Ignoring the fights core mechanics while using them everywhere else? Ok??????
Palace Bosses typically use two turns per "turn". Kaneshiro using Super VIP Form and then having the pig spin faster is two turns. So the debuffs typically only last half as long.
By the way, you had 14 Beads. Using one wouldn't have hurt, and he would've been distracted for several turns. It wouldn't have just stopped him for one turn. If the game is suggesting something, it's almost always beneficial to do it.
I could be wrong, but I think this was the first time Makoto has genuinely laughed since she was introduced. Good. She deserves it.
I know Joker is probably giving Sae the cliff notes of what actually happened in this story but I’m just imagining him going “So then we fought Kaneshiro who turned into a fly and got inside a giant mechanical piggy bank. He ran us over with it a few times, and it really really hurt but then we won when he ran out of money to throw at bodyguards.” And Sae is just like “… You know what? That tracks.”
I think this is probably most obvious form but Kaneshiro is beelzebub lord of flies and greed

By the way, the Black Rock, Black Robe, and Model Gun (there's an item specifically called a Model Gun, not the model guns you buy from the shop), and Blank Card are all used to create items out of your personas in the Velvet Room.
To add to what Catterham said about guarding:
Accuracy/ Evasion Up vs. Guarding is a bit of a toss-up. With Guarding, you're guaranteed to get hit, but you'll take less damage. But with Accuracy/ Evasion Up, you have a chance at fully evading the attack (and how big that chance is depends on how high your Accuracy/ Evasion stat is and how high your enemy's Accuracy/ Evasion stat is), but you'll take the full brunt of the attack if you do get hit.
Confirmed, Evan is an hoarder that will keep its 99 Beads until the end of game "In case he needs it".

Although you basically hardmoded it by not giving him the items you did manage to beat the boss although not the most efficient way. I also hardly doubt you will ever use those items because you could've used them on your party members during this fight like the Bead one. Either way still good job on taking down Kaneshiro. I do love your theories as well looking forward to more of how this game plays out, but will definitely agree with Evan that the part with Morgana being heard was definitely not a writing error.
It is so great having Makoto as part of the main team. They really did a great job with her character who you would've thought at first meeting her she would just be someone who was going to go against the Phantom Thieves to becoming a strength to what the team needed. Also her quickness in unlocking that suitcase was "Totes" amazing! Also hearing her laugh was kind of nice because she's been thru so much that its nice to hear her feel more calm and happy.
Although using a buff/debuff twice in a row doesn't stack the effect, it does make its duration last longer

In case you're curious as to why the mini boss theme played for the dialogue at the beginning of Kaneshrio's fight, it's a weird leftover from the original PS3/4 release that I guess they forgot to clean up. Originally, you fought Shadow Kaneshiro in a fairly straightforward 1 on 4 fight, where he'd use basic attacks, weak magic of varying elements, and try and inflict fear on single targets. Reducing him to 1 HP would then trigger the Piggytron phase, which plays the Palace ruler theme proper and plays out more like the Royal version. That's also why Shadow Kaneshiro kinda awkwardly goes back into Piggytron before it blows up, since defeating Piggytron triggered the end of the fight, and he sits in it during the cutscene. It really seems like Kaneshiro was the one part of the game they forgot to clean up when ATLUS made their changes!

Lol obviously I’m not the only one to say it but I just have to because that fight hurt my soul to watch. Don’t be afraid to use the items!! You’ll have so much more going forward. Also, I noticed you’re concerned about the money thing, but that’s why mementos and Jose exist. Use the tools given to you by the game and you’ll be alright
More game basic mecánics:
Guard: lower your evation 0% but you take only 50% of the damage
Extended: the Max time of buffs and debuffs is 3 MOVES, extend only reset the 3 MOVES, also some bosses have 2 moves per turn for example, Shadow Kaneshiro

Oh my god, there'd a limit to how much of a hoarder you can be. "I never use items, but what if I need it?" "The game is literally asking you to use this item that you never use in exchange for an advantage." "But what if I NEED IT?"
Also, I wonder how getting money in the metaverse works. Like, how do you earn real money when you beat up a shadow? Do we just carry loads of counterfeit money with us that doesn't get checked by anyone we give it to? Does all of the lost loose change in the world just get absorbed into the metaverse?
Also also, while it does automatically equip stronger weapons, it doesn't automatically equip stronger protectors. You absolutely got a few better armors in the palace and completely ignored them.

You weren't able to recruit the treasure demon from this palace, right? Friendly reminder that it differs from each palace in the game, one stronger than the last. But don't worry, like the rest of the shadows in the game, you'll find it in Mementos.

One tip regarding healing: whenever you choose to heal in combat, it'll automatically lock onto the person with the least health with the single target ones. It's one nice shortcut when you want to heal your party.

The problem with the logic of saving on items like that is youre gonna end up using the items to heal yourself from the damage you take anyway, you were better off just throwing the one healing item rather then using 3 or 4 to heal your party from getting rolled over.
