MM is so much more refined than OOT, and it made me surprised when i found out how lesser oot felt since mm was my first zelda game, and i feel like i shouldve played oot first because of how much worse the quality of life was in oot, i remember getting the masks in oot and being sad that they did notging
I didn't know rolling destroyed grass in mm!
Interesting
Also the grog look-alike is a completely different character as he gets lost in the lost woods in oot and becomes a monster
1:46 This works in real life too! I just mowed my entire lawn using this method! Try it out!
Edit: I also found $43 and a fairy. I named her Fred
I had no idea you could swim faster in Oot. Although it’s practically negligible.
Ocarina had the better story while majora's mask had the better gameplay
Fun fact: While Link in Majora’s Mask doesnt swim as fast as he was in Ocarina of time, Fierce Deity Link can swim as fast as Ocarina of Time Link. I think thats been used on him instead.
Also, you dont have to tap to swim faster as Fierce Deity as well.
i dont know the context of the old video so it could have been a mod of some kind, but i recall an old OoT video showing off swapping Grog's hair on and off with like a debug menu or something. like having Link walking around him swapping it.
These little changes are interesting because both games share more-or-less the same engine.
The arrows having water collision likely comes from general necessity. Since Ice Arrows could now freeze water, it meant that arrows had to hit the water to register the freezing.
For the rolling to destroy grass and jars, I wonder if it has to do with the shield. The Deku shield is being worn in the OOT clips and the Hyrule shield is worn in MM, maybe the metal Hyrule shield "cuts" the grass and pots? Not sure if OP tested both shields
The poe collector look he is wearing a torn princess zelda dress. Its the same triforce symbol that zelda have on her dress in the adult era.
Hey I've been watching your videos alot recently and I love your attention to all these small details and videos where you show me things about Ocarina that I never knew. I have a couple cool details that I wanted to cover on my channel but I have something going on thats taking my time, and I think these would suite your next video. 1. Grog actually had a full set of hair and it's still available in the games files. This was uncovered by a discord group that's currently working to compile MM for a possible future port. There's a code present in his script that collapses his hair. That's why there's one angle where it looks invisible it's so thin. A similar thing can be done to links body using GameShark. Maybe his hair was too buggy and after collapsing just went with the mohawk to save on time.
2. This one's really small, but if you remain idle in MM the camera will zoom in slow as molasses. I have to play it sped up by x200 to notice the change but you'll be surprised how much it zooms in. Almost goes through link but eventually the distance begins to cap about a foot away.
3. Majora won't shoot lasers at Fierce Diety Link. I found this while creating a battle between Majora and Ganon. During which I studied alot of they're attack habits and values that affect the battle. Theres a code that controls when Majora can reach it's next phase of attacks (which includes the laser) but the code will deactivate it's self when you play as Fierce Diety. Change into any other mask and it reactivates, so I guess it was intentional.
Thats all I got, and if you'd like to get up with me, I'd gladly get you some footage of all of this. Keep on rocking out these good videos Looygi!

Ah yes, Grog has a mohawk in MM and not one in OoT. Very subtle…
XD
Interesting.
Not sure if anybody else mentioned this but in Majora the bow will destroy a skulltula from the front, and in Ocarina it won’t! So you have to use the hookshot in ocarina and the bow in Majora.
Great video as always!
In Ocarina of Time, what's up with Ganondorf's eyes in his castle before I defeat him and rescue Princess Zelda?
These are some cool facts! And the prodcution quality with the camera is great too!
Majora’s Mask is a really good romhack of OoT 👍
Luscious Carapace
Grog and the carpenters son are not the same person.
Actually did you know gorg’s mohawk is indeed present in his oot model but the mesh is disabled
Another subtle detail is Link's ability to front-flip and side-flip in Majora's Mask when running off ledges. In Ocarina, he only performs a single, normal jump.
Can't believe I played Majora at least 20 times and never tought to just roll into the blades of grass. I just assumed you HAD to slash them like in Ocarina.
It's not the magic upgrade in Majora's Mask that makes the quick spin a red wave. It's the Spin Attack Mastery. They were able to do that because Link has magic before he gains Spin Attack Mastery. That and the powered up quick spin is what makes it worth getting.
I'm not 100% but I believe in ocarina if you roll with the iron boots on it can break grass and pots.
All of the differences in roll collision were updated in the Ocarina of Time remake. You could smash pots with your rolls in the pot room in that game.
I wonder if rolling to destroy the grass/pots in Majora was implemented so the player had a way of easily doing so, in case Link was without his sword (whether it was stolen by the Takkuri bird or left at the Mountain Smithy)!
Now I'm wondering how many of these differences still exist in the 3DS versions.
So your saying Majoras Mask is better lol, which I agree IMO
"Pierce through a Skulltulla's carapace."
Oh, Looygi Bros, you're so eloquent. Also, the custom cam continues to bring the pizazz in unprecedented amounts.
I didn't even know you can swim faster in OoT
Thank you for the video. Learned some new stuff. I do wonder why Link swims faster when you mash B?
I hate to be 'that guy', but Grog doesn't have just a mohawk in Majora's Mask. He's got that mohawk shaped into sick-ass liberty spikes.
Now I wonder if those changes that aren't about characters/setting were later also implemented in OoT 3D. Like e.g. arrows affecting the water or the roll attack breaking pots.
Link's boots are slightly different. And the bottle in-game actually looks like a bottle in Majoras Mask compared to being blue and pointy in Oot
I just binged all the Zelda videos and then this comes out. Chef's kiss
The bomb one confuses me. Skulltulla defense changing and breaking grass with rolling, those are practical gameplay choices. The bombs? It's a small detail that probably no one would ever notice. Definitely nice, but this game had a ridiculously short development cycle and that's what they spent their time on instead of giving more NPC's their own schedule? Granted, it was probably very easy to implement, but I question why they bothered to do so in the first place with how much work there was to be done to make the game in less than a year.
Awesome video! The debug camera makes these extra enjoyable! I wanted to point out a small and maybe not so remarkable detail for ocarina of time. When link is talking to an NPC, he will continue facing the head of whoever he is talking to. This is best demonstrated by talking to gaebora kaepora on top of death mountain when he offers to take you back to kakariko village. If you position link right under him and talk to him, link will spin around to face his head whenever he cranes his neck as he usually does. This might be possible to demonstrate in other instances as well.
A very interesting topic!
I never realized most of these because I always assumed that since the two games use the same assets does so would be everything else. Like, automatically would be the same. 😅
1:45 wait WHAT? How have I never done that? especially since you have that period at the start where.. you'd think…
This is a cool episode. I especially like how much Nintendo upgraded interactions with water for Majora's Mask.
why does young link's model look better at 1:20 ?
Huh, I didn't even know that you could swim faster.
There's always more details to be found in both games, it seems!
The one about Grog was pretty obvious.
We get it, majoras mask is the superior game.
No rly, it is
Swimg faster just by 0.05 sec is prety useless for a big distance like this the. For a short is just be like 0.01🎉
majora is more creepy and realistic
In majora the camera likely doesn't move because of the real time system, often you need to wait and watch for something specific and they made sure the camera wouldn't fight you.
You can actually complete a heart container as Deku Link during the 1st 3 day cycle. You can obtain these 4 heart pieces in Clock Town as Deku Link within this cycle.
The 1st one can be obtained on the Clock Tower deck after trading the Moon’s Tear.
The 2nd one can be obtained by winning the postman’s game on nights 1 and 2.
The 3rd one can be obtained by trading the title deed at the inn after midnight.
The 4th one can be obtained by winning the Deku Playground game 3 times each day.
