Beyond and hello! This week’s episode of IGN’s PlayStation podcast covers the controversial reports that 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn could in fact be receiving the remaster, or even remake, treatment. So ride along with Mark Medina, Alex Stedman, and Matt Kim as we go over these rumors and try to make sense of it all. Is it corporate greed? Or is it movie and TV show related? You’ll have to watch to find out! (but…yes, probably to both)
Also discussed was the surprise news of a brand new Witcher trilogy in the works, as well as the followup to Cyberpunk 2077.

If it's any more than a $10 PS5 upgrade, it's a straight up money grab.
dude it can just be a proper update/remaster for ps5 owners just like gears 5 got a series x version for example, why are people acting like it's something new and so bad all of a sudden, if u personally don't need it simply don't buy tf, first we complain about cross gen and not getting native next gen versions, now that they are doing it even for last gen games which still millions if not 100s of millions haven't played, people come to complain smh, what's next cry about the dead space remake or pc console ports getting graphical updates, come on now, this is a good thing more options and choices, better than just BC
It would be really interesting to watch the Horizon TV show and find out its all about Ted Faro starting Faro Automated Solutions (FAS). Or some other Lore offshoot
Salazar: Meester Kennedy, would you like IGN Plus?
Leon: No thanks, bro!
Agreed.
Am I the only one who liked The Last of Us Remake? (i agree the price is preposterous but the game itself is truly a thing of beauty on PS5 with a high end display). I realize the HZD is going to be a remaster and not a full on remake like TLOU, but I don't see anything wrong with that seeing as a lot of ps4 games ,even the ones enhanced for ps5, definitely show their age to at least a small extent.
Ghost of Tsushima on the way directed by John Wick director and stuntman Chad Stahelski…I am also expecting a remake sometime in the future alongside GoT 2..
It absolutely does not. It actually really pisses me off hearing that they're making one. I blame every one of you that bought the also completely unnecessary TLOU Part 1.
Yeah, when I get the online criticisms surrounding what the Switch is capable of out of my head, I am able to appreciate what the machine is doing, while I’m playing it. What are considered the fuzziest experiences on the Switch are rather some of the most visually arresting, thinking of both Wolfenstein games (IMO). These two Bethesda first-person-shooters expertly gets down movement, lighting and especially their very realistic and delicious pyrotechnics, on the Switch! These games are amazing conversions!
Also this dissonance surrounding the perceptions we get from internet talking heads vs an always ever evolving reality surrounding releases has everything to do with the fact that most outlets online (not all) rarely, if ever, catch up on patches. Each review is basically a hot-take since there is no follow up, post update, to see how the game has progressed. I found myself apologizing for upcoming visuals in a game (based on these internet hot-takes alone) to guests, which turned out to be far better than expected! I was apologizing for nothing, because I listened to the wrong source… I was both embarrassed and impressed!
Great Stuff, as always! Beyond!
I think Sony is onto something. Recycling old scrap into profit. Next week big announcement will be a remaster of TLOU remake.
Mark, you did a great job hosting. Love the jolly vibes you bring. Hope to see you as a frequent guest still on Game Scoop and Beyond!
We need Forbidden West on Steam.
The money left on the table by Sony with regards to one remake and one only, Bloodborne, is a crime!
Sony Re-mastering Horizon Zero Dawn, or whatever you want to call it, who really fucking cares? I love that game. and no one NEEDS to buy it again. Guys, It's not like it's insulin. Focus your anger on more pressing real issues. Thanks.
Meanwhile Bloodborne: wait what, y'all getting a remake!?
remake whatever you want, sony. i'm not buying.
Go see the movie or show / get a costum skin ?
First season of Horizon Zero Dawn is all about Elizbet and the last couple of episodes will be the incident happening and the final scene of the last episode is the mention of Aloy. I'd love it. They just can't be lazy like their shot for shot bullshit they're doing with TLoU.
Alex Stedman: No one knows what Twisted Metal even is.
Gamers over 20 years old: Ouch.
Michael J Fox made Teen Wolf before BTTF. He was working full time on the show Family Ties. Instead of sleeping, he would be filming in one of the best films of all time at night.
This is what this podcast has become lately . Talk about unnecessary bs and talk about actual playstation news. Why don’t you guys talk about horizon multiplayer game with monster hunter style gameplay that also leaked along with remaster or Hermen Hulst interview that went recently with details on pc and console games of Ps first party or the list of first party mp games that got leaked in the same horizon leak.
I don’t mind you guys talking about shows and stuff as a segway but at the very least cover full Playstation news not talk only negative things that happened on PS side.
Why did they not plan MP for the new game? They are just trying to find reasons to justify a $70 cash grab.
If this is true, who in their right minds at sony thinks this is a good idea? Aside from the facial animations and slightly increased graphical fidelity, both zero dawn and forbidden west are very similar. The sequal is not an overhaul by any stretch of the imagination. This will be a complete waste of time and resources.
Sony is really getting away from the roots of what makes it great. Now it’s just chasing Microsoft’s moves. Pc games, online live service, game pass but worse, and mobile. Sigh…..
Marc! Noooo! Losing Dornbush was hard enough and now you drop this bomb!? This news hurts man. And where’s Jada? I need her cool shirts in my life
They want new players to pay $70 for the remake and not $20-$15 for the old one. Simple. Typical greedy Playstation.
Well. Mark's era was very short lived. But he was my favourite host in my ten years of listening.
Having a Ghost of Tsushima 2 teaser trailer at the end of the movie would be a genius idea
The only reason why I'd want a remake is for the facial animations. Games like TLOU2 and Forbidden West have spoiled me as far as character facial animations are concerned. I can't get over the "dead" eyes of Ubisoft games.
All my favorite hosts are leaving!! I will give the new cast a try .
What, are they gonna remake Returnal now? Ratchet and Clank? TLoU pt 2??
You mention Paweł Sasko being great. In my option he was hugely responsible for my disappointment in Cyberpunk 2077. You always take marketing with a pinch of salt. But when the lead quest designer is hugely enthusiastic and is claiming amazing levels of choice and consequence in the quests. You tend to believe him and expect that in the final game. Especially when previous games from the studio have you make such difficult decisions that you have to stop playing to think them over. So it was a massive shock to play Cyberpunk 2077 and find minimal choice and consequence. WAY LESS than the previous Witcher games. And the main quest is so linear with you being forced to work with every faction regardless of your back story/faction, it makes no sense. The main story has excellent writing and I enjoyed it, but Pawel was totally misleading. I enjoyed the game but was disappointed. It was much more like a good, linear action than a "game of the year" quality RPG game like Witcher 2 and Witcher 3. So with his infectious enthusiasm I think Pawel did more harm than good by incorrectly promising a fantastic RPG full of choice and consequence.
