**WARNING: SPOILERS!!**

Disc 3, FMV cutscene #3.

Uploaded by request. This is an FMV cutscene from the 2000 Japan-only PS1 RPG “PopoloCrois Monogatari II,” which tells the same story as the Goddess Maira chapter of the PSP game “PoPoLoCrois” – except the PS1 game does it MUCH BETTER. 😉

This is the very last anime cutscene you’ll see during the game’s ending – the rest of the ending is handled through in-game sprites and voice-acted dialogue. Fans of the PSP game should recognize this scene, though I do personally think the PS1 version is much better – the art is nicer, the camera angles more dynamic, and the animation much cleaner.

For those who haven’t played the game (but are watching this video anyway, for some reason!), Narcia is a forest sprite, and forest sprites cannot come into contact with sea water, or else they dissolve into air.

This is one of my personal favorite scenes from the game – it’s an amazingly well-animated FMV showcasing one of the most heart-wrenching moments in gaming history. Probably one of my favorite cutscenes from *any* PS1-era RPG, in fact.

All dialogue has been translated and subtitled by yours truly. Please enable captions to read these subtitles.

Enjoy!

  1. Glad you're enjoying the videos. (:

I just wish YouTube would get its act together with the other one – I uploaded the subtitles hours ago, but they're still not processing.

  2. I didn't even know what they were saying before, and it was still more emotional than how the PSP game did it.

  3. woo hoo! I've been wanting to see these! Thank you! By any chance would you have any others? I'd love to see them! They are really hard to find nowadays :

  4. Yeah, the others are coming soon – I've just been kinda busy lately. (: I'll be adding one or two at a time over the course of the next week or two or three.

  5. @ShadowGunner101 yeah, try swimming when there is a flood and you're like deep underwater lol, and also, if Narcia touches seawater, she'll turn into air bubbles

  6. If only iron man was there he could have got them both out. 😀

  7. No matter what age they are, japanese female ALLWAYS sound like they are about 5.

  8. @JackandJordanshowTV – There's more to the ending, don't worry. The game actually has a very happy ending, believe it or not! It's deus ex machina to the extreme, but it's explained extremely well, and is VERY satisfying.

  9. @JackandJordanshowTV – I'm confused by this comment… I mean, Pietro and Narcia didn't CHOOSE to be trapped in a flooding chamber…

  10. @animetears42 – She didn't. There's more that happens after this. A real deus ex machina, actually – like, pretty much literally!

  11. @Insomniacfan2010 So what? Do you have any complaints about Japanese women having 5-year-old voice?

  12. This is such a beautiful game. Parts of the story have brought me to tears and this is actually one of them. Why something as amazing and wonderful as this was kept only in japan we will never know.

  13. Although I do not cry when watching, my eyes feel very sour and my tear glands went heywire.

  14. @quest3500 – **SPOILER** Deus ex machina, quite literally. Julius — who is, in the PopoloCrois world, basically God Himself — intervenes. Julius' daughter Maira flipped out, turned him to stone and went on a rampage of destruction, but through your intervention, Julius was saved and Maira was returned to him for repentance. And if you essentially save the life of GOD HIMSELF, it's only fair that he does a favor for you in return, right? So he spares Narcia, and your mother as well.

  15. Erm… the video has English subtitles, and the game itself doesn't exist in English. There's a PSP adaption, but it's not as good, and the scene isn't as well-drawn IMHO.

  16. SPOILER: I always thought Narcia survived because she…MEGASPOILER ALERT was a fairy and not a forest witch?

  17. No, the idea is that BECAUSE she's a forest fairy, she can't touch ocean water or she'll dissolve into air. Guilda told her it was because she's a forest witch, but in truth, forest witches CAN touch ocean water without any ill effects — it's forest fairies that can't.

This is gone into in much more detail in the 2003 anime series (or the two PS2 games, though those aren't as good).

  18. Ahh I see! That does make this whole scene much more emotional since she would have died were it not for the intervention.

  19. I managed to find this game at a local shop shortly after our chat in the Flapper comments, and dayum. It's virtually a hate crime that they changed this up in the final game. I guess I didn't realize it in the psp version, but this was a very impressive game for the psx that stands out on its own quite well. I really liked the Lunar psp. That was a great package, but Popolocrois in comparison to that feels empty already, and I still have to track down the other half. Thank you for recommending it to me!

Also, man the animated scenes in this are no joke. They are like Wild Arms 2 OP levels of polish.

  20. 2000년 고3 시절의 기억 중 한 조각을 차지하고 있던 엔딩 영상

  21. There's something missing around here… Where the hell is White Knight

  22. Spoiler alert-

Can anyone tell me the question that Peitro asks Narcia right at the end of the game? The one where it turns out she survived this and they’re both standing next to a lake.

  23. Pietro is the Protagonist of the Game series anime and Prince of Popolocrois Kingdom. Not long after Pietro was born, the Ice Demon attacked Popolocrois. Pietro's mother, Sania, who was of Dragon-kind, was the only ond powerful enough to stop him. She changed into her dragon from and fought with the Ice Demon endlessly for days until they were sucked into the world of darkness. Due to being born of Dragon and Human- kind, Pietro has mixed powers. English Dubbed that like voice actor as from Amy Provenzano best my a girl witch named Narcia is a forest sprite/faerie (being called a 'forest sprite' in Japan, and a faerie in English), who lives in the kingdom of PopoloCrois.

  24. Imagine if Philips CD-i had been popular in Japan…..the quality of the cutscene would have been much better.
