Is the New Phoenix Nerf Enough? 🤔

In this video, Billybob discusses the phoenix emergency nerf in Clash Royale. The phoenix is a new card that is very overpowered in this meta. An emergency nerf was needed because it has been destroying midladder, challenges, and even top ladder games because it is the best card in the game. The phoenix is stronger than the Clash Royale champions, and that has to change. This has led to Clash Royale to make an immediate emergency nerf to fix this issue.

  1. The base card should get a nerf. All the other dragons can be ignored or countered easily by a cheap ground troop on your side of the arena (baby d with a mini tank, inferno d with a swarm/kiting, e drag with a spirit or king tower activate, etc.). Phoenix has the health of a miner, more dps than a mega minion and will force out your best anti air or you have to fumble your cycle and sacrifice more ground units.
    I think they should put more focus on the egg mechanic and rework it around that.
    Some ideas:
    – have it be a weaker phoenix each time it respawns
    – or add in an extra mechanic where the phoenix’s health is on a timer (like a building) which is shorter for each respawn
    – or make the unit weaker and faster (i.e. skele drags hp, or hp of an archer), more like a single beefy regular minion and have it respawn multiple times and in more scenarios (i.e. healthier egg/faster respawn time).
    – or something weird like buffing the death explosion (i.e. mighty miner bomb), having so the majority of it’s value comes from it’s death and respawn – such that expending a spell on the egg usually balances the elixir exchange
    – having the egg only hatch if the opponent attacks it (breaks by timer): it which would mean reworking most of the card but then the counterplay is more intuitive

Hey fulltilt in my opinion the phoenix cant be balanced because if they keep nerfing the egg of the phoenix it doesnt be worthed and the mega minion will be stronger that is the problem with the witch and the giant skelleton and the problem is that the mega minion is balanced but if they buff it the mega minion will be too powerfull. The only awnser is thatvsupercell gives a special ability to the mega minion. Otherwise: welcome witch 2.0

  3. I just got the Phoenix 🙄 but wouldn't this count as a buff to logbait now? In retrospect supercell has no idea how to balance cards it seems

  4. WOOOOOOO the egg dies way easier now, anyway, nerf the second phoenix to be half as strong than the original.

  5. I think it's good, half the time it's scary cause it does on their side, respawns and the counter push with it. This makes it easier to kill when it's dead on their side. I often currently find myself wanting a defending phoinex to cross the bridge in low health rather than die so my tower can finish the egg. It also means e golem pushes will be easier to stop, as healer can't heal the egg of it's one shot. Overall, a good nerf, but it will still be a busted carf

  8. New log bait deck:phoenix, goblin barrel, dart goblin, mirror(to tank for the other phoenix’s egg), valk, rocket, log, and tesla. This is all theoretical but it could happen.

  9. Good start but imo nerfing Phoenix’s hit speed would balance it out, drop it by 25% and it should be ok

  10. We need health and damage nerfs. You could also rework it to make it a win condition id be ok with that too but as of right now it’s a support AND win con. You can’t have both

  11. I'm still biased to nerfing the pheonix's HP, but I think they'd need to undo this change if the HP nerf is gonna be meaningful. If they don't, they'll either gut the card from the meta, or be too afraid of overnerfing to do anything meaningful.

  12. the phoenix egg should spawn a smaller phoenix that deals less damage and has less health that would make it balanced and make sense bc an egg hatching a full grown phoenix doesnt make sense to me

  13. They're just wasting their time needing everything except the respawned Phoenix's health. As soon as they do that it'll either become balanced or fall off the face of the earth

    It's basically just a log buff.

    It does need a nerf though, just don't love this one.

  15. A possible rework idea is giving the egg a health buff but make it so that the phoenix respawns with however much health the egg has in %

  16. The hp at lvl 11 is like 1200 right, so in order to actually balance it they would have to nerf it again to 1000.

  18. They should nerf the respawned phoenix’ dps, I thought they would do this before released the card, what were they thinking?

  19. I think they could remove or heavily nerf the death explosion damage, and instead move it to an explosion when the egg is killed (said that instead of broken so what I mean isn’t confused)

  20. I think that it absolutely not the way it should be balanced.
    Resurrection is feature of phoenix, so better make him hard to counter on egg form, but make him less valuable on battlefield. And by that we will get results where card won't be able to properly best all other cards with some same aspects, because it must stay in battle long enough to get value other cards can do faster, so real nerf it must get should be huge damage and health in phoenix form reduction, and egg must be same as it was on release

  21. Why does every new card have to be a tank? Why can’t we get more troops you have to think about where you place them?

  22. My current proposition, was just to give it Archer Queen HP, so it survives fireball, but cant rush the tower

    1210 -> 1000

    There’s literally no reason why it should be this tanky, it’s got too much HP
