“The Last of Us Part II is a 2020 action-adventure game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 4. Set five years after The Last of Us (2013), the game focuses on two playable characters in a post-apocalyptic United States whose lives intertwine: Ellie, who sets out in revenge for a murder, and Abby, a soldier who becomes involved in a conflict between her militia and a religious cult. The game uses a third-person perspective; the player must fight human enemies and cannibalistic zombie-like creatures with firearms, improvised weapons, and stealth.
Following some delays, The Last of Us Part II was released on June 19, 2020. It received critical acclaim, with praise for its gameplay, audio design, score, performances, characters, and visual fidelity, though its narrative and themes divided critics. It was the subject of review bombing on Metacritic, with some players criticizing the story and characters; discourse surrounding the game became adversarial. Part II is one of the best-selling PlayStation 4 games and the fastest-selling PlayStation 4 exclusive, with over four million units sold in its release weekend, and over ten million by 2022. It won more than 320 Game of the Year awards and received multiple other accolades from awards shows and gaming publications.” – Wikipedia/The Last of Us Part II

Well that was a plot twist that I didn't see coming. 😅
RIP Jesse. He was the most morally pure adult from the Jackson community (that we know of). The fact that he was such a good egg in such a broken world speaks volumes about him. Fiercely loyal and caring till the bitter end, you shall be sorely missed
Now the game really begins, I loved that you got to see both perspectives & how Joel's actions had such an ripple effect on so many people's lives 🤘 such an enjoyable episode Hanna you never fail to amaze with your playthrough's take care & hope you are having a wonderful week 🙏🌻🌺🌻💜
And now the true test of your emotional resolve commences. The shift was meant to evoke a visceral reaction from the players, but it's so worth it in the end if you can connect with the characters and the overarching narrative.
This point onwards is where the narrative's complexity and nuance truly shines and elevates the game to even greater emotional heights, and with no shortage of morally ambiguous characters. It truly is a masterpiece imo, I hope you end up loving the game as much as a lot of us do, looking forward to hearing your thoughts as you progress!
38:48 That was a tense fight lmao, was a close call, but you handled that well! Got him on the first try 😎
Aww don't worry im sure there are plenty of people who would play games with you i know i would
The acting in THAT scene from the other perspective was absolutely phenomenal as well. That emotionless expression on Abby's face conveys SO much, you can see that killing Joel ultimately didn't bring her a whole lot of satisfaction in the end, there's nothing but emptiness on her face. Laura Bailey does a phenomenal job with the acting in this game!
And the argument that ensued was interesting to see as well, Owen really stood his ground and insisted on not killing them, and it was ultimately thanks to him and Abby that they were both (Ellie and Tommy) let go of
Question: So about 21 minutes in there's enemies to kill and you're full on rifle ammo and then the game gives you free rifle ammo…….why would you not use your rifle that has a scope and said free ammo to kill some enemies??
Greatest moment in gaming history
Fun to watch, as always! Really liked your curious and open minded reaction to the switch. I personally think that plot twist is nothing less than absolutely great story-telling.
Amazing episode, this truly was an eventful episode. I loved hearing your thoughts throughout this episode. One of many great things about this game is that neither of them are truly morally superior, and the moral ambiguity is what makes these characters so compelling. Even if we may not necessarily agree with their choices, their actions are perfectly understandable within the context of the narrative, and that will continue to get even better as the game progresses. Even the side characters are mostly morally ambiguous characters, they all truly feel like real people.
The fact that it's a grounded narrative with exceptionally well-written realistic characters tends to make it even harder for some people to stomach, 'cause it constantly tests their emotional resolve and the story wants to incite your critical thinking.
It's easier to just go along with the preconceived notion of good vs bad, especially if you've grown attached to the characters you spent so much time with first, 'cause it makes people uncomfortable. They don't want to realise that the other side may not be as bad or that the side we grew attached to may have their faults as well. This coupled with the lack of empathy for Abby is why some people fail to appreciate or love the game, but I absolutely loved every second of it and I truly think it's an exceptional masterpiece. And the best part is that it only gets better and better from here on.
I'm confident that you'll end up loving the game, especially given just how open-minded you seem, which is incredibly commendable because for most people (including myself), the switch evoked quite a visceral reaction at first, but that is entirely intentional, and if you grow to understand her perspective and perhaps even empathise with her, then this turns out to be an immensely rewarding and emotionally charged experience that will stick with you for the foreseeable future. It ended up being my favourite game of all time
Tbh Abby's take about "if it was me" is absolutely bullshit coz she wasn't in that situation and can only operate by abstract phrases
This game will also test your empathy. I think one thing many who played this game.. who had a problem with it, weren't A. mature enough for the subject matter and themes and B. weren't empathetic enough to understand things from multiple perspectives. But you already have a huge step up on those people by realizing Abby isn't wrong for what she feels and does. Is it hard because Joel was a likeable character overall and had a cute relationship with Ellie? Yeah, it's hard, but that's what both of these games are, brutal, and hard..
I still remember that you used all the bullets on those doctors and say i dont even care XD
I think abby care 😂😂😂
Well hello
😂😂😂 I love your reaction omg I had a good laugh
And that’s probably the most divisive and controversial part of this game, some people thought that the sudden narrative shift towards Abby was a smart plot twist, others felt it was forced and they really hated playing as Abby.
Another good video! I’d normally leave a bunch of time stamps with trivia, tips, and answers to your questions, but I don’t really have anything this time. You played great, you noticed stuff yourself, your only questions I didn’t have answers for. The only thing I’d really recommend is to play new game plus with a guide so you can experience all the little nooks and crannies you missed for yourself.
Glad to see the switch to Abby hasn’t bothered you as much as it did so many people on release. I personally sympathized with Abby at this point but still very much sided with Ellie. I won’t go into details because there are some spoilers involved and I don’t want to skew your impression, but there are some directly comparable elements where I feel Abby is objectively worse (ex. Abby intended to torture and she did it without remorse, whereas Ellie didn’t want to and she struggled with it after).
It is interesting to see at what point people realize Abby’s dad was the surgeon. Apparently lots of people don’t realize until she’s crying over his body. Personally, when it said “4 years ago” I knew that was when the first game ended, then when Abby is calling for her dad I assumed he was a Firefly Joel killed, then I saw all the zoo banners and knew they were at St Mary’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, and when her dad first spoke I recognized his voice and knew her dad was the surgeon then and there.
Been great, looking forward to more!
Pleasantly surprised to hear somebody your age drop an Iron Maiden reference🤘
Thanks, now I have Aces High stuck in my head, too😄
Yeah it's time 😂
I one joke
Ellie kills dogs and abby love dogs 😂😂😂
Yeah I love Ellie and Abby too
Because it's complicate😮
Playing as Abby turned out to be my favorite part of the game. I even liked her more than Ellie in the end. It's so interesting because from the way you played and commented during the game I knew you were open for this twist. Other streamers weren't and you also could tell already from the way they approached this game. Can't wait for the next episode! ❤
1:29:19 as a latino, i love your voice in spanish! Great gameplay as always
