First: If I were in their position, I would have taken the offer to come hang out and preview the series too, because it sounds fun.
That being said, I hope that more independent creators are aware of the lesson that corporate gaming publications largely failed to learn: when you become access media, people largely don't take you seriously. If you review a product, and that product's seller first wined and dined you and gave you personal interviews and early access and gift bags or whatever else (things that their business does not do for people who seriously criticize their work), your incentives as critics become skewed. I watch this channel because it's entertaining and it gives me a believable view of media from a certain perspective. This video I watched because the channel is entertaining, but for no other reason.
The reason that there are so many YouTubers on basic equipment in their basement doing reviews in their spare time that are crushing Kotaku's and Polygon's and IGN's numbers is because, among other things, those companies don't seem to grasp this.
I feel like I'll watch the first episode and just feel the urge to play the two games again. Sweet depression coming soon…lol
