DMC V (get it?) is such a confident game. Nothing in half-measures – Music, Gameplay, Bosses, Player expectations… It expects you to learn multiple characters with completely different mechanics. You don't get a choice, and you're gonna look cool doing it!
HE DID NOT JUST SAY
"V IS VERGIL?"
DMC5 is great, and the use of music themes is amazing as well 🙂 Hope you'll enjoy the game!
V's battle theme is "Crimson Cloud", maybe you could analyze it for future videos.
Ah here we go, the gimmick character for this game V. He plays, as you noticed, COMPLETELY different from Nero. He's akin to a Summoner in Phantasy Star Online 2 or any other class that relies on pets in other RPG. Oh also keep in mind that summoning the big boy can sometimes break walls and give access to secret areas
Also if you ever get a high combo rank like A or S as V, try using his taunt, it's a neat little Easter egg.
1:28 this song is called Crimson Cloud but it's better known as SAVIOR BLOODSTAINED HELLFIRE SHADOW! HEAVEN ON A LANDSLIDE! I don't recommend reading the lyrics.
5:11 Oh there we go see? Like I said, summoning the big boy sometimes opens up secret areas.
9:23 OH MY GOD! It's Linus Tech Tips!
Always liked DMC and its music, haven't played any sense 3 and enjoyed watching this. Im sure several people have already mentioned this but.. Hogwarts Legacy, its amazing and its music is just beautiful : D
I think V just became Marco's new main
The Devil May Cry but the Marco will stop being so hard on himself
No one starts off being able to go combo crazy, you will get better the longer you play. I didn’t feel like I was “good” until I’d already beaten the game a few times.
Also based on some things you said during this video, I’d like to know your detailed thoughts about V’s theme. Dedicated video for Crimson Cloud perhaps? 👀
V Hair turns white because it's dyed black. Whenever you summon Nightmare (the big guy) both Vs tatoos and his hair fade. It's like he summons Nightmare with the ink applied to his body, the tatoos being some sort of summoning runes perhaps.
'As told in Before the Nightmare and Visions of V, V was born after Vergil, separate his human half from his demon half, the latter which he christened as Urizen. At that time, the newly born V witnessed Urizen's birth before the latter set out to unleash Qliphoth upon the city. Left with weak human body and four demons that embodies Vergil's trauma from his time as Nelo Angelo each taking form based on Mundus's minions – Griffon, Shadow, Nightmare, and Phantom, V vowed to stop the large-scale destruction and hopefully remerge with Urizen before his body completely crumbles'
So essentially V is the human half of Vergil, the weaker, more fragile side, created after he stabbed himself with the Yamato, with Vergil's demonic side manifesting as Urizen. V is on a mission to reunite with his demonic half, and regain his strength
Also he has no real name, and simply decided to call himself V after the insignia on Vergils poetry book (a collection of William Blake poems), which brought back memories of his childhood with Dante
I love how nightmare just belly flops on enemies when he's summoned :))
Also, you just figured right off the bat that V is Vergil, impressive
Don't know if you recognized it but most quote V said are poems from William Blake. Also during the cutscene make sure to listen to the accompanying instrument as they sync up with what's happening onscreen.
respect to the Editor to cut those sailor language
Love your editor, Marco! He's hilarious with these let's play episodes.
Little chicken is a great snarky character. Figured you'd enjoy him and V's play style.
Hair goes white for his "devil trigger".
You seem a bit too…happy when you enter combat. Now you're making me wanna replay dmc5, man!
The editor continues to be the MVP!
V is my fave to play for this reason exactly. He figured out the style points so fast!
"I have no name, I am but two days old. Just kidding. Call me V."
Well, given that it's already been spoiled in the comments…
V is Vergil's human side, but not quite. V still has the faintest remnants of magic/demon energy present, hence his ability to control the animals – Griffon (bird), Shadow (cat), and Nightmare (the giant) (there was also Phantom (spider), but that one was too stubborn and didn't submit, so he's dead), who are the physical manifestations of Vergil's suffering at the hands of the main antagonist of DMC1 – Mundus.
When Vergil used Yamato to sever human from demon and during the moments they were separating and their minds were still linked, the human half realized just how bad of a decision that was (at least for "him"). Thing is, Vergil didn't separate human from demon, he separated what he perceived as weakness from strength – and "human" just happened to fall on the weak side (wow, shocking). The other "weaknesses" Urizen left for V were most of his memories, both good and bad (the animals), and his emotions – Urizen is quite literally nothing more than Vergil's lust for power, unshackled by morality and even reason. That's one reason why splitting in two was a bad idea. The other is that V's dying and he doesn't want to die.
As for the book. It was a gift Vergil got from an older man – a neighbor – he often visited. The man had an impressive library and Vergil was – surprise surprise! – a bookworm. He got that book because it was his favorite and drew the V on it to mark it as his property so that Dante wouldn't steal it (didn't help).
I know you've played through this already, But I still ask, What do you think of V's character? (before the very obvious twist)
DMCay 5 of asking you to react to Blazblue's OSTs
Speaking of vergil u should grind out bloody Palace once you've finished the max mode/if u finish the max mode and get all the characters emotes. You may be surprised by vergils one :>. Or just watch it as its a pretty funny emote lol and a nice classical piece even tho his double is being wacky funny man in it.
Also on the V being vergil or not comes up during the game as everyone is a little sus of the dude at the beginning and lose that trust after a boss battle :> I will spoil it after this so don't read the rest of this oke 👌 unless u wanna be spoiled.
Spoiler warning :>
Spoiler warning :>
V is vergils human side after vergil split himself using the yamato into V and urizen and the 3 demons V controls which are nightmares that plague V (it comes up later :>.) The demons that r Vs nightmares come from dmc3 I believe when vergil had lost a fight against the demon king and became a demon controlled by him called nelo angelo and although his demon side was pissed at this his human side was really hurt by this. So hence why he has nightmares. Also vergil would be way more like V than rn if his house hadn't been attacked by monsters and he hadn't been stabbed by the yamato which in turn woke up the demon inside him at a very young age which also kinda fucked with his head a bit. That and also the fact he thought his mom brother and dad all sorta said screw vergil nobody wants to fight to save him and left him when in reality his dad went to get the milk his mom was murdered by demons and dante was in a wardrobe and very scared.
Weird. I've never liked V's theme, but seeing you play made me concentrate more on the lyrics and song itself… now I kinda dig it.
Subhuman's still best tho
Yep, something punk-emo rock as V's theme hits different, not as good as others themes tho
You should totally look up Crimson Cloud sometime, its hard to get a full feel of it during gameplay as V, because you need to maintain a S ranking or higher to even get some parts of the song to play, and his fights are usually too short to do that.
You're doing pretty good on the gameplay btw, keep it up!
Absolutely digging it Marco, will you be playing through the whole game?
A video on V’s theme would be cool because it’s an emo genre, but mysteriously something else for reasons. I find it quite unique.
Man I'd forgotten how much of a little jerk Griffon is! But honestly that's half his appeal. XD
Watching V gameplay now that I've mastered the Summoner class in Phantasy Star Online 2 is really interesting. They're both really similar but DMC is much faster. It's kind of awesome. I might even get back into writing fanfic just so I can write V and the Vessel of the Universe bonding over their asshole friends XD
Yay new episode! I've been waiting for this!
V is a very interesting character. Rather than being a demonic powerhouse like Dante and Nero or a one man army able to keep up with demons like Lady, V is really… weak. He feels fragile to play as. He needs Griffon to double jump, if he gets hit he goes flying and needs his cane to stead himself. Hell, if you hold down the taunt button he starts coughing! But he still feels like a badass to play as. He may lack raw power, but having three demons to control the battlefield makes you feel more tactical, like a conductor guiding an orchestra (fun fact, if you get a high enough rank one of his taunts has him conduct the Flight of the Valkyries). I hear he takes a lot of inspiration from the summoner class from Dragons Dogma, another game from director Hideaki Itsuno.
Notably, all of V's familiars are demons from the original Devil May Cry. Shadow acts almost identically to the original cat right down to the attacks, Griffon was a much larger and browner bird but was able to do almost all of this one's moves, though they're very different in personality with the original Griffon being an honourable and loyal servant of Mundus (the demon that killed Dante and Vergil's mum) while the new Griffon is just Iago. Nightmare was something dangerous, arguably the hardest boss in the original game and a mindless weapon created by Mundus. This one too lacks a personality, but rather than being a gun like blob he forms a more Golem like body.
DMC5 has a lot of references to William Blake, but V is the main source of it. He goes so far as to carry an anthology of his works on him at all times! Those poems he reads out when are actual poems by Blake, namely "The Angel that presided 'oer my birth" and "Auguries of Innocence", and whenever he defeats a boss he'll break out another poem, a few to many to list here. The main antagonist of the game, Urizen, is taken from a god like entity from Blake's mythology, mainly being a sort of satanic but also creator figure, though he appeared as an old man rather than a giant with too many eyes covered in roots. And the Qliphoth, while the name is taken from Judaism, references the "Poison Apple" poem, which was shown briefly at the start of the game – a tree that bares a fruit born from resentment and hatred.
V is one of my favorite characters in DMC both gameplay and story wise.
V's familiars are….well, familiar😂! And it's cool to see them return. (I won't say more than that).
He's a very weak character in lore, needing these demons to weaken his enemies before finishing them off.
But I'm pretty sure he's also our only insight into the Pact system of DMC lore.
So… This song name is <<Crimson Cloud>> by Jeff Rona and Rachel Fannan… 😈
Reaction on the full version may be..? 😏
And hey… V could stand for Vitore, Vincent, Vladimir, Victor, there's a lot of options… (totally not being a coy right now…)
P.S. !IMPORTANT!
MAJOR spoiler for the V character in Chorus 2.. just saying.
And another bad-ass detail – Official clip for the song looks to be HEAVILY inspired by 1994 The Crow movie
(which is awesome as well……… It's a huge Recommend if you haven't seen it (i'm sure you have, tho :D))
P.P.S. Some Sick Smoking Style on editing side, mysterious mister Editor 😶🌫
