This is a supercut of the two souls videos I made. I did this last year with Persona, and I’m doing it again. The year isn’t over for me – I have more stuff planned as usual, and Xenoblade Chronicles (per patron reward) is coming in February. Dropping this now because the two vids have finally chilled out.

These ones were fun to make. I can’t believe I started playing them in like, April or something. Half my year feels like it involved Souls. I love these games, even the rough ones. It’s not the best video on the subject, depending on your tastes and preferences, but it’s the only KBash video set on souls, so I’m proud to say it’s done.

This is my rough, mildly refined meditation on the games. They’re among the best things I wrote about this year, alongside TWEWY, Valkyrie Profile 1, and Prince of Persia, among others. Stiff competition. You’ll find, if you give them the time, that they’re actually very forgiving and inspiring to play, more than some difficult games. Oh yeah, and I’m doing Nioh in 2023. Correctly, this time.

“Please talk about Berserk” actually I love Berserk, but don’t see the inherent critical importance in informing the audience about something they already know. I try to crop where I can!

“Please talk about Midir/x/y/z” more like Mid-ir, amirite? Hah. Hoooooo

“Please talk about Patches” actually you can totally miss the guy in most games, so it seems more loving to the series to not spoil every bit of magic in each game. Games like these thrive on discovery, no? I actually fell for his trap in bloodborne for the first time ever doing that video lmao

    After going through DS1 just a couple of weeks ago, I've got an even bigger appreciation for your coverage of it. Lot of the discourse around those games have been tainted by the "aaaah it's hard" type of folks and idk, it's good to have someone not exclusively use that angle for their own criticism of the game.     Someone lied to you cause vanilla DS2 is way easier than SotFS. Probably appropriate that your were lied to given it was likely a Souls fan who told you and the amount of "try jumping" messages near death pits are a testament to their deviousness.

    My night is saved from the difficult former fun choice of yt video… having lived on yt for over 5 years and this is seriously the worst time to find fun content so thank you so much for this long format (even though I recognise some of the content ofc haha) and totally agree, the first game is my baby (bloodborne)

    Manus happened and now we're all struggling with the consequences (also Raimes/Fume knight armor is the Best in the series to this day don't @ me)

    Jack Skellington took time off from babysitting Sora ruining Christmas and came packing heat made of blood quicksilver and pain and said PREPARE TO SCREAM while aliens invaded our colons or something

    and decided the best way to do that was to make us all use his own Meta Katana/Dex build and get shot at by the entirety of Japan
    And Elden Ring
    My god..
    So you remember that year fresh out of highschool didn't go to college and decided you were gonna spend the entirety playing an ElderScrolls game forget that there is in fact a real world and drink DnD juice until your alien parasite baby was finally expelled from your colon
    Yes Elden Ring is the Kidney stone of Souls
    It's gonna take a really long time and your Dick is going to hurt until it's finally over with

    See I don't think there should be an easy mode for dark souls but not because "ohh that will ruin how it's an ultra challenge only real gamers can beat!" But because the game isn't hard. It doesn't require elite gamer skills it just requires a shift in how you view death in a video game. Yes you die alot but that's a mechanic built into the game. You can die a trillion times and still progress at a steady pace. Instead of reloading from a previous save like other games signifying that you clearly screwed up you simply get returned to a bonfire. Changes you made to the world still persist if you opened a lock door or killed a boss before dying that still happened. The only reason people say it needs an easy mode is they think that when they die its somehow them not playing correctly so they get frustrated,quit and cry on Twitter. When if they just think of it as a mechanic to encourage expirementation or changing your approach they would realize outside of maybe 6 bosses across every fromsoft game the game isn't difficult just different.

    This is truly a day of thanks! Also in ds1 you can grind rats in the depths with the covetous serpent ring. 1-3 humanity every time with that set up and it helps a lot with choas weapons.

    darksouls only got popular because of streamers screaming and retards thinking seeing someone fail and scream is funny, it is nothing but boring trial and error, it's like iwbtg but disguised as adventure game -nobody actually likes this crap they only say so because of peer pressure. If you ask any "darksouls fan" that also happens to like good games like bayonneta or dmc, if they wanna play dmc5 instead of darksouls they always say YES because one is fun and the other sucks
