1 but are pretty good in themselfs. Weapons break a little to easily, turn based combat is annoying, dlcs I only played on sotfs version and they are nightmare.
While I agree with most of your points about the good things about ds2, there really is no getting past the floaty gameplay. Souls are gameplay first RPGs and if the gameplay doesn’t feel good, all the other positives become a moot point
I love Dark Souls 2, Powerstancing alone makes the game so fun to try out new builds and whatnot. My biggest Pet Peeve are the constant "snipers" and I could have done without the Gutter area.
I like Dark Souls 2. It has a weak boss lineup but incredible build variety. It also introduced a lot of features and ideas that I like a lot, some of which even come back in other FromSoft games. Torches, power stancing, a good medium roll, huge Berserk swords, a respec npc, four ring slots, a useful inventory layout, ditching the blacksmith embers and weird boss weapon system from ds1, all of these changes are stuff that makes me glad DS2 exists.
Nope
i feel like if ds2’s areas were 2x as big with the same enemy counts we’d have elden ring
You know what was a missed opportunity for Scholar of the First Sin? They should've made one of the NG+ cycles the original version levels
If I hadn't played Demon Souls and Dark Souls prior to DS2 I probably wouldn't have interpreted this game as negatively as I did the first time I tried it. For me it was a huge letdown when I first attempted DS2 after DS. For me, it simply wasn't Dark Souls.
I would only come back to DS2 some time after DS3, and only because it was the only game in the Soulsborne series I didn't 100%. So, I literally had to swallow my pride, accept that Miyazaki wasn't part of this sequel (at least not present in the base game), and play it for what it was.
The game sort of grew on me and I did start to enjoy it for many reasons, but what I felt all the way was how most of the game looked rushed and visually unpolished. It's almost as if the game was created by different teams, each responsible for creating their part and in the end everything just got scrambled together. I felt this was extremely poorly done. Some parts looked good, some parts looked awful. Same with the enemies. The DLC content, the enemies, the bosses, all were what I'd expect from a Dark Souls game, while most of the remainder of the game looked cheap and badly composed.
There's no denying that if the entire game had the visuals of DLC content (SotFS) and they actually put effort in creating enemies properly, I'd have less quirks about the game. But in terms of perfection and details that are the trademarks of Soulsborne series, DS2 simply lacks this on way too many fronts.
As I said, the game grew on me even with all it's faults, but that came down to accepting that DS2 was different.
Ds2 copium for Ds3 lovers basically that didnt play des or ds1 first.
Sotfs explicitly teaches you not to run past enemies.
In the Forest it teaches you to take it slow to not wake up sleeping enemies or to aggro enemies behind corners. In Heide's the Old Knights gank up on you if you run past them, but let you do 1 vs 1 duels if you fight them fairly. In Iron Keep you get ganked if you run through it, but can fight them all 1 on 1 if you take it slow.
And then in the Dragon Shrine they ramp it up to a hundred with the duels against the Old Knights. If you run past the duels you get ganked hard, but if you fight them the small knights bow down and let you pass.
It always teaches you that you'll get ganked if you run past enemies, but that you get rewarded for fighting enemies fairly.
The problem I have is that I played ds3 before ds2 and I guess it spoiled me. The movement and combat are as slow as in ds1 and the bosses suck compared to ds3.
Also I don't think putting insane amounts of enemies everywhere instead of making those enemies challenging in the first place, is good game design. Yes I know, git gud.
People should talk more about how jarring the character animations look. If I didnt know better this game looks like a fan creation. They really let the intern do their jobs 💀
i have the console version , old and new , and the pc
version , highly suggest playing the pc version , thats the way to to go if you want to have a really good experience during your gameplay .
Started playing recently and really love it so far.. The whole vibe is so unique- things like that talking head, tied up guy with lock instead of face, Tark and Ornifex.. So dreamlike. And Majula really is the best hub in all souls games.
Dark souls 2 might be my favorite of the dark souls trilogy. Never beaten any of them though XD
I'm not super patient with games this hard.
My goal is to finish bloodborne and sekiro before buying elden ring though.
I'm not gonna promise myself I'll beat dark souls 2 or 3 though
Dark souls 2 is the worse , don't click bait a$$$hole
Dark souls 2 is the worst game Ive ever played
I think this game's story is the second best of all the Soulsborne games behind only Bloodborne.
careful youll get a 9 hour video sa made about you haha
Can't agree more, thank you for saying it!
Learned alot of lore I didn't know as well!
Very nice take on the game ❤
good video, btw adaptability isnt the stat that raises i-frames that would be agility, which goes up when you raise adaptability and attunement. so while saying it raises your i-frames isnt wrong its not right either.

"Scholar teaches you to run past enemies"
All scholar footage: Punishes you endlessly and harshly for running past enemies.
I get that you like the original version more but even your own footage contradicts you on this point.
This is my only real issue with the video that isn't just a correction. Such as Agility being the I-frame/item use speed stat(Mostly effects healing/thrown items) that is also obtainable from Attument (at a worse rate)not just Adaptability.
So late game spell casters can get rid of most of their ADP while respecing to get more spell slots/casting speed without losing I-frames/Estus speed(Which I-frame soft cap at 99 and Estus speed Maxes out at 100).
Overall I like the video despite the above.
Bro the parry that was one of the thing I hated and still hate about the game
ds2 is good, scholar of the first sin is fucking dog shit tho
Thank you
I honestly prefer DS2 over DS3.
Dark Souls 2 it's my favorite
I like Dark Souls 2 2.
