Never before seen debugging tape from Nintendo. Includes an earlier debug build of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, dated 9/21/00. Big thanks to the Forest of Illusion team for helping to acquire these. All tapes will be released in full in December. 🙂

The chest game girl is important, the bug tester was just making sure her assets were in check. Honestly, it was ahead of the curve because they knew players would check there AND the mayors assistant.
OH HELL YEAH
You have the best channel ever. Thankyou for this.
this is legit just feels like a recording of me from 2014 when i downloaded mm and appropriate cheat codes and fucked around for an hour or two fr
1:03 Man was down bad.
Hi 🙂
I mean, I'm hard4games, but this guy was on a whole other meaning of it.
damn that debugger really got hard for games
did they find any bugs? i cant be bothered watching the whole thing
The debug / crash screen at the end feels like something straight out of those piracy creepy pasta videos from earlier this year
Heck yeah. This stuff is so cool
Muito bom 🐱
Awesome but not enough freak out over the dam secret island lol.
Thank you! This one is really cool. Kinda funny that the debugger was messing around as Fierce Diety Link in the milk bar… You can't even normally use the mask there!
It's been my dream since I was a little kid to play the full Zelda 64 beta demo.
This makes me wonder if there might be any debug tapes of some unrealeased games. Earthbound 64 anyone?
Despite it being on a VHS tape and having not many of what we know today… It's actually quite creepy to be honest even if it's just debug footage probably from somewhere in the world by somebody testing the game working at Nintendo. I dunno.
Because there's so many things that feel really out of place with it. But it's still really incredible to watch.
Caught this man down bad in 240p, 20 fps 1999 vhs style.
so. they outsourced debugging to germany? thats weird
Good Job on this find. I never thought The Fierce Deity was that big. He's twice the height of Adult Link.
What a wonderful holiday gift, thanks Tony and everyone at Hard4Games!! This channel can always cheer me up in times of distress
1:12 someone was a little too Hard 4 Games
VHS was used for game testing up until 2008.
Handsome baby Tony 😍😍😍
Did she even have legs in the full release??? I could've sworn she was just a torso with no legs in the official release
never leave a debugger in a room alone with Majora's Mask
this tape makes for some good creepy pasta in a few parts which makes sense considering the tone of this game and how worn the tape must be
1:28 intro skip
30:41 is Link looking at the player coz that’s just creepy ha
The last crash handler screen is creepy because it seemed like they were just playing normally but maybe the pause screen bugged out something. Like for this game ensuring pausing actually doesn’t run anything in real time in the background and cause events to break sequence and throw exceptions. I assume pause buffering would have been the biggest kicker!

It’s interesting seeing them use that function where you can move Link to any spot in 3D space (as seen at 2:20). I’ve only seen this used in the practice rom for Ocarina of Time by speed runners (like ZFG). I guess this is where that originates from, the debug rom or something
I wonder if that guy who was playing was even able to read German or French
I wonder what caused that crash at the end. Too bad the footage is rather scrambled there.
Now that the footage has been archived, you should replace the VHS tape shell with a purple or gold one to match the game.
Just a hunch, but it's possible the tester was showing bugs that allowed the player to get behind the counter and see the girl from a position that could impact the game's rating.
