WOW WOW WOW… this game!! I knew it was going to be Tommy or Jesse, but I am still shocked. Also this first episode playing as Abby right after seeing her kill him was hard, but I do get more open minded and end up really enjoying the latter half with her so don’t worry! My prediction skills are completely thrown off in this game and I LOVE it. I hope y’all are too!

Pretty much everyone is angry and hurt when they make you switch back to playing Abby. It's a hard switch and almost cruel, but is one of the most interesting moves I've ever seen in a game. Forcing you to literally walk miles in your enemies shoes and take in their perspective. Some people can do it and some can't. And its not bad, the people that can't – they feel how they feel, but if you can I think there's such an interesting dialogue to be had about it. Excited to see your journey.
They def do throw more loot at you with Abby. I think bc they know people aren't going to take care of her the same way as Ellie so they drop more stuff more often. However, you are rewarded for exploring just as much, like you saw with the hunting pistol so keep up the effort. There was enough to make pipe bombs when Manny mentioned it at the start of Home Depot, but you missed loot on the floor for it. And there was a coin on the table there, but you didn't loop close enough to get the prompt. You had the right instinct when you placed the ladder against the wall, ton of loot up there, but I think it was a little glitchy and you would have needed to back up to get the climbing cue. And that's not to criticize. Pretty much everyone rushes parts with Abby and miss a bunch bc they hate her. You're honestly doing better than most in trying to be fair to her, which is great. Love the insightful commentary and updates on how you're feeling about things.
You cam also dodge as Abby
How did you stay away from spoilers
Hey, can you change the title? If the video pops up for anyone who's at the start of your series it'll be a major spoiler.
Although hard to do, the beauty of this game is how they force you to play as Abby. You’re forced to empathize. Everyone thinks they understand empathy, but this game really tests and challenges that. It’s such a brilliant move, and why this game is masterful and elegantly done. Mechanics like this transcend the genre and perhaps our minds. Also… Great play through! You are a blast to watch and listen to.
Everyone’s the hero of there town story, glad you played through to the end of the game
Not to make you feel bad or anything, but you missed like 6 coins before you found your first one (Massachusetts).
You've for sure played this game before, all of your predictions and even saying some of the lines the characters say there's no way that you didn't play this already. But am surprised with the acting skills able to cry and show emotions on the cut scenes that you've already played before lol
I think it's awesome how you're viewing the Abby section. Naughty Dog is amazing with character development. Respecting the time given to Abby will only deepen the story. Love your reaction.
I absolutely love this game, and this series is tied with the RDR series as my top video game series of all time. I especially love Abby's section of the game and it's so worth going through the entire game to see the similarities and differences between her and Ellie's journey. I understand how some people may still walk away not liking this game, but this type of story needs several playthroughs and time to fully process and understand. It's also based on the player's ability to get past their own emotions, not the fault of the writing quality or the story itself (nostalgia and stubbornness towards liking Abby are the main factors that prevent people from finishing her side of the game).
I've seen that people who are open-minded (or just aren't as attached to Joel) like this story a lot, side with Abby much easier, and see how great the writing is at making you understand both sides of the situation. Meanwhile, haters of the game use every basic story-telling device on Abby's side of the story as ammo to act like the game is 'manipulating' you to like Abby- that's kinda how stories work, they show the audience realistic and likable qualities so that you get a better sense of the character and who they really are, as Ellie's side of the game never humanizes Abby and makes her seem like a 2D villain.
However, the other half of the hate this game receives is just absolutely uncalled for, and it's usually the worst of the bunch that tends to always bring up how much they hate it bc they have no other personality. Laura Bailey, the actress playing Abby, is a legend in the videogame industry but she AND HER 4-YEAR-OLD SON got death threats from horrible, brainless people who treated her as if she actually killed Joel and "ruined the series". Not to mention, the TLOU2 subreddit is still an absolute cesspool infested with the most misogynistic, homophobic, and transphobic content you could ever think of. So yeah, while the reviews are still mixed, I think over time a lot more people have started to like this game or at least understand it better than when it first came out- aside from the people who purposely still spread hate to the actors and writers involved bc they wanted fanservice instead of a realistic continuation of Joel's lie at the end of TLOU1.
49:13 best line 😂
Why is Ellie’s revenge on Abby more acceptable than Abby’s revenge on Joel?
This is not the point but you mentioned the Highland cow, and I knew what the cow looked like, I think they're adorable. But I had never seen the posters before. I was looking at dresses online and boom, and in the reviews a woman posted her mirror pic and in the background was a Highlind Cow poster!!
Abby was not redeemed to me AT ALL
When I first saw this flashback, I just shrugged and said, “Ok 🤷🏻♂️….you still gotta die”.
This is a false equivalency between Ellie’s and Abby’s situation: Joel didn’t slowly torture Jerry and make Abby watch. For that alone, Abby is pass the point-of-no-return in being forgiven for me
I actually enjoyed playing as Abby more than Ellie, as the game progressed. Ellie is on such a self-destructive mission, while Abby is moving toward redemption. I found that a more rewarding experience.
hey! watch out for the spoiler in the title 🙂
1:12:40 That's when I laughed my ass off making Abby fall like 10 times. I mean the infecteds from before or throwing a pipe bomb at her feet just didn't seem as poetic. Anyway, only then did I allow myself to feel for her. I thought I was empathetic back then, but this game made me truly experience the difference between "knowing" how someone feel and "understanding" how someone feel.
As soon as she did it, I understood right away why Abby killed Joel : I was like "Joel probably killed someone she was close with or something and she needed revenge, and now Ellie is gonna do the same as her and we'll see how it doesn't make either of them feel better". But then I only thought we were gonna play as Ellie and see how revenge is gonna cost her everything. I was like "it's not worth it" and everything.
Then we see young Abby calling her Dad. This moment right there is why this game is a masterpiece. Before playing as Abby, I really really thought I had it all figured out. But then I find myself having to make Abby suffer a little bit, first making sarcastic comments like "be careful now, would be so bad if you choke on your burrito" or telling the dog to attack her (which they never do, damn it !) or trying to make her fall from the truck when the scars attack.
Anyway, 1:12:40. Made her fall 10 or so times, laughed my ass off, then I paused and that was it. That's precisely the moment I experienced the difference between "knowing" and "understanding" someone. I actually had to get my frustration out of the way before I could truly understand. From this point, I allowed myself to really be opened to what the devs and the game were trying to tell us, more or less free from my own frustration, and then the story after that was so good it changed my perspective on things, and even on myself, afterwards.
People who never finished the game, or people who hate it, just missed an opportunity to become a better person. The emotionnal trick it plays on the player is brilliant. There's only a few games who can actually make people think AND experience important things by telling them right, and this game is definitely on the list. Hatred, empathy, tribalism… other things I'm afraid to list because spoiler, but yeah, this game is great.
Anyway, enough monologuing. Sorry about that, I like that Kasta is open-minded but conflicted about it, it makes the experience great. I've discovered Kasta through this playthrough actually so I'm looking forward to watch the next videos too.
Also kudos to whoever read that entirely, just needed to vent it out right now for some reason. Have a good one everyone.
what are you thinking about playing this game again on new game+? maybe on your other channel?
what’re ur headphones called 😭
So I haven't been digging this whole revenge arc, besides some interactions. I've been mostly looking at what Ellie gets from all this, since it's clearly something she must go through.
But I find it fascinating that the game makes you play as Abby! Finally an interesting turn, I'm really curious now to see where this goes (I haven't played the game)
I remember being pissed off at having to play as Abby again at this point, but it didn't take long for me to get on board with her arc. I'm a very passionate psychology student and have always been interested in peoples behaviour, so I started paying very close attention to how they were depicting Abby. I found it fascinating that they weren't trying to make her out to be some misunderstood hero, or trying to beat us over the head with how guilty she felt for her wrongdoings. She didn't come across as a good person to me at all. She's just a person with her own convictions, and just like the real world, sometimes people's actions are at odds with our own interests.
I don't believe they're trying to justify her actions by any means, nor are they trying to get us to forgive her for what she did to Joel, they're just showing us her side of the story and that's something you rarely get in real life (or in video games, for that matter – it's usually "you're the good guys and you have to beat the bad guys no questions asked"). That's why I always push back on the notion that this game is nothing more than a "revenge is bad" narrative. I find it to be an incredibly valuable exploration of human emotion, and a difficult challenge of personal biases.
After many playthroughs , il be Team Abby always. Seeing as the whole game has butterfly effect symbolism and the world's situation is rough for everyone, I look at who the people were since the outbreak. Joel who was a smuggler and gun runner and not contributing to rebuilding at all , just going a murderous rampage to help a immune person get to the people who can make a vaccine just to kill him too…and abbys dad who was a doctor trying to do good using his skills to help. WLF was really only violent towards a psychotic cult group in a civil war environment. Hot take , Joel was kinda just a piece of shit to everyone but Ellie. 🤔
Well you made it through the first 1/3rd of the game, welcome to the beginning of part 2/3 🙂
I love that “you’re a dead boy but you’re a good boy now”
i dont think abby really took any pleasure in hurting joel. after she took the final swing, you can see on her face that it was sort of just empty and emotionless. i think it sunk in right there in that moment that those years of anger and pain didn't just go away once she finally got her revenge. those years of longing for revenge were over in a split second and it didn't make her feel any better.
I enjoyed playing as Abby, she was a freakin TANK. I mean of course I thought it was unpleasant to realize I had to play as her, but I paid for the game so I was definitely going to finish it. Plus… let's just be real…. it's just a game, I understand getting attached to characters, but some people seriously reminded me of that chick from the 'Misery' movie. They were waaaaaaaay too attached to Joel, lol.
At first I didn’t like playing as Abby but after a couple mins I started to understand her point of view but still wanted her to pay.. I think I’ve played it at least 5 times such a great story and gameplay is Awesome
I love that so many people just universally decide to go super aggro with Abby. I did the same thing my first play though Ellie was always a stealthy ninja and Abby is just guns go boom.
I see the comments and all i can say is idc, Abby will never be as good as Joel or Ellie, Joel getting killed ruined a lot of what the fans wanted to see in a part 2. This whole Abby segment was to try to make the players feel bad for her and it worked on yall. Idc …Joel is who made the first game what it was and killing him off for a girl who lifts refrigerators for breakfast is bs lol
Abbys guns truly were distracting for me at points of the game but the emotional parts are sooooooo good. Maggie ur amazing the commentary
When the game made me play as abby I went, "Oh no baby Abby." But when I saw the upgrade list I went "Oh. Okay this is gonna be a whole thing. Okay I'm in."
Controversial opinion coming but after Dina, Abby is my favourite character in this game.
